Chapter 247: Chapter 231: Spirit Wind Python (2)
But what puzzled Yu Changsheng was why this person, out of all the many Inner Sect Disciples, had noticed him right away.
Never mind that the man had barely shown his face in the sect for years. Yu Changsheng himself had only just entered the Inner Sect and was hardly famous. In fact, there were countless disciples with stronger cultivation than him. So why was he receiving so much attention?
’Is it really because of Mo Pengchen, as he said? Or is it something else...’
Yu Changsheng fell into thought. A moment later, he had his answer.
"Don’t mention it, Junior Brother. Since you are Elder Wei’s disciple, this is only natural," Zhang Tianwen said. As he mentioned Elder Wei, his eyes flickered with a hint of emotion.
"In a way, you could say I’m a Registered Disciple of Elder Wei myself. I was fortunate enough to receive some of his guidance back in the day, so there’s no need for such formalities between us."
Zhang Tianwen kept the smile on his face as he spoke lightly.
"For Elder Wei to think so highly of you, you must be extraordinary. I’m looking forward to seeing you give it your all in this competition."
Zhang Tianwen had interacted with Elder Wei more than most, so he knew better than anyone how formidable the man was. That was why he paid so much attention to Yu Changsheng.
The realization dawned on Yu Changsheng. Understanding, he gave a wry smile and clasped his hands in a salute. "So that’s the reason. I will do my best."
As for this competition, Yu Changsheng couldn’t say he had absolute confidence.
But then again, he had easily slain Tang He, who was at the Foundation Establishment Fifth Layer. His own strength had grown by leaps and bounds since then. Aside from a few select individuals, Yu Changsheng was confident he could defeat anyone else.
So, in response to Zhang Tianwen’s words, Yu Changsheng didn’t object. He just nodded and said, "I’ll do my best, but in the end, it’ll all come down to you, Senior Brother Zhang."
"Good." Zhang Tianwen laughed. After offering a few more words of encouragement, he glanced at Li Minghan standing beside Yu Changsheng, gave him a small nod, and then turned to leave.
Watching Zhang Tianwen’s retreating figure, Yu Changsheng chuckled and shook his head thoughtfully. ’So he knows Master.’
Li Minghan swallowed hard, his eyes filled with admiration as he watched Zhang Tianwen’s back. With a soft sigh, he turned to Yu Changsheng and laughed. "Even Senior Brother Zhang thinks so highly of you, Changsheng! It’s true what they say: a diamond in the rough will always shine."
Yu Changsheng shook his head and glanced at Li Minghan. He opened his mouth, intending to ask about the Red-scaled Pangolin, but stopped himself and swallowed the words.
’Forget it. He’ll have to reveal that Dragon Scale Pangolin during the competition anyway. I’ll just wait and see.’
With this thought in mind, Yu Changsheng kept a placid expression. He patted Li Minghan’s shoulder and said earnestly, "Senior Brother Zhang is just overestimating me. This competition will really depend on you, Senior Brother Li."
"Our match is tomorrow. Don’t let your guard down and mess up. Go back and get yourself in the right headspace."
Li Minghan smiled faintly, a confident look spreading across his face. He grinned. "Don’t worry. I may not fight often, but I’ve got the fundamental strength."
After a moment of thought, Li Minghan continued, "Aside from Yang Chengxu, the others shouldn’t be a problem."
"Is that so?" Yu Changsheng said, taken aback. He looked at the confident Li Minghan in surprise and chuckled. "Alright, then I’ll be waiting for your good news, Senior Brother Li."
Li Minghan nodded and thumped his chest. He was already quite strong, but now he had a Dragon Scale Pangolin with the Red Mountain Spirit Dragon Bloodline. His confidence was at an all-time high, and his voice was brimming with self-assurance.
「A day passed in a flash.」
The next day, Flat-top Square was once again a sea of people.
To Yu Changsheng’s slight surprise, the competition opened with Li Minghan’s match.
"Match seventeen! Li Minghan versus Wang Chengen!"
As the announcement from the judges’ platform faded, a young man from the Spirit Dragon Sect walked out. He had an average appearance and seemed somewhat timid in his movements.
"Looks like my luck is good. It’s my turn as soon as I get here. This is a good chance to grab the spotlight."
Li Minghan chuckled and waved it off. After nodding to Yu Changsheng, he leaped onto the stage. He politely clasped his hands at his opponent and said in a mild tone:
"Li Minghan of the Wanxiang Sect. I look forward to a good match."
Wang Chengen paused, then mirrored Li Minghan’s gesture, clasping his own hands in return. "Wang Chengen of the Spirit Dragon Sect. Please go easy on me."
As they spoke, both men waved their hands, and their respective Spirit Beasts materialized.
On Li Minghan’s side was a Spirit Wind Python. Its body was entirely cyan, with a slender neck and a large head marked with ribbon-like patterns. It was about eighty feet long and had no horns, only a slight, lumpy protrusion on its forehead. Overall, it resembled a massive snake. As its forked red tongue flickered in and out, its pale red eyes glinted with a cold, indifferent light.
As it appeared, a faint pressure radiated outward, and the fluctuations of its Tier Two Fourth Layer cultivation were unmistakable.
’A Spirit Wind Python? Not bad at all,’ Yu Changsheng thought, nodding to himself as he watched Li Minghan’s Spirit Beast. ’The fact that it’s a draconic serpent says it all.’
It wasn’t just Yu Changsheng; even the disciples who didn’t know Li Minghan well were surprised.
"Li Minghan’s Spirit Beast is impressive! It has so much potential. Of all the Spirit Beasts we’ve seen so far, his Spirit Wind Python is probably the best, right?"
Hearing the murmurs from the crowd, Li Minghan couldn’t help but let a small smile touch his lips.
He had pulled countless strings to acquire this Spirit Wind Python, and he was extremely satisfied with it.
As the Young Tower Master of the Ten Thousand Beasts Tower—even if it was just a branch—the resources at his command were beyond what an ordinary person could imagine. Consequently, he had extremely strict standards for his own Spirit Beasts.
He wouldn’t deign to contract with a common beast; only a rare species like the Spirit Wind Python was worthy of his consideration.
Among the Spirit Dragon Sect disciples, someone’s eyes narrowed as they stared at Li Minghan and whispered intently:
"Legend says that a draconic serpent takes five hundred years to become a flood dragon, a flood dragon takes a thousand years to become a true dragon, a true dragon becomes a horned dragon in another five hundred years, and finally a winged dragon after a thousand more. Although this man’s Spirit Wind Python isn’t pure-blooded and could never become a legendary winged dragon, it’s still incredibly impressive."
"Draconic serpents are typically water-attribute Spirit Beasts, but his is a variant. While its bloodline purity is lower, it has gained wind-attribute attacks. It looks like Wang Chengen is up against a tough opponent this time."
The disciples of the Spirit Dragon Sect had a natural affinity for draconic Spirit Beasts. Even though their sect possessed few such creatures—and the ones they did have were of mixed bloodlines—it didn’t stop them from being far more knowledgeable on the subject than the average person.
And just as they predicted, the appearance of the Spirit Wind Python made Wang Chengen, Li Minghan’s opponent, visibly nervous. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the two Spirit Beasts by his side and took a deep breath.
Both of his Spirit Beasts were Four-winged Flying Lizards, and the auras they emitted were identical—both at the Tier Two Third Layer.
The Four-winged Flying Lizard was, as its name suggested, simply a lizard with four wings. In terms of appearance alone, it was far less impressive than the Spirit Wind Python.
On top of that, Wang Chengen’s own cultivation was no match for Li Minghan’s.
"Two of the same Spirit Beast? An interesting choice."
"It’s not just their appearance; even their auras are nearly identical. Don’t tell me these two Four-winged Flying Lizards are siblings?"
Li Minghan raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued as he looked at the two nearly identical Four-winged Flying Lizards beside Wang Chengen.
Generally, very few Beast Masters chose to form a Contract with two of the same Spirit Beast, as it made their attack patterns too one-dimensional.
The last person he knew who’d done so was Sun Sihan.
Wang Chengen remained silent, his lips pressed together. He exhaled, then shot a look at his two Spirit Beasts. The pair of Four-winged Flying Lizards understood instantly. With a powerful flap of their wings, a fierce gale erupted as the two beasts flew at the Spirit Wind Python from the left and right.
Wang Chengen naturally had his reasons for choosing to contract two Four-winged Flying Lizards.
In truth, the two Four-winged Flying Lizards weren’t just identical in appearance—they were twins. The synergy between them was so perfect that their combined power was far greater than the sum of their parts. This was the main reason behind Wang Chengen’s choice.
