Chapter 298: Chapter 257: Breaking Through the Dome
A violent crimson light flickered over the Colorful Star Deer. It let out a soft cry as its Cultivation fluctuations surged. Already at its breakthrough point, its Cultivation level advanced as expected and continued to climb.
[One Fog Beast Origin consumed. Successfully fed to the Colorful Star Deer. 50,000 Essence Points acquired!]
[The Colorful Star Deer has advanced to the Tier Two Fourth Layer. 10,000 Essence Points acquired!]
The two consecutive notifications brought a look of delight to Yu Changsheng’s face. Meanwhile, the Colorful Star Deer’s aura surged again until it seemed to hit a limit, at which point the Fog Beast Origin was completely depleted.
"Peak of Second Rank Four..." Yu Changsheng was taken aback. "As expected of the Vajra Celestial Ape’s Origin. It nearly broke through directly to the Tier Two Fifth Layer."
Yu Changsheng mused, inwardly astounded.
’It seems that if I capture two more ordinary tamed beasts for it, the Colorful Star Deer will be able to break through again.’
A brilliant smile on his face, Yu Changsheng rubbed the Colorful Star Deer’s head while also comforting his other tamed beasts.
"Don’t worry. Your turn will come."
With the death of the Vajra Celestial Ape, the vast white fog began to thin and dissipate. Yu Changsheng scanned the fog one last time. After confirming there were no more Fog Beasts, he left the area with a touch of regret.
He activated the Ten Thousand Spirits Technique again, but this time, he found no pockets of white fog, even at the technique’s maximum range. He did, however, spot a few other people, but since he didn’t recognize them, he didn’t bother making contact.
Left with no other option, Yu Changsheng picked a random direction and flew off at full speed. Once he reached the edge of his Ten Thousand Spirits Technique’s range, he would use it to scan the area again.
By repeating this process, he covered ground with incredible speed. In just half a day, he had already surveyed a vast expanse of territory.
「Before long, night fell...」
Within the Secret Realm, it was never truly bright during the day nor completely dark at night. Even as dusk settled, the crimson sky simply grew more somber. The light was blood-red, and the faint phantom of a blood moon hung in the empty sky.
Inside a hastily carved-out cave, Yu Changsheng sat cross-legged in meditation, his breathing deep and even.
’It’s been nearly a day. It seems that at night, the creatures in this Secret Realm actually become more active.’
Yu Changsheng’s mind raced as he activated his Ten Thousand Spirits Technique. His vast Divine Sense spread out like a wave of spiritual energy, extending through blades of grass, great trees, soaring birds, and tiny ladybugs...
All of these became his eyes, feeding a deluge of information into his mind, which he sorted through one piece at a time.
’I wonder... what lies above the sky of this Secret Realm?’
Yu Changsheng considered this, and a thought suddenly struck him. He looked up at the crimson heavens, his eyes filled with curiosity.
He had tried before and found that, at a certain altitude, a flight-restricting Law prevented Cultivators from rising any higher.
’But... it seems the native creatures of this Secret Realm aren’t affected by its Restrictions.’
An idea sparked in Yu Changsheng’s mind.
’Spirit Control!’
He then focused more of his spiritual energy, attaching it to a sharp-beaked crane flying past. The crane’s wings shuddered, and a flicker of intelligence appeared in its murky eyes. With his spirit now attached, Yu Changsheng controlled the crane, making it give a powerful flap of its wings. Its body streamlined, and it shot upward toward the heavens.
’The Ten Thousand Spirits Technique really is incredible. Its support and amplification effects are undeniable. It’s just a shame that Spirit Control only works on beasts without Spiritual Wisdom, and even then, it has many limitations...’
’Even at my current Cultivation, using it is a strain. If my Cultivation were to reach a profound level, could I control all things with a single thought...?’
As Yu Changsheng’s thoughts wandered, the crane continued to fly higher. Gradually, the mountains below shrank to specks, and the ground stretched out into a vast panorama. A violent wind howled past. The scenery receded, until all that remained in his field of vision was the gloomy crimson sky, a few wisps of clouds, and the blood moon, which grew larger and larger.
HUMMM...
Upon reaching some kind of limit, the sharp-beaked crane’s entire body shuddered. A look of instinctual pain filled its eyes, and a tearing sensation was simultaneously transmitted to Yu Changsheng’s Perception.
’Hm? Have we reached the ceiling?’
Yu Changsheng’s brow furrowed, his own face showing a hint of pain. The crane he was controlling gave another mighty flap of its wings. With a sound that tore through the air, it shot upward once more in a final, desperate burst!
CRACK... CRACKLE...
He faintly heard a sound like shattering glass. The spatial barrier faltered for a second. In that instant, the crane became a streak of light, a shocking rainbow that burst through the obstruction and continued its ascent!
The world spun! The surrounding light abruptly dimmed. The blood moon was gone, as was the somber sky. Yu Changsheng’s spiritual link to the crane suddenly grew faint and unstable, as if stretched thin by the immense distance.
’What is this...’
Through the crane’s eyes, Yu Changsheng took a deep breath. It looked up, and its vision was filled with innumerable, brilliant stars. The world around it was pitch black, save for the starlight that flowed like a silent, silvery river. Below, clouds and mist swirled, revealing the landscape of the Secret Realm in its entirety.
Not far away, white mist billowed around an impossibly vast mountain peak that stabbed straight into the starry expanse, its form flickering in and out of view amidst the clouds!
’No, that’s not a mountain... it’s a Spirit Beast?!’
A look of pure shock crossed Yu Changsheng’s face. The Gang Wind howled, tearing at the very fabric of space and peeling back a corner of the concealing white mist to reveal... a limb, as vast as a mountain range.
The limb was a mottled, dark-yellowish cyan, covered in deep wrinkles, and it radiated a faint Black Qi. Mysterious, ancient runes were etched across its surface, from which a boundless power erupted.
A terrifying pressure leaked out. Wisps of white fog drifted down, hanging beneath the vault of the heavens. Countless strands of Law had transformed into Lock Chains, wrapping layer upon layer around this single exposed limb. The Lock Chains pierced into the void, leading to unknown depths, and from them rushed the lament of untold ages and an ancient aura.
