I'm Not Your Husband, You Evil Dragon!

Chapter 253: A World Where You Don’t Need Me

Erza flew silently through the night sky, allowing the cold wind to rush past her without caring where her wings were taking her.

Her long silver-white hair had fallen across her face, hiding her eyes from the world beneath her, but there was no hiding the tears that continued escaping from them.

Each tear rolled across her cheeks before being carried away by the wind, leaving behind the only visible evidence of how completely the argument had shattered her.

Her mind refused to become quiet. No matter how far she flew from the apartment, every moment continued replaying with painful clarity, beginning with the instant Yuuta had slapped her hand away and told her not to touch him.

She remembered reaching toward him because she thought he was still suffering from the Crown Seal, only for the man who normally accepted her touch without hesitation to look at her as though even her hands had become something dangerous.

"Don’t touch me."

Erza’s fingers trembled slightly as she continued flying.

Then came the accusations.

Yuuta asking what she had ever done for him. Yuuta telling her that she had only pretended to love him.

Yuuta saying that he had actually become afraid of the love she offered him. Every sentence returned one after another, but none hurt as deeply as the final accusation he had thrown at the one emotion Erza had believed was unquestionably genuine.

Animalistic love.

Erza clenched her teeth.

For anyone else, those words would have been enough to earn death. Calling the Dragon Queen of Atlantis a beast and reducing her feelings to nothing more than an animal’s obsession was an insult no queen, god, or warrior would have dared speak directly to her face. Centuries ago, Erza might have destroyed an entire bloodline for far less.

Yet she hadn’t hurt Yuuta.

Even when her aura exploded from the pain, she had controlled it so carefully that not enough pressure reached him to force him onto his knees. Even when she slapped him, she had restrained every fragment of her monstrous strength because the thought of actually injuring him remained impossible to her.

That realization only made everything hurt more.

"My Yuuta would never say those things to me..."

Erza’s voice disappeared beneath the wind as her wings continued carrying her above the sleeping city.

"He wouldn’t."

She desperately wanted to believe that. Perhaps Yuuta had still been confused after what happened to his mind. Perhaps the Crown Seal had affected his emotions, or perhaps the pain and fear of discovering his missing memories had simply caused him to say things he didn’t truly mean. Erza searched desperately for anything that would allow her to separate the Yuuta who had screamed at her tonight from the foolish mortal she knew.

But she couldn’t.

Yuuta had looked directly into her eyes when he said those things.

He had meant them.

Perhaps he would regret them tomorrow. Perhaps he wouldn’t. Either way, what had happened tonight couldn’t simply be erased, and for once Erza wasn’t willing to use magic to make it disappear.

Her wings gradually slowed until Erza finally stopped high above the city. She remained suspended beneath the enormous night sky while the full moon shone brightly before her, bathing her silver-white hair and pale wings beneath its light.

For several seconds, Erza simply stared at it.

Then Yuuta’s voice returned.

I HATE YOU TOO! YOU HEAR ME, ERZA?!

Her lips trembled.

YOU FUCKING LIZARD QUEEN!

Erza closed her eyes, but shutting out the world did nothing to silence him.

I WISH YOU NEVER CAME BACK!

A fresh tear slipped from beneath her eyelid.

Those final words hurt more than the insult.

Her composure shattered.

A broken sob escaped before Erza could suppress it, and she immediately covered her mouth with one trembling hand. Her wings shook behind her as the Dragon Queen lowered her head, crying alone beneath the moon where nobody could see her.

"It must be Heaven’s will..."

Her words came through uneven breaths.

"Yes..."

Erza wiped her cheek, only for fresh tears to replace the ones she removed.

"That’s what this is."

She slowly turned her head toward the distant city. Their apartment was far beyond what ordinary eyes could distinguish from this distance, but Erza knew exactly where it was.

"We were supposed to separate anyway."

She forced a fragile smile.

"Sooner or later... I was going to leave."

That had always been inevitable.

Yuuta wasn’t ready for the world surrounding her. Erza’s enemies, Atlantis, the secrets buried within his soul and the terrifying beings beyond Earth were all threats he couldn’t survive yet. She had already considered leaving him.

Perhaps tonight was simply fate forcing her to do what she had lacked the courage to do herself.

Erza tried desperately to accept that explanation.

"Maybe this is better."

Her voice trembled.

"Maybe Heaven knew I wouldn’t be able to leave you willingly."

A broken laugh escaped her lips as she wiped away another tear.

"Of course I wouldn’t. I’m stupid when it comes to you."

For the briefest moment, warmth returned to her expression.

Then Yuuta’s final words echoed through her mind again.

I wish you never came back.

Erza stared toward the distant apartment.

Every instinct inside her screamed to return. She wanted to fly through that balcony, grab the foolish mortal by his clothes, and force him to listen until neither of them had enough anger left to continue. She wanted to tell him he was wrong, that her love had never been false, and somehow return to the strange, imperfect relationship they had shared only hours earlier.

But returning would mean ignoring what Yuuta wanted again.

And hadn’t that been his entire accusation?

If she truly wanted to prove that her love wasn’t simply possession, then perhaps the first thing she needed to do was let him choose.

Even if his choice was to live without her.

Erza’s lips trembled.

"...Very well."

Another tear slipped down her cheek.

"...Just as you wish."

Her voice was barely louder than the wind. Erza lowered her gaze as she finally accepted the meaning behind Yuuta’s last words, no matter how much accepting them hurt.

"If my presence brings you nothing but suffering... then I will leave."

Erza slowly closed her violet eyes as she turned away from the distant apartment. Her wings spread behind her once again, but for several seconds she couldn’t bring herself to move.

"I won’t bother you with my ’animalistic love’ anymore."

A faint, broken laugh escaped her lips, but there was no humor behind it.

For several moments, Erza remained motionless beneath the moon.

Then something inside her expression gradually changed.

Leaving Yuuta didn’t mean abandoning him to this world.

Erza slowly turned her head toward the horizon.

Beyond the sleeping city stretched the enormous black ocean, and somewhere across that darkness were demons, monsters, rituals, and countless threats humanity had struggled against for years. Those creatures had already reached Yuuta once.

They had attacked his world, threatened people precious to him, and would continue doing so long after Erza disappeared.

Her fingers tightened against her chest.

"No."

The word left her quietly as her eyes became increasingly cold.

"If I’m truly going to leave you..."

Her voice trembled, but the decision behind it did not.

"...then I’ll leave you a world where you no longer need me."

She remembered the three wishes she had promised Grandpa.

"I’ll fulfill every promise I made. I’ll erase the demonic aura from this world. I’ll destroy every creature that could come looking for you again."

The pain hadn’t disappeared from her voice. If anything, it made the determination beneath her words even heavier.

"I’ll make this world safe enough for you to live however you want."

Erza’s violet eyes narrowed.

"You won’t have to wonder whether another demon will attack tomorrow. You won’t have to watch the people around you suffer because something stronger decided your lives were worthless. You won’t need me standing beside you to protect you anymore." Erza said

"And I’ll erase every trace of demonic aura from this world, so at least no demon will ever trigger another nightmare within you."

Her voice trembled at the final sentence, forcing Erza to pause.

Erza slowly wiped the remaining tears from her face.

"I’ll make this world so peaceful that you’ll eventually forget you ever needed me."

The words hurt, but she forced herself to continue.

"You’ll live your ridiculous little human life. You’ll finish your studies, annoy everyone around you, raise your children..."

Her expression briefly softened.

"...and maybe one day you’ll find happiness without this beast interfering with you."

That thought nearly broke her resolve again. Erza closed her eyes for a moment, swallowing the pain before opening them with renewed determination.

"But before that happens..."

Her aura began to rise.

The change was immediate. Clouds surrounding her slowly twisted away as invisible pressure spread through the night sky, and the ocean far beneath her began trembling beneath the presence of something it couldn’t possibly understand. Erza’s silver-white hair rose around her while her violet eyes gradually lost their sadness and regained the ancient authority of the Dragon Queen.

"...I have one final responsibility as your wife."

Erza turned fully toward the ocean.

The heartbroken wife who had fled the apartment was still there, buried beneath the tears she had just wiped away, but something else had awakened beside her.

This was the ruler who had commanded armies, the being whose authority had once made kingdoms lower their heads, and the monster humanity’s enemies had been unfortunate enough to provoke.

"I will end this demonic era."

Erza’s voice carried across the night as her aura continued expanding, yet beneath all that overwhelming power remained one painfully simple reason for what she was about to do.

Not revenge.

Not pride.

Yuuta.

"I’ll destroy every threat that could reach you. I’ll make this world safe enough that you can spend the rest of your life complaining about ordinary, meaningless problems instead of fighting monsters that should never have become your responsibility."

A small tear escaped despite the determination on her face, but Erza didn’t wipe this one away.

"And when it’s finally over..."

Her enormous wings spread to their full length.

"...I’ll return to where I came from."

Erza stared toward the horizon as the last traces of hesitation disappeared from her expression. She would return to Nova. She would return to Atlantis, to the throne and responsibilities she had abandoned, and she would leave Yuuta exactly what he had demanded from her tonight.

His freedom.

"You’ll never have to be afraid of my love again."

Erza’s lips formed the faintest, saddest smile.

"But even if you never know it..."

Her wings began gathering tremendous force as the air around her distorted beneath the pressure.

"...this will be the last thing I do for you."

With one devastating flap, Erza shot across the night sky, leaving a thunderous shockwave behind her. She didn’t turn toward the apartment again, because she already knew what would happen if she allowed herself one final look.

The wife would go back.

So Erza forced herself to remain the Queen.

Location: Lebius Agency

Place: Demon Postmortem Laboratory

Behind the reinforced observation glass, doctors and researchers worked around what remained of the high-ranking demon. Its corpse had already been dissected beyond recognition, with pieces of blackened flesh and organs sealed inside glass containers while tissue and blood samples were examined beneath microscopes.

Sara stood outside with her arms folded, silently waiting for the first report. Elite agents guarded every entrance to the laboratory, preventing anyone without proper clearance from approaching. Whatever secrets remained inside that corpse its biology, regeneration, weaknesses, or demonic energy the Agency intended to uncover them.

Yet only a short distance away, Fiona’s thoughts were nowhere near the dead demon.

She sat alone on the hospital steps, staring blankly at the ground.

Because every time she tried to think about the coming war, another woman’s face appeared instead.

Erza.

Even remembering the Dragon Queen made Fiona’s body tense.

She had known Erza was powerful, but what happened at headquarters had completely destroyed her understanding of that word. Sara had knelt. Raven and the Shadow Unit had submitted. Hundreds of trained soldiers had nearly collapsed from Erza’s presence alone.

And Fiona had brought that woman here in her own car.

"...I actually drove her here."

A nervous shiver ran through her before another, far more frightening memory surfaced.

Take care of Yuuta.

Fiona’s face paled.

At the time, she hadn’t understood how serious Erza’s command was. Now she did.

If something happened to Yuuta while he was under her care...

"...I’m dead."

Fiona immediately slapped both cheeks.

"No. Stop thinking about that."

She had demons to kill and revenge to finish.

Then a familiar voice reached her.

"Fiona!"

Her head snapped up.

"Loid...?"

A flash of genuine excitement crossed her face.

Loid had been her childhood friend for years. Their relationship had existed long before the current war, long before Yuuta had entered this mess, and certainly long before a terrifying Dragon Queen had suddenly appeared and started giving Fiona orders about what she was allowed to do with her life.

Fiona almost stood to greet him.

Then Erza’s voice returned inside her mind with horrifying clarity.

I do not care who he was to you. I do not care how close you were. I do not care what history you share.

Fiona froze.

The memory continued before she could stop it.

The moment you chose my Yuuta, every other man became dead to you.

The excitement immediately vanished from Fiona’s face.

Her head lowered as strands of hair fell across her eyes. Suddenly, Loid wasn’t simply her childhood friend approaching her anymore. He was someone Erza had explicitly warned her about, and after what Fiona had witnessed today, she couldn’t dismiss that warning as empty jealousy.

If Erza misunderstood their relationship...

Fiona swallowed.

She didn’t know whether Erza would kill her, Loid, or both of them.

More importantly, Loid had absolutely nothing to do with any of this. He didn’t know about Erza’s warning, nor did he understand what kind of creature had suddenly become involved in Fiona’s personal life. Dragging him into this because she wanted to preserve their friendship could place him directly in the path of something he couldn’t possibly survive.

Loid continued running toward her, completely unaware of the thoughts racing through her mind.

"Fiona! I’m sorry I disappeared. I was outside Anaya City when everything happened. You won’t believe what I found out..."

"Loid, stop."

Her voice was quiet.

He didn’t hear her.

Loid continued approaching with the same relieved expression, closing the remaining distance between them.

"I came back as quickly as I could. There was something outside the city and I thought you should know because...."

"I SAID STOP!"

Fiona’s voice suddenly echoed across the hospital entrance.

Loid froze.

His raised foot slowly returned to the ground as he stared at Fiona in complete confusion. Only a few steps remained between them, yet the distance suddenly felt far greater than it had seconds earlier.

"Fiona...?"

She didn’t look at him.

Loid’s excitement gradually disappeared as he studied her expression.

"What happened?"

Fiona remained silent, desperately forcing herself not to soften. She knew Loid too well. If she told him there was danger, he would ask questions. If she told him someone had threatened their friendship, he might become angry. If she admitted she was trying to protect him, he would probably refuse to leave.

So Fiona chose the one explanation that would make him stay away.

"Loid, listen carefully."

Her fingers slowly tightened beside her body.

"From now on... I don’t want you coming near me anymore."

Loid stared at her.

For several seconds he genuinely seemed unable to understand the sentence.

"What?"

Fiona finally raised her eyes toward him. Maintaining a cold expression was far harder than she expected, especially when she could already see confusion replacing the happiness that had been on his face moments earlier.

"You heard me. I don’t want to see you anymore."

Loid gave an awkward laugh, clearly believing there had been some misunderstanding.

"Wait, Fiona. What are you talking about? Did something happen while I was gone?"

He stepped forward instinctively.

Fiona immediately stepped backward.

That movement stopped him more effectively than her words had.

Loid’s expression changed.

"Fiona... what’s wrong?"

"Nothing is wrong."

"Then why are you acting like this?"

Fiona’s jaw tightened. Every instinct told her to explain herself, but Erza’s violet eyes immediately appeared inside her mind again. Fiona had witnessed enough today to know that gambling with the temper of a Dragon Queen wasn’t bravery.

It was suicide.

"I’ve simply realized something."

Fiona forced her voice to remain emotionless.

"I don’t feel comfortable when you’re around me anymore."

Loid’s face slowly went blank.

Fiona hated herself the moment she saw it, but she continued before she lost the courage.

"Our history doesn’t matter. Whatever friendship we had before doesn’t change anything. I’m your superior now, and I’m giving you a direct order."

She drew a slow breath.

"Don’t come looking for me again. Don’t wait for me. Don’t approach me unless it’s absolutely necessary for Agency work."

Loid stared at her as though he were waiting for Fiona to smile and reveal that this was some terrible joke.

She didn’t.

"Did I... do something?"

The quietness of his question nearly destroyed Fiona’s resolve.

For a moment she couldn’t answer.

Loid looked genuinely lost now.

"If I did something wrong, just tell me. You don’t have to suddenly....."

"You didn’t."

Fiona almost said it gently before catching herself.

She hardened her expression again.

"You didn’t do anything. I simply don’t want this friendship anymore."

The lie tasted horrible.

Loid remained standing in the same place, but something in his expression slowly collapsed. Fiona couldn’t continue looking at him. If she stayed another minute, she knew she would explain everything, and explaining everything would only pull him deeper into a situation she wanted him nowhere near.

She turned toward the hospital entrance.

"That’s all."

"Fiona, wait."

Her steps almost stopped.

Almost.

Instead, Fiona continued walking.

Behind her, Loid called her name once more, but she forced herself not to turn around. Her fists remained clenched as she passed through the hospital doors, and only when the doors closed behind her did her expression finally break.

Fiona leaned against the nearest wall and closed her eyes.

"I’m sorry, idiot..."

Her voice was barely audible.

She pressed one trembling hand against her forehead.

"...but I’d rather have you hate me than have that woman kill you."

Outside, Loid remained exactly where Fiona had left him.

He stared at the closed hospital doors in complete silence, unable to understand how the childhood friend who had looked genuinely happy to see him only moments earlier had suddenly treated him like a stranger.

And what neither of them knew was that Fiona’s attempt to keep Loid away from Erza’s attention had already created a completely different problem between them.
