Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

Vival's footsteps echoed. He walked casually through the majestic throne room. Reddish orange afternoon light pierced through the carved wooden windows on the left side of the room. Long purple banners with golden dragon emblems hung from the ceiling. The stone floor beneath his feet was wet. Piles of horned soldier corpses lay scattered in pools of fresh blood.

"Uni is not here," Vival muttered.

He stepped slowly, avoiding the puddles of blood and scattered bodies, heading toward the giant wooden chair at the end of the room.

"I knew something was wrong."

Srak!

Illfa forcefully pulled her sword from the chest of a soldier lying on the floor. Blood spurted slowly. She wiped the soldier's eyelids until they were tightly closed using her left hand. "Sleep well, soldier," Illfa said flatly. The red haired woman stood upright, sweeping her gaze across every corner of the room. "Um."

"This might sound stupid. But should we clean all this up later?" Illfa asked.

Vival turned to look at her in confusion. "Why?"

"We will be found out." Illfa looked down at the blood on the tips of her shoes. "They will investigate who the culprit is. We will be hunted by the dragon clan."

Vival raised his right hand. He slowly rubbed the surface of his black mask. "Oh, yes," Vival replied in a sarcastic tone. "I did not think about that. I did not think about that at all."

Vival pointed right at Illfa's face. "Why should I care, I am wearing a mask. You are the one who is not safe because you are not wearing a mask."

Illfa's eyes widened. Her mouth opened slightly. "Eh? Me?"

Illfa looked around in panic to the right and left, looking at the faces of the corpses around her. "Shit. Shit!" she cursed while holding her head.

Vival took a deep breath and exhaled roughly. His shoulders dropped. "Damn it, are you an idiot?" Vival snapped loudly.

"Is that important right now? Did Prince Villavia give you a pair of horns and a fake identity just so you could be an idiot?"

Illfa frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Shit," Vival cursed quietly. He raised his hand, telling Illfa to stop talking. "Shut your mouth. Shut your mouth right now."

Vival pointed toward the empty throne chair. "We are facing a very urgent problem. Uni is not here. Her elite troops are not here either."

Illfa walked slowly, staring at the purple banners above her head. "Maybe they were lured out toward the position where Amor is fighting?"

Vival tilted his head. "You think so?"

"I don't know," Illfa answered.

"That opinion makes sense," Vival said, nodding. "However, if that is true, then Prince Villavia and Prince Aldes' calculations completely missed the mark."

Vival shook his head again. "No. If that guess is correct, they would have sent a messenger dragon here to report the situation. Or maybe not."

Vival stood silently, staring at the stone floor. He thought through various sequences of possibilities in his head.

"Could they be stupid enough to advance to the front lines?" Vival muttered to himself. "Or..."

Vival fell silent again. He turned to look at Illfa. "They were not in this village from the very beginning?"

"Maybe?" Illfa replied hesitantly.

Vival shook his head quickly. "Let me think for a second."

Vival looked toward a spot on the stone floor that was clean from blood. He dropped his body, sitting cross legged on the floor. He held his forehead with his palm and fell completely silent.

"What are you doing?" asked Illfa.

"Shut your mouth. Shh!" Vival whispered sharply.

Vival compiled all the information in his head.

Aldes' plan was very clear. Amor and Mila were tasked with luring the enemy's main forces to the border. At the same time, Illfa and I were to kill the fifteen best soldiers and hold Uni in this palace until Leafa completed her ritual. But Uni is not here. Her elite troops have also disappeared.

Where did they go. To the front lines. Could they have gone there. If they are at the front lines, should I follow. Too risky.

Or are they hiding. Impossible. The dragon race never flees or hides. So where did they go. Why did they leave. Wait.

Vival tapped the surface of his mask with his index finger.

If they left this village, what about the fate of the ordinary citizens. Did Uni just abandon her people. Did Uni already know this village would be attacked. Did they leave before the attack happened.

Vival stopped tapping his finger.

If Uni and her main forces are not in this village, then the soul targets for Leafa's ritual will not be fulfilled. The ritual will be in vain. Were Aldes and Villavia mistaken. Is there a variable that went off track.

Shit. If my guess is correct, I must immediately send a messenger bird to them. No. I have to find out Uni's position first.

Vival stood up abruptly from the floor. He turned to look at Illfa, who was sitting casually on the edge of a wooden table.

"How long has it been since Leafa started preparing her ritual?" Vival asked quickly.

Illfa jolted in surprise. She straightened her body. "Eh? What?" Illfa thought for a moment. "About one or two hours ago."

"Damn it!" Vival shouted loudly. He pointed straight at the exit door. "Go to the civilian settlement right now! Check if there are still citizens there or if Uni is hiding there. Check everything!"

Illfa gripped her sword hilt tightly.

"I will search in other areas," Vival continued with a rushing tone. "Return to this room in fourteen minutes. If we do not find them, you must immediately go after Amor. Tell him that Uni is not in this village. I will go after Leafa!"

Vival raised his right hand, then snapped his fingers.

Click.

Vival's body vanished instantly from the room.

Illfa frowned, staring at the empty space where Vival had stood just before. "Shit," she cursed quietly.

Illfa spun her body around and dashed out through the door, leaving the blood soaked throne room behind.
