(Yuuta’s Unknown Past)
Yuuta stood in complete silence as the farewell ritual slowly reached its end.
Hundreds of elves moved together beneath the World Tree, their steps so graceful that words failed to describe them.
Every movement carried purpose. Every gesture blended perfectly with the ancient hymn echoing across Fallen Haven, making it feel less like a dance and more like a prayer offered to the world itself.
The ground began to glow.
The countless seeds the elves had planted only moments earlier burst with life, blooming into radiant flowers filled with pure mana. Their petals shimmered with green and golden light as they swayed gently to the rhythm of the Song of the Fallen.
Yuuta’s breathing unconsciously slowed.
He now understood why the melody had always felt familiar.
It wasn’t merely a song.
It had been written...
For those who were forced to leave everything behind.
For those who had been forgotten.
For those who wished to return home one day.
The Song of the Fallen.
The very song his lips had remembered even after his memories had abandoned him.
As the final verse echoed across Fallen Haven, the dancing gradually came to a stop.
One after another, every elf lowered their head toward the ancient tree.
Silence embraced the world.
The elder slowly stepped forward.
Current Yuuta watched every movement without blinking.
The towering elder raised both hands toward the sky.
Ancient mana gathered around him before flowing upward like thousands of glowing fireflies. The light twisted together, forming an enormous symbol high above the World Tree.
Yuuta stared in amazement.
He had never seen such a crest before.
It shone with brilliant gold and emerald green. At its center stood a magnificent World Tree, while beneath its branches was the graceful figure of a woman gently pressing her forehead against the ancient trunk, almost as though she were kissing it with boundless love and devotion.
The symbol remained suspended in the heavens for only a few seconds.
Then...
It dissolved into countless particles of light.
Although it disappeared, Yuuta somehow knew he would never forget it.
The image had already engraved itself deep within his heart.
As the light faded, the entire memory began changing.
The flowers slowly dissolved into glowing dust.
The elves became transparent one after another.
Even the endless branches of the World Tree began fading into mist.
The memory...
Was ending.
Current Yuuta looked around desperately, afraid that if this world vanished now, all the answers hidden within it would disappear forever.
Then he noticed himself.
Little Yuuta stood only a few steps away, happily clapping his hands with the innocent excitement of a child who believed he had just watched a wonderful performance. He laughed without understanding the true meaning of the farewell ceremony that had just unfolded before him.
"Elder!"
Little Yuuta shouted happily while running toward the towering figure.
"It was beautiful!"
"Yuuta liked it!"
The elder smiled warmly before lowering himself onto one knee. Without the slightest hesitation, the little boy climbed onto his shoulders and happily grabbed both of the elder’s magnificent antlers with tiny hands.
The elder laughed softly.
"Hold on tightly, little Yuuta."
"I am!"
The child giggled.
"I always do!"
The elder slowly rose to his feet. For several seconds, he quietly gazed toward the fading World Tree before speaking in a voice so gentle that it almost broke Yuuta’s heart.
"Come."
"It’s time for us to leave."
Little Yuuta tilted his head curiously.
"Leave?"
"Where are we going, Elder?"
The elder remained silent for a brief moment before answering.
"...Toward the beginning of your new life."
There was no longer sorrow in his voice.
Only quiet hope.
The ritual had been completed.
The ancient promise had been fulfilled.
For it was said that those who entrusted their farewell to the Song of the Fallen would one day return to the place where their story had truly begun.
Little Yuuta understood none of that.
Instead, he smiled brightly and tightened his little hands around the elder’s antlers.
"A new beginning?"
"Yuuta loves new things!"
The elder chuckled.
"I know you do."
Together, they slowly walked away beneath the fading branches of the World Tree.
Step by step, their figures dissolved into light until nothing remained but silence.
Current Yuuta stood alone.
His body refused to move.
His mind refused to think.
The memory had vanished before his eyes, but instead of answering his questions, it had only created countless new ones.
For the first time in his life...
Yuuta realized that the greatest thing stolen from him wasn’t merely his memories.
It was an entire life.
A family.
A homeland.
A beginning he had never even known existed.
Yuuta remained standing in complete silence.
Fallen Haven had vanished.
The majestic World Tree was gone. The sea of glowing flowers had disappeared. The cheerful laughter of his younger self, the gentle voice of the elder, and the beautiful hymn echoing beneath the branches had all faded into nothingness. In their place remained only an endless void, stretching beyond sight in every direction.
He stood alone.
His breathing gradually became heavier as his mind desperately tried to process everything he had just witnessed.
Every memory felt real.
Too real.
It wasn’t like watching a dream or an illusion.
It had felt as though he had truly been there, standing among those people, hearing their voices with his own ears.
"What..."
His lips trembled.
"...was all of that?"
The question echoed into the endless darkness before silence swallowed it whole.
Yuuta slowly lowered his gaze toward his transparent hands.
His fingers shook uncontrollably.
"They were real..."
"They had to be..."
His breathing became more uneven.
"Then who were they?"
"Who was that elder?"
"And... why do I know that song?"
His heart pounded violently against his chest.
The Song of the Fallen.
Every single word.
Every melody.
Every verse.
He hadn’t guessed it.
He hadn’t imagined it.
He knew it.
As though someone had patiently taught it to him long ago.
Yuuta clenched his trembling fists.
"No..."
"It doesn’t make sense."
"It can’t."
He looked down at his transparent body, fear slowly spreading through every part of him.
"...What am I?"
The words escaped his lips before he could stop them.
"If everything I saw was real..."
"If that child was truly me..."
"...then am I even human?"
His entire body trembled violently.
Questions flooded his mind one after another.
Why had he forgotten?
Who erased those memories?
Why would anyone steal an entire childhood?
And if everything had truly happened...
Then what exactly had they been trying to hide from him?
"I have to remember..."
He whispered the words like a desperate prayer.
"I have to know the truth."
He closed his eyes and forced himself to dig deeper into his memories.
Further.
Beyond the elder.
Beyond Fallen Haven.
Beyond the Song of the Fallen.
The instant he reached for those memories—
Agony exploded inside his head.
"AAAAAGHHHH!!"
Yuuta screamed.
It felt as though an invisible blade had split his mind in half. Every thought shattered into fragments while unbearable pain tore through his consciousness. He collapsed onto both knees, clutching his head with both hands as if trying to stop it from breaking apart.
The Song of the Fallen echoed endlessly inside his mind.
Again.
And again.
And again.
The melody that had once sounded gentle now felt like countless voices calling his name from somewhere impossibly far away.
The pain became too much.
Cracks spread through the empty world surrounding him.
The darkness fractured.
The ground beneath him shattered like broken glass.
Everything collapsed at once.
Yuuta remained kneeling, tears silently falling onto the endless void beneath him.
His shoulders trembled.
"...Who am I?"
His voice had become little more than a whisper.
"What..."
"...am I?"
He lowered his head.
"So many people..."
"So many memories..."
"And yet..."
"I don’t remember a single one of them."
His fists slowly tightened.
"...What is the truth?"
Silence answered him.
A deep...
Oppressive...
Silence.
Then...
Yuuta felt it.
Someone...
Was watching him.
The sensation slowly crawled across his skin, making every instinct inside him scream. He lifted his head, his breathing still uneven, and looked around the endless void.
Nothing.
Only darkness.
Then...
A voice.
Soft.
Gentle.
Almost nostalgic.
It drifted through the emptiness like a forgotten lullaby.
Yuuta slowly turned toward its source.
Far away...
A figure emerged from the darkness.
Step.
After step.
After step.
The silhouette walked calmly through the void, its entire body concealed beneath living shadows. Darkness clung to it like a cloak, refusing to reveal even the slightest detail.
Only two crimson eyes burned within the blackness.
Eyes that never looked away from Yuuta.
As the figure drew closer, its voice became clearer.
It was singing.
The same song.
The Song of the Fallen.
«Return to the roots from which you came.
Lay down your sorrow... lay down your name.
The wind shall carry what we cannot keep.
The ancient branches cradle your sleep.»
Yuuta’s breathing stopped.
His heart pounded against his chest.
"...That song..."
"It knows that song..."
The shadow finally stopped a few steps before him.
Neither of them spoke.
The silence between them felt older than time itself.
Then, slowly...
The shadow extended one hand toward Yuuta.
Its crimson eyes glowed gently within the endless darkness.
When it finally spoke, its voice sounded strangely familiar.
Not like the voice of a stranger.
But like someone Yuuta had been searching for his entire life.
"Come..."
"...Return to where you belong."
The outstretched hand never wavered.
"Take back..."
"...what has always been yours."
The crimson eyes softened.
Then the figure whispered one final sentence.
"...Come home, forgotten soul."
Yuuta’s trembling hand slowly rose on its own.
Not because he trusted the shadow...
But because, deep within his soul...
It felt like he had finally found someone who remembered him.
