Location:- Nightmare Dream
Place:- Temple Altar
Yuuta’s crimson eyes widened as the dust surrounding the ancient altar slowly settled, revealing the enormous figure standing on the other side.
For several seconds, his mind refused to properly understand what his eyes were seeing. Calling the thing before him a figure almost felt insulting.
It was a monster, the kind of horrifying creature Yuuta had only ever seen in movies, games, and fantasy books, except this time there was no screen separating him from it.
The creature stood nearly eleven meters tall, its enormous body covered with muscles so thick that even the slightest movement made them tighten beneath its skin.
Several octopus-like tentacles hung from its face, shifting slowly with each heavy breath it took, while both of its massive hands carried axes that looked far too large for any human to lift. Yet its appearance wasn’t the only thing terrifying Yuuta.
A strange death-like energy radiated continuously from its body, filling the entire altar with such suffocating pressure that Yuuta struggled to breathe normally.
Yuuta remained frozen as the monster watched him. His instincts screamed at him to run, yet there was nowhere to escape.
The ancient gate remained behind him while the enormous creature blocked everything ahead, leaving him trapped inside a place he didn’t even understand.
When the monster finally took a single step forward, the entire chamber trembled beneath its weight, sending tiny pieces of stone falling from the cracked ceiling.
Then something about its expression changed.
The tentacles covering its face slowly shifted, and although Yuuta couldn’t properly see the mouth hidden beneath them, he somehow knew exactly what had happened. The creature was smiling at him.
That realization sent an even colder chill through Yuuta’s body because, for some reason, the smile frightened him far more than the enormous axes resting within its hands.
"W-Who are you?" Yuuta asked, struggling to keep his trembling voice under control. He stared upward at the towering creature before swallowing nervously.
"No... what exactly are you?"
The monster didn’t answer his question immediately. Instead, its eyes slowly moved across Yuuta’s body before eventually settling upon his face.
The strange amusement within its gaze disappeared almost instantly as it noticed something. Its eyes widened slightly while it stared at Yuuta’s messy black hair, then shifted downward toward his crimson eyes as though those two features had suddenly become far more important than anything else.
"Black hair... red eyes?" the monster muttered as it leaned slightly closer, examining Yuuta’s face with far more attention than before.
The tentacles hanging across its mouth shifted slightly while something resembling disbelief appeared within its eyes.
For several seconds, it simply stared at him as though those two ordinary features had awakened a memory buried for countless years.
"Sons of Disaster...?"
Yuuta’s fear briefly gave way to confusion.
Until this moment, he had expected the enormous creature to behave like some mindless monster guarding an ancient dungeon, yet not only could it speak, it seemed to recognize something about him.
The strange name only made things worse.
Yuuta had never heard of the Sons of Disaster before, nor did he understand why his black hair and crimson eyes had caused the creature to mention them.
Wait... did this monster seriously just speak to me?
And what the hell is a Son of Disaster?
Before Yuuta could gather enough courage to ask, the monster continued studying him. Its gaze moved from his crimson eyes toward his hair before slowly traveling across the rest of his body, almost as though it were searching for another feature that would confirm whatever suspicion had entered its mind.
The longer the examination continued, the more uncomfortable Yuuta became, especially when the creature’s attention eventually returned to his eyes.
"What bloodline are you?"
Yuuta blinked several times, wondering if he had misunderstood the question.
Bloodline wasn’t exactly something people casually asked about on Earth, especially not while holding two axes large enough to cut him in half. He nervously glanced toward the weapons before returning his attention to the creature, carefully choosing his words because something told him giving the wrong answer might be a terrible idea.
"B-Bloodline?" Yuuta repeated, forcing an awkward smile despite the fear tightening his chest. "What exactly do you mean by that?"
The monster slowly lowered its enormous body into a half-squatting position, bringing its face somewhat closer to Yuuta’s level. Even after lowering itself, it remained terrifyingly large, and Yuuta immediately resisted the urge to step backward when those strange eyes came closer.
There was no obvious hostility within them yet. If anything, the creature appeared genuinely curious, which somehow made the situation even stranger.
"What species are you?"
Yuuta stared at it for a moment.
That question somehow confused him even more.
Species? What kind of question is that?
There weren’t exactly many possibilities as far as Yuuta was concerned.
He looked down at his hands almost instinctively before touching his face, wondering if something about him looked unusual enough for the monster to ask such a ridiculous question.
Despite everything he had recently discovered about his past, he still looked human, lived as a human, and as far as he knew had always been one.
"I’m human," Yuuta answered cautiously.
The change was immediate.
The curiosity within the monster’s eyes disappeared so completely that Yuuta initially wondered if he had imagined it.
Its enormous body became perfectly still, and the strange interest it had shown toward his crimson eyes vanished beneath an expression Yuuta couldn’t read.
There was no anger, no roar, and not even the slightest warning that something was about to happen.
Yuuta swallowed nervously.
"...What?"
The monster’s hand tightened around the handle of its axe.
Yuuta’s pupils contracted.
Before his mind could understand what that movement meant, the enormous creature swung.
The gigantic axe tore through the air with such terrifying force that the pressure alone ripped dust and fragments of stone from the floor.
Yuuta’s crimson eyes widened as the world around him seemed to slow down. He could see every crack running across the ancient blade, every mysterious symbol engraved into its metal, and even the air violently distorting around its edge as it rushed directly toward his body.
Yet Yuuta hadn’t moved.
His mind screamed at his legs to dodge, but the attack had happened so suddenly that his body hadn’t even processed the danger.
One moment they had been having an actual conversation, and in the next, an axe large enough to split him apart was already only a few feet away.
As the enormous blade filled his vision, Yuuta had no time to understand what had changed. He had answered one simple question truthfully, and somehow that answer had transformed the creature’s curiosity into immediate violence.
The gigantic axe rushing toward him looked less like a weapon and more like a vehicle being thrown directly at his body.
For one ridiculous second, his panicking mind compared its size to a car before every instinct inside him screamed at once.
What the fuck did I say wrong?!
Yuuta threw himself sideways with everything he had.
It wasn’t even a proper dodge.
His legs failed to find their balance beneath the sudden movement, causing him to practically dive toward the floor before rolling uncontrollably across the ancient stone.
At the same moment, the enormous axe passed through the space where he had been standing, its violent pressure striking him hard enough to send his body spinning even farther away.
Yuuta continued rolling until his back slammed against one of the massive altar pillars.
The impact sent a sharp pain through his spine and knocked whatever little air remained from his lungs.
His vision blurred instantly as the entire chamber seemed to spin around him, leaving him unable to tell whether the monster was approaching or whether he had somehow managed to create some distance.
For several seconds, Yuuta could only hear the violent pounding of his own heartbeat.
His mind slowly began returning.
Move.
That was the first coherent thought he managed to form.
He needed to get up.
He needed to run.
Yuuta desperately planted his left hand against the stone floor, intending to push himself back onto his feet, but his body didn’t rise. Confused, he tried again, putting more strength into the movement, only to nearly fall forward.
"Huh...?"
Yuuta looked down.
His breathing stopped.
There was no left hand pressing against the floor.
His arm ended before it.
For several seconds, Yuuta simply stared at the place where his hand should have been, unable to understand what his eyes were showing him.
Blood poured from the severed limb and ran down his arm before dripping heavily onto the ancient stone beneath him.
His mind had been so overwhelmed by the impact that it hadn’t even registered what had happened during his desperate dodge.
He hadn’t completely avoided the axe.
The edge had caught him.
The realization reached his mind at almost the exact same moment as the pain.
"AHHHHHHHHH! FUCKKKKKKK!"
Yuuta’s scream tore through the ancient temple as unimaginable agony exploded through his arm. He grabbed the injured limb with his remaining hand and curled forward, his entire body trembling violently.
This wasn’t the distant sensation of pain he expected from a nightmare.
It was real enough to overwhelm every thought inside his head, and that terrified him almost as much as losing the hand itself.
The monster slowly turned toward him.
Yuuta saw it move through his tear-filled vision and immediately forced himself back onto his feet. There was no time to understand the injury or question why the pain felt so real.
The eleven-foot creature had already started coming toward him, carrying both enormous axes as though they weighed nothing.
"No, no, no... fuck this!"
Yuuta turned and ran.
He didn’t care where he was going anymore. He simply sprinted through the ancient altar chamber while desperately holding his injured arm against his body. Blood continued dripping behind him with every step, yet fear forced his exhausted legs to keep moving. He could hear the creature pursuing him from behind, each heavy footstep shaking the stone beneath his feet.
Yuuta glanced over his shoulder and immediately regretted it.
The monster was fast.
Far too fast.
Its enormous body should have made it slow, yet the distance Yuuta had desperately created was disappearing within seconds. The creature wasn’t struggling to catch him either. Its movements were controlled, almost casual, making Yuuta realize something even more horrifying.
He’s playing with me.
Yuuta pushed himself harder.
The monster suddenly bent its legs.
Before Yuuta could understand what it was doing, the creature launched itself into the air with enough force to crack the floor beneath its feet. Its gigantic body passed over Yuuta before crashing down several meters ahead of him, the impact shaking the entire altar chamber.
"What the.....?!"
The shockwave caught Yuuta before he could stop.
His body was thrown backward like a rag doll, crashing violently into the raised middle section of the altar. Pain exploded through his back as he collapsed onto the stone, barely managing to keep himself conscious.
Yuuta tried to move again, but his body refused to cooperate.
Through his blurred vision, he saw the monster straighten itself.
One axe rested within each hand.
It slowly turned toward him before beginning to walk.
There was no urgency in its movements anymore. It didn’t need to hurry because both of them already understood the truth.
Yuuta couldn’t outrun it, couldn’t overpower it, and couldn’t even survive a single clean strike from those weapons.
Yuuta pressed his remaining hand against the altar and desperately tried to drag himself backward. His breathing became increasingly frantic as the enormous creature continued approaching, its shadow gradually swallowing his entire body.
Only now did Yuuta fully understand what was happening.
This wasn’t a battle.
The monster wasn’t even fighting him seriously.
It had been playing with him from the beginning.
The monster stopped directly above him, its enormous shadow swallowing Yuuta completely as both axes slowly rose into the air.
Yuuta’s crimson eyes followed the weapons upward, his entire body trembling so violently that his remaining hand slipped repeatedly against the blood-covered altar.
He desperately tried to push himself away, but there was nowhere left to go. His back was already against the stone, his left hand was gone, and the creature standing above him seemed almost pleased by the terror spreading across his face.
Then the monster swung.
Yuuta saw the axes coming.
He desperately twisted away.
He wasn’t fast enough.
The enormous blade tore through him with such overwhelming force that Yuuta didn’t even scream immediately.
His entire body jerked from the impact as his mind simply stopped working for several seconds. There was no thought, no understanding, and strangely, not even pain at first.
His crimson eyes remained wide open while his mouth trembled soundlessly, his brain refusing to accept what had just happened.
Then the pain reached him.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Yuuta’s scream exploded throughout the ancient temple.
His remaining hand clawed desperately against the stone while his entire body convulsed from the unbearable agony.
Tears instantly filled his eyes as he screamed until his throat burned, but even losing his voice couldn’t make him stop.
The pain was everywhere. It was so overwhelming that he couldn’t even understand which part of his body hurt anymore.
"AAAAAAHHHH! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! IT HURTS! AAAAAHHHHHH!"
Yuuta desperately looked down.
That was a mistake.
The axe had torn through his lower body, leaving an injury so horrifying that his mind immediately rejected what his eyes were seeing. Blood rapidly spread beneath him, soaking the ancient floor, while the damage was severe enough for Yuuta to understand one horrifying truth without needing any medical knowledge.
He should already be dead.
Yuuta’s pupils shook uncontrollably.
"No... no, no, no, no..."
His breathing became frantic.
"No...!"
He slapped his remaining hand against the floor and desperately tried to pull himself away.
"NO! NO! NO! FUCK! HELP ME!"
There was nobody to help him.
Yuuta screamed anyway.
"SOMEBODY HELP ME!"
His voice cracked as tears streamed down his face.
"PLEASE!"
He dragged himself forward with his remaining arm, his fingernails scraping violently against the stone as pure survival instinct took control of him.
He wasn’t thinking about dignity anymore. He wasn’t thinking about becoming stronger, discovering his past, or finding the mysterious shadow. His mind had been reduced to a single desperate command.
Get away.
Yuuta pulled himself forward again.
"AHHHH!"
Another movement sent unbearable pain through him.
He nearly collapsed, but terror forced his hand forward once more.
"Get away... get away... get away..."
His voice had become broken and desperate.
Behind him came another heavy footstep.
Yuuta froze.
His crimson eyes widened even further.
The monster was following him.
It wasn’t running.
It wasn’t attacking.
It was walking.
Slowly.
The creature dragged one enormous axe across the stone floor as it followed Yuuta’s desperate crawl. The horrible grinding sound echoed through the chamber while the monster maintained exactly enough distance to allow Yuuta to continue moving.
That was when Yuuta understood.
It was enjoying this.
"No..."
Yuuta shook his head violently.
"No, no, no... stay away!"
He dragged himself faster despite the agony ripping through his body.
"STAY AWAY FROM ME!"
The monster continued walking.
Yuuta’s terror became uncontrollable.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!"
Another heavy step answered him.
"WHY?!"
Yuuta screamed until his voice broke.
"WHAT DID I DO TO YOU?!"
The creature gave no answer.
Yuuta continued crawling.
His remaining hand slipped through his own blood, causing his body to collapse against the floor. He immediately tried again, sobbing uncontrollably as he pulled himself toward the distant gate. His mind no longer cared whether this was a dream. The pain was real. The fear was real. The blood beneath him felt real.
Everything was real.
"I don’t want to die..."
The words escaped between desperate breaths.
"I don’t want to die..."
Yuuta’s fingers trembled as they reached forward again.
"Elena..."
The thought of his daughter made his panic even worse.
"No... Elena..."
He desperately tried to pull himself another few inches.
"I have to wake up..."
His vision began flickering.
"Wake up... wake up... WAKE UP!"
Yuuta screamed at himself as though sheer desperation could tear him out of this nightmare.
Nothing happened.
The temple remained.
The blood remained.
The monster remained.
Another heavy footstep echoed behind him.
Yuuta’s breathing became weaker as his vision blurred almost completely.
"Why...?"
His trembling fingers dragged him another few inches forward.
"Why is this happening to me...?"
Yuuta’s crimson eyes struggled to remain open as the enormous gate blurred in the distance. His mind desperately searched through everything Isvarn had told him, until one warning suddenly resurfaced through the pain.
You cannot freely enter the Soul Realm.
Yuuta’s expression slowly changed.
"Grandpa..."
His voice was barely audible anymore.
"Is this... what you meant?"
For the first time, another possibility entered his fading mind. Perhaps Isvarn hadn’t been warning him about entering the Soul Realm itself. Perhaps he had been warning him about what existed inside it. Maybe this temple, the shadow figure, and the monster hunting him were all connected to whatever had been hidden inside his soul.
Yuuta tried to crawl once more, but his remaining arm finally gave out.
His body collapsed against the cold stone.
"No..."
Another heavy footstep echoed behind him.
Yuuta’s entire body trembled.
The monster was still coming.
He tried to crawl again, but his fingers merely scraped weakly against the blood-covered stone. Nothing happened. His body wouldn’t move anymore, and for the first time since the nightmare began, Yuuta stopped fighting against that reality.
He was going to die.
That realization didn’t bring courage.
It terrified him.
Tears continued sliding silently down Yuuta’s face as his crimson eyes slowly began closing. His thoughts became increasingly distant, jumping helplessly between the people waiting for him outside this nightmare.
Elena was sleeping beneath the tree beside him. She would probably wake up soon and complain that her papa had slept longer than her. Isvarn might become irritated and call him a foolish human again.
And Erza...
Yuuta’s trembling lips parted.
He suddenly wished she were here.
Not the Dragon Queen.
Not the terrifying woman capable of destroying armies.
Not the superior being everyone feared.
He just wanted his Erza.
The woman whose presence somehow made him feel that no matter how terrifying the world became, he wasn’t facing it alone.
Another footstep came closer, but Yuuta could barely hear it anymore. Darkness swallowed almost everything around him as his consciousness finally began slipping away. He didn’t have enough strength left to scream for help, nor enough awareness to understand whether the name actually escaped his lips.
"Erza..."
His voice was painfully weak.
Yuuta’s eyes finally closed as one last tear slipped across his cheek.
"...Erzaaa..."
The monster’s enormous shadow reached him just as Yuuta surrendered completely to the darkness.
