"Faye, can you reach the pouch on my belt?" Magna asked urgently while focusing on the obstacles ahead of him.

He jumped over a bush here, ducked under a branch there, dodging every obstacle like a professional athlete.

If he could join a ninja warrior competition, he was sure he would win it for a lifelong prize.

"Pouch?" she murmured, trying to see it with her upside-down view.

"Ah, here it is." She spotted it hanging there, tied on with a cord around his belt.

"Good, just take a pill from inside and put it in my mouth." Magna said, though even he wasn’t sure how she would manage that in her current position.

She looked quite confident. "Leave it to me."

She reached for the pouch and untied the cord holding it to his belt. It took some effort, but she managed it.

Then she called out. "You’re holding me too tight, loosen up a little."

Magna did as she asked, only once he was sure she wouldn’t slip out of his hands.

If she fell, there would be no way to save her, since the Faceless Witch was already so close.

Once she felt the hand around her waist loosen, Faye started to move her body.

She grabbed his shirt to pull herself up, her feet and knees trying to find support, and along the way her knee kept knocking into his chest and face.

"Hey." Magna was about to warn Faye, who was squirming above him, but seeing her trying her best, he stayed quiet instead.

Faye was already halfway up, resting her knees on Magna’s shoulder. "Just... a little..." she grunted, finally grabbing a fistful of Magna’s hair and swinging her other leg over his other shoulder, settling into her final position with great difficulty.

"Hehe, done." She was now sitting on his shoulders, the pouch in one hand and her other hand gripping his hair like a set of reins, keeping herself from falling.

’Why does she look like she’s enjoying this,’ Magna wondered, wanting to scold her and remind her of the situation they were in, but he let it go again.

Ever since Magna arrived, she seemed to have left all her fears behind and forgotten them, completely indifferent even to the Witch who was chasing after them to torture and kill them.

She clamped the pouch with her teeth to reach inside with her right hand while her left hand remained holding onto Magna’s hair, and pulled out a regeneration pill.

"Say ahh," Still holding the pouch between her teeth she guided the pill to his lips with her right hand.

Magna opened his mouth and swallowed the pill right away.

[New substance detected... Recovery pill...]

[Energy particles detected...]

[Converting nutrients into mana...]

The moment the pill slid down his throat, he immediately felt an incredible warmth spreading through his stomach, and all the strain in his tired body vanished at once.

’This thing is incredible.’

It was not only as strong as a painkiller, instantly washing away all the ache in his body, but it was also incredibly fast-acting.

He immediately pulled up his status and checked his current mana reserve.

Mana 23.9%

Just one small pill had given him more than fifteen percent mana.

"Give me the rest," he said to Faye right away.

What he was trying to do wasn’t restore his stamina or heal any wound.

He was just trying to raise his mana reserve as much as possible.

"Sure, here you go." Faye took another pill and put it in his mouth, then another, until the pouch was empty.

After swallowing the last one, Magna could already feel the energy inside him nearly reaching its peak.

He checked the numbers again.

Mana 94.9%

That was perfect.

Then he began to murmur, since he now had enough mana to try to draw the pattern and see if he could cast that powerful attack spell.

"Hmm, what did you say?" Faye leaned in, trying to hear him mutter.

"Nothing, just keep your eyes on the Witch," Magna replied, and kept murmuring, producing the sounds as quietly as possible but perfectly.

With more mana now, he was able to fill more of the mana channels running through his body as he slowly began to draw a pattern.

It was really like drawing a picture. He remembered Celeste’s words from before, that if one had enough imagination, they could cast spells using only their voice.

Magna had just the right mind for that, since his whole life had been built around imagination alone.

Magna could picture the mana channels filling inside his body vividly in his mind, each channel that filled feeling like a line being drawn across a canvas.

Slowly, all those lines came together into one whole, wide picture.

"So close, oh so close," Faye’s panicked voice reached him.

’Just a little more time.’ He kept his focus on the canvas in his mind, kept moving his mana, until he finally felt it settle into a proper pattern.

"Magnaaa!" Faye screamed now, as the Faceless Witch’s broken, long nails were only a little distance away from them.

"Brace yourselves, I’m going to throw you." Magna warned first, then began to chant.

"O Vein of the Living World, River that has flowed since before the First Dawn, Silent Mother of Rain and Sea."

Then he started to murmur, drawing the very same pattern he had just formed.

Just as the Witch’s hand came so close to catching them, he suddenly stopped.

He threw Faye off his shoulders along with the skeleton in his other hand forward without even looking where they landed, and at the last second ducked to dodge the hand he felt coming straight for his neck.

In that split second, as the long, needle-sharp chipped nails grazed his hair, passing right over his head, he looked up and got his first close look at the Faceless Witch’s face.

Then, without wasting time to admire her beauty, he placed his palm, where the mana pattern’s focal point was concentrated, over her chest, and released the spell.
