I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World

For a while Renna just looked at his face with mixed emotions.

So much so that it started to make Magna uncomfortable. "What? Say something."

"What do you want me to say?" Renna genuinely didn’t seem to know what to say after hearing his story.

Pity for him being abandoned and almost dying?

Happiness that he had survived and was now sitting across from her?

Resentment that her mother’s precious books had ended up in a filthy goblin cave?

But among all those questions, one thing stood out above the rest. This boy had definitely lived a messed up life so far.

"Do you know the family that abandoned you?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowing slightly again.

"How would I know? I was just a baby. I only know the story because the goblin who raised me told it to me." Magna couldn’t come up with a better excuse, so he just lied.

It only seemed to make the girl angrier, her eyebrows furrowing even more. "If I were you, I’d find them and beat them senseless."

Magna understood why she was angry again as he chuckled. "Yeah, if I ever find them, I’ll do that."

Renna sighed and slowly got up from where she was sitting, then started to walk.

"Where are you going?" Magna got up as well and started following her.

After all the effort and the story he had just told her, he had no desire to let her keep chasing her suicidal thoughts.

Thankfully, she answered calmly. "To the mansion."

She really had no desire left to face that Witch now.

"Good." Magna smiled, feeling pleased. "Let’s stop by the bakery on the way home. I’m starving."

He had skipped his meal because of her, so his stomach had been empty this whole time.

There were also many shops and vendors in the city that he hadn’t had the time to visit until now, so this could be a good chance to finally see what kind of local goods they sold in this fantasy world.

But that thought slowly faded as they kept walking back, replaced by tension.

"Wait..." Magna suddenly stopped and called out to the Witch walking ahead of him.

Renna, not understanding why he had suddenly stopped, turned around and asked, raising one eyebrow. "What?"

Magna looked around for a moment. Sunlight was still pouring down through the tree branches, and a light, calm wind blew now and then, brushing over the leaves and grass.

But he could no longer hear the birds singing.

"Really? Not again." He muttered, his hands moving toward the daggers on his belt.

"What’s wrong?" Renna asked again, starting to look around herself, trying to understand what had suddenly put him on guard.

"We’re inside her dimension."

Hearing that, she looked surprised. She didn’t question whether he was sure or telling the truth, she just asked. "How?"

She thought entering that dimension required touching some kind of medium, but here they were.

"I don’t know. But," Magna kept his guard up as he checked their surroundings. "We need to leave before she finds us. Follow me."

He turned around and quietly started moving toward the hut, since it was the only way out he knew of.

Renna looked reluctant at first, since she had again found her resolve again, but then she started following him.

She still wanted to fight that Witch, or at least see her once, but she no longer wanted to risk her life or Magna’s.

With Magna in front and Renna behind, they walked for several minutes until they reached the place where the exit was located.

Or at least, where it should have been.

"It had to be here. Where did it go?" Magna looked at the clearing ahead of him, empty except for trees and grass, feeling a cold chill run down his spine.

"Are you sure this is the right place?" Renna asked, looking around and seeing no trace of any kind of structure.

Magna double-checked the positions and shapes of the surrounding trees, the bushes, and even the small, grass-covered hill just ahead.

Every detail was showing to him, making him certain that this was exactly where the old hut had stood before.

He had an exceptional memory for places he had seen, rarely forgetting a single detail of a landscape once it caught his eye.

"I’m sure. For some reason, it’s gone now."

Finding themselves suddenly inside this dimension had already been a mystery. Now, with the exit vanishing too, that mystery had only grown deeper.

"Let’s go, maybe we can find another way out." Not wanting to stay in one place longer than necessary, he started walking again.

Renna kept following behind him, letting him take the lead.

But even after hours of walking, they couldn’t find the hut, or anything that looked like an exit at all.

After a while, strangely enough, they started passing through the same paths again, as if they were walking through some invisible portal that kept sending them back to where they started.

Even Renna, as time passed, started to feel her heart beating faster. Her tension was rising, turning into fear, as the feeling of being trapped in this place became harder to ignore.

She looked at Magna’s back as he walked ahead of her, taking on a responsibility that wasn’t even his, trying to find a way out.

Even though he looked completely calm, she could still guess he had to be scared too, since this was the place where he had almost died before.

"Sorry, this is because of me." She whispered, pulling the brim of her hat down to hide her face.

If she hadn’t come here in the first place, they wouldn’t be stuck inside now.

"Don’t worry about it, what’s done is done. Just focus on your surroundings." Magna said calmly, keeping his attention on the area around them.

Though inside, he was also starting to feel restless. ’Damn, how long have we been walking in the same place?’

He started to believe that if no one came from outside to save them, they would never find the exit on their own.

The only good thing so far was that they hadn’t run into the Faceless Witch yet.

But that wouldn’t last much longer either.

Magna suddenly felt someone enter his detection range. He turned quickly and pulled Renna down to the ground.

Renna, suddenly finding herself lying on the ground, flinched and wanted to ask what was wrong, but Magna beat her to it.

"Someone’s near."

Not long after, she started to hear soft footsteps, which only made her heart beat faster.

She was truly terrified now.
