I Tame Beasts by Feeding

Chapter 299 - 257: Breaking Through the Dome, Part 2

Chapter 299: Chapter 257: Breaking Through the Dome, Part 2

A dense Death Qi swirled about as the giant beast lay shrouded in white fog, making it impossible for Yu Changsheng to see it clearly. The creature, in turn, seemed to have discovered Yu Changsheng’s presence. In that instant, a bestial cry erupted, filled with rage. Though it seemed to lack some force, it still possessed an earth-shattering might.

"HISSS...!"

The bestial cry was reptilian, like that of a tortoise or a snake, yet it also possessed a sublime, effortless quality, as if it contained the very essence of the Dao. In its wake, lotuses bloomed from the void. Yu Changsheng instantly fell into a daze, his mind went blank, and his Cultivation showed signs of running rampant.

Under the force of that cry, the sharp-beaked crane he had been observing through shattered without warning. It was as if it had been scrubbed from a drawing with an eraser, vanishing without a trace.

The images Yu Changsheng was perceiving cut off abruptly.

"Pfft—!"

Back in the cave, Yu Changsheng’s consciousness returned. He violently spat out a mouthful of crimson blood, his chest heaving as he gasped for breath.

The wisp of his True Spirit that had been attached to the sharp-beaked crane shattered, and the resulting backlash left his aura listless and in disarray.

’What kind of Spirit Beast was that...’

After a long moment, he managed to calm himself slightly. Yu Changsheng swallowed two Elixirs, and as some color returned to his cheeks, he sank into deep thought.

’That bestial cry...’

Yu Changsheng frowned, sinking into contemplation.

’That bestial cry... I feel like I’ve heard it somewhere before, but...’

He hadn’t been able to see the giant beast’s appearance clearly, but its cry held a sliver of familiarity.

And yet, he was certain he had never seen this giant beast before.

’Besides, why did that giant beast harbor such immense malice? It felt like rage. If it hadn’t been for that last moment...’

Yu Changsheng was puzzled, but he also had a growing suspicion.

At the critical moment, he thought he had faintly heard someone give a soft cry of surprise. Immediately after, an immense force had shielded him from the beast’s assault and sent his consciousness back...

Otherwise, he feared he wouldn’t have gotten away with simply coughing up some blood.

’Forget it. This Secret Realm is full of strange things. If I can’t figure it out, there’s no point dwelling on it. For now, it has nothing to do with me anyway.’

After a long moment, Yu Changsheng let out a soft breath, shaking his head to put the matter aside. After circulating his energy for a short while, he once again sent his Ten Thousand Spirits Technique spreading outward.

A gentle breeze stirred, the phantom lotuses faded from the mountains, and his consciousness spread throughout the Secret Realm’s world, carried away on the wind...

"Huh...?"

Yu Changsheng murmured in surprise. A look of shock and doubt flashed across his face, the light in his eyes flickering.

"A sea of white fog this vast... Just how many beasts must be inside."

Yu Changsheng took a deep breath. Within his Perception, a heaven-blotting expanse of white fog was roiling toward him. Its momentum was immense, like a great tide, with an awe-inspiring presence.

The fog was incredibly vast, with no end in sight. As far as the eye could see, it seemed to have replaced the sky and the earth; there was nothing but an endless sea of white. Everything else was hidden within, impossible to discern.

Yu Changsheng could only make a rough estimate that the white fog likely stretched for over a thousand miles—a staggering distance. From within it, muffled thunder rumbled.

What was even more peculiar was that, unlike the fog Yu Changsheng had previously encountered, this sea of white was moving! It swept across the land in all directions, carrying with it an air of tyranny and annihilation.

Without hesitation, once he had pinpointed its direction, Yu Changsheng immediately set off, transforming into a streak of light as he sped toward it.

’That sea of white fog must be the core of this Secret Realm,’ he thought. ’And it’s where my great opportunity on this trip lies!’

As Yu Changsheng sped along, his mind raced. About fifteen minutes later, the edge of the white fog appeared on the horizon. The churning mist looked like a colossal beast with a gaping, fanged maw, rushing forward to devour him.

Without any more hesitation, a fiery glint in his eyes, Yu Changsheng plunged headfirst into the fog, his guard still up.

"HUMMMMM..."

A low humming filled his ears. As Yu Changsheng plunged in, the white fog remained completely unaffected, swallowing him whole before continuing its powerful surge to the east.

"This place... It should be enough for my beasts to finally break through!"

Inside the fog, it was so dense he could barely see his hand in front of his face. Yu Changsheng advanced slowly and cautiously. His Divine Sense was suppressed by nearly ninety percent, allowing him to perceive only a small area around him.

With a wave of his sleeve, three streaks of light materialized beside him, transforming into the Red Refining Snake, the Colorful Star Deer, and the Golden-Winged Eagle. The man and his three beasts each took one of the four cardinal directions and began to scout the area cautiously.

"Golden-Winged Eagle, use Gale!"

Yu Changsheng frowned. His Divine Sense was comparable to that of a Golden Core cultivator, which usually allowed him to perceive everything with perfect clarity. This feeling of being completely blind was unsettling.

And so, he gave the command. The Golden-Winged Eagle nodded and beat its massive wings. A violent gale swept out, blowing the thick fog away. However, the moment it was cleared, more fog poured in from all directions, remaining just as dense.

"It seems this fog has some unusual properties," Yu Changsheng muttered.

Resigned, Yu Changsheng didn’t dwell on it. He remained on high alert as he slowly advanced toward the center of the fog bank.

The white fog roiled, and mournful cries echoed through it from time to time. Blurry phantoms darted within, stirring the mist, while pairs of savage eyes occasionally flashed in the gloom, greedily watching the intruder.

"ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!!"

WHOOSH!

The next instant, the fog surged, and three Red Flame Lions wreathed in flickering white Flame shot out from the side, pouncing toward Yu Changsheng with gaping jaws.

Yu Changsheng’s figure flickered, dodging the first attacking Red Flame Lion. At the same time, he tapped his foot lightly and leaped into the air. A Heaven-reaching aura erupted from him as he focused his qi and blood into his fist and brought it crashing down on the second lion’s head!

The Colorful Star Deer grew euphoric and lightly stamped its front hoof. It activated Soul Stepping, instantly unleashing a Divine Soul Shock on the three Red Flame Lions and restricting their movements.

"CRACK! CRACKLE...!"

As Yu Changsheng’s fist came down, there was no surprise. A sickening crack echoed from the Red Flame Lion’s head, and it slumped limply to the side.

Yu Changsheng’s expression remained calm. He unfurled his fist into a grip and fiercely seized the beast’s lolling head, unleashing immense force through his fingers.

"BOOM!"

The Red Flame Lion didn’t even have time to cry out before its head exploded, dissolving into mist. Its body was erased along with it, leaving behind only a crimson mass.

After stowing away the Fog Beast Origin, Yu Changsheng turned to face the other two charging Red Flame Lions, his eyes still serene. He flipped through the air, landing lightly but firmly on the broad back of one of the lions. Then he threw a punch!

"ROAR!!"

The Red Flame Lion roared, thrashing its body in an attempt to throw Yu Changsheng off. But seemingly out of nowhere, tendrils of vines spread out from the void, tightly binding its body and limbs and restricting its movement.

The Red Flame Lion was instantly immobilized.

"BOOM!!"

"Thousand Mountains Fist!"

Yu Changsheng softly uttered the three words. His fist was wreathed in an earthen glow as he brought it smashing down...

As expected, the Red Flame Lion only had time for a piteous howl before its head instantly exploded. Its body collapsed into white fog, leaving only a Fog Beast Origin behind.

Meanwhile, the Red Refining Snake had also finished its fight. Its massive body leaped and coiled tightly around the last Red Flame Lion. It was completely unfazed by the white Flame covering the lion’s body, which couldn’t scorch it in the slightest.

The snake’s coils constricted. A series of cracks, like the sound of popping beans, echoed as bones shattered. The Red Flame Lion struggled, but in the face of such absolute power, its resistance was futile. Unsurprisingly, its body soon collapsed and vanished.

In a mere moment, all three of the attacking Red Flame Lion Fog Beasts had been eliminated.

After collecting the three Fog Beast Origins, Yu Changsheng thought for a moment, then glanced at the eager Colorful Star Deer and gave all of them to it.

The Colorful Star Deer let out a triumphant cry and swallowed the three drops of Fog Beast Origin in a single gulp. Instantly, a brilliant crimson light erupted from it. Its Cultivation, which had long been at a bottleneck, surged forward and broke through with a deafening boom.

[Three units of Fog Beast Origin consumed. Successfully fed to the Colorful Star Deer! Acquired 25,000 Essence Points!]
