Everything suddenly turned white. For a moment Magna wondered if he’d gone blind.

He could feel the power releasing from his palm a while before, and he could feel his mana reserve, or energy as it was also called, almost emptied inside his abdomen.

He also felt incredibly cold.

It wasn’t because his mana reserve was nearly empty that he was feeling that freezing sensation again. The air around him had suddenly turned freezing.

He tried to use his other senses to figure out what was happening around him.

He could still feel the chest his hand was touching, the Faceless Witch’s chest, which now seemed to be completely still and felt solid.

He pulled his hand back right away and stepped back to put some distance between them, then used his presence sense to find Faye and the skeleton.

"You... what did you... do?"

The skeleton’s voice reached his ears after he sensed her presence a little ways ahead.

It sounded a bit strange compared to before, carrying two emotions at once, awe and shock.

What her empty sockets saw in front of her was more than shocking, something she never could have imagined seeing at all.

Everything around them was now blanketed in white, covered in a thick layer of snow, and more of it kept falling from above.

As for the Faceless Witch... she stood there frozen solid.

’How is this possible?’

The skeleton forced her mind to make sense of it as she looked at Magna, who had just blinded himself with his own spell.

’How can a child like him cast a spell as powerful as a 9th Trial spell?’

That truly was shocking.

Even if Magna was a Shadow, it should still be impossible. Even the Shadow of a 12th Trial Witch could usually only cast spells at the level of a 6th or 7th Trial at most.

The main reason for that was mana capacity, as even the most experienced and talented Witch could only share that much of her mana with her Shadow.

She then turned to look at Faye, who lay on the ground with her eyes closed.

She seemed to have hit her head when she was thrown, and had lost consciousness.

So far, the skeleton assumed Magna was Faye’s Shadow.

In her eyes, this young Witch was at most a 1st Trial, maybe a 2nd, so there was no way she could channel enough mana to her Shadow for him to produce a spell this powerful.

’How long have I been stuck here for the outside world to change this much?’ She simply couldn’t make sense of it.

"I can’t hear Faye’s voice, is she alright?" Magna asked, walking toward the presence he thought was Faye.

The skeleton answered. "She just... seems to have lost... consciousness."

"What about that Witch?" Magna, finally finding Faye’s body, knelt down to lift her limp form onto his shoulder.

At the question, the skeleton looked back at the frozen body, still finding it hard to believe. "She seems... to be frozen... for now."

The spell apparently wasn’t enough to kill her, but it was a spell built to lock an enemy in place.

"Good." Magna said, walking closer to the skeleton and pulling her up too, settling her onto his other shoulder.

"I need you to guide me, since I can’t see anything," he said, and with the skeleton’s guidance, they started walking.

After a while, Magna’s vision thankfully began to return, enough for him to find his way to the hut.

"Where is this place?" the skeleton asked, startled, since it was the first time she had seen this structure.

Not that she had seen much of this dimension at all, since she had been bound to a tree with that rope as soon as she was caught.

"It’s the door out of here," Magna answered, still walking.

"Wait..." the skeleton suddenly shouted.

Magna flinched, not expecting that at all.

He had thought she would be happy, but instead she looked more panicked than anything.

"Why?"

"If I... leave this place... I’ll die."

"Huh? How?" Magna asked curiously as she began to explain.

The spell that Faceless Witch had cast on her was tied to Time. While her physical body kept aging at a normal pace, her soul had been trapped inside it, stuck in the same moment in time the whole while.

So if she left this place, the spell on her would lose its effect, and her soul would finally leave her body.

Magna found her situation truly pitiful.

All those years, until her body had withered to this state, she had been trapped here as a prisoner, and now that she’d finally found her chance to escape, the only way out also meant her death.

"It’s not that... I care about dying.... I just want... my daughter... and my family... to hear my last... words."

Her strained voice was full of remorse, as she thought back on all the years and moments she had missed and could never get back.

"I will pass it on to them, don’t worry." Magna answered. It was the least he could do for her.

"My name is... Morrigan Cinder." She started with her name, wanting to keep things brief so as not to waste time.

She had so much she wanted to say to them, but out of everything, she chose just one thing, her voice trembling as she said it.

"Please... tell them... I died fighting."

It was the kind of thing usually expected from a warrior or a knight, but Magna didn’t find it strange at all.

"I’ll tell them you saved her life," he said, looking down at Faye’s unconscious face resting on his other shoulder.

If there had still been any skin left on her face, Morrigan would have been smiling as her voice came out full of gratitude. "Thank you."

As Magna started walking toward the foul-smelling door of the hut, Morrigan asked one last question before he stepped inside. "Can you tell me... your name?"

"Magna."

Hearing the name, Morrigan seemed lost in thought as she only murmured, "I feel like... we’ll meet again."

Then their bodies vanished inside the hut.
