Immortal Cultivation: Starting from a Pharmacy Apprentice
Chapter 292: ExplorationChapter 292: Chapter 292: Exploration
Bai Mo couldn’t find Yuan Chu and his two companions again.
An Caiwei had simply grown tired of walking and didn’t want to go any farther. They returned to where they had started, watching the disciples from the various peaks form up and enter the Secret Realm in succession.
He had wanted to see what kind of opportunities the fishing disciples would encounter, especially since the bait they were using glowed.
They had clearly come prepared.
’To think there are disciples with such good fortune, getting on the right track without any effort.’
However, by the time dawn broke, the glowing bait had become waterlogged, and they still hadn’t caught anything.
Their initial excitement faded into dejection, leaving them looking rather desolate.
At daybreak, the portal to the Jade Plate Secret Realm closed. It could only be opened at night.
Only the light screen summoned by the long-bearded elder remained.
Some Cultivators who also weren’t entering the Secret Realm occupied Stone Peak, taking out food and drinks to enjoy with friends as they watched, looking completely at ease.
Occasionally, someone would call out, asking if there were any vocal mimics around. They lamented that the light screen didn’t transmit sound, preventing them from fully enjoying the show.
"That’s the Mountain and Sea Sky Observation Skill!"
An Caiwei explained as she and Bai Mo returned together:
"After the sect developed this skill, previous generations of disciples gradually established its foundation within the Secret Realm."
"After so many generations of work, who knows how many anchor points have been set."
She had been watching all night, but her spirits were still high, mainly due to excitement.
"Now, the sect can monitor the heaven, earth, water, fire, and wind within it as freely as it pleases."
An enterprising disciple had set up a food stall by the roadside with reasonable prices.
So, Bai Mo and An Caiwei found a stall and sat down.
"They’re serving something this greasy so early in the morning?"
Bai Mo had spotted large bones floating in a big earthenware pot.
"Hey, what kind of talk is that?"
"We Cultivators eat and drink differently from mortals. Of course we eat whatever is most nourishing!"
The stall owner brought over a bowl of noodle soup made with bone broth, topped with tender meat that fell off the bone.
He clearly had some skill; the noodle soup was intensely fragrant.
But Bai Mo suddenly found the man very familiar, especially as he was bringing the noodle soup over.
That enthusiastic, business-like expression was even more familiar.
Bai Mo thought for a moment, then was suddenly stunned.
"It’s you!?"
"Weren’t you looking after the horses at the foot of Celestial Mountain City, Senior Brother!?"
This was none other than the Beast Taming Peak disciple from the beast stable at the foot of Celestial Mountain City, whom Bai Mo had met once before.
It was a good thing his memory was so sharp; otherwise, he really wouldn’t have remembered right away.
The stall owner froze, staring at Bai Mo for a moment before realization dawned on him.
"You’re Bai Mo, right? Junior Brother Bai?"
"What a coincidence!"
Bai Mo nodded, surprised.
"I never thought you had this kind of skill, Senior Brother..."
"Hah!"
The stall owner waved his hand and turned to walk away.
"I did a good job, so I was transferred back from Celestial Mountain City. I got back just in time for this, so why not earn some Spirit Stones!"
"A simple bowl of noodle soup is nothing difficult."
Seeing him go to serve other customers, Bai Mo paid him no more mind.
Just as he was sipping the broth, he clearly saw the stall owner take out a packet of powder and carefully pour it into the earthenware pot.
’And here I thought he actually had some skill...’
...
That night, Bai Mo and An Caiwei arrived together as the jade plate portal reopened in mid-air.
A gentle light spilled forth.
Disciples who had finished their preparations were entering one after another.
Meanwhile, figures would occasionally flash into existence in front of the portal and plummet toward the ground before they could even regain their senses.
Those with superior skills managed to right themselves with a few flails and land safely.
Some of the more frantic ones were lucky enough to be saved by a helping hand from the onlookers.
Only a few poor Cultivators who looked tough and burly received no pity, hitting the ground with a muffled THUD and ending up covered in dust.
Clearly, though only a day had passed, some disciples had already been killed.
As soon as these people emerged, they started beating their chests, stomping their feet, and shouting in distress.
"It’s the Demon Beasts in the Secret Realm! They’re attacking us in packs!"
"This year’s Demon Beasts are especially ferocious! They don’t even bother talking to us, just roar and attack!"
"I fell into a demon’s nest and fought for a whole day but couldn’t break out. I ended up getting torn limb from limb!"
One disciple, seemingly reliving the sensation, couldn’t help but shudder.
Bai Mo frowned.
"The Demon Beasts in the Jade Plate Secret Realm are that intelligent?"
From the disciples’ fragmented accounts, Bai Mo pieced together a picture of Demon Beasts different from those in the Celestial Barrier Mountain range.
An Caiwei hesitated for a moment, then said:
"For some reason, no matter the Grotto Heaven or Secret Realm, the Demon Beasts inside are always much more peaceful and more intelligent than the ones outside."
"The ones in places like the Jade Plate Secret Realm can even speak human language."
"And no one can quite explain why."
Bai Mo listened in amazement, merely nodding slowly.
Looking around, he saw many Cultivators with profound auras nearby, listening to the words of the fallen disciples.
Some even went right up to them and started asking questions.
"These people are all waiting for others to scout out the situation inside. They’ll make their move in a few days."
An Caiwei said:
"Their junior brothers are probably inside, scouting the path for them. It’s like a relay race to secure some kind of opportunity."
"They’re all shouldering the heavy responsibilities of their lineage."
Bai Mo looked back at the distant Beast Taming Peak disciple, who had now switched to selling late-night snacks.
"Is he probably gathering intelligence for Beast Taming Peak, too?"
"I wonder what they’re plotting."
An Caiwei didn’t seem to care. She suddenly tugged on Bai Mo’s sleeve with excitement.
"Look, our people!"
Bai Mo quickly turned his head and saw a group of people walking slowly upward, approaching the portal.
Such a large group was a rare sight, numbering more than sixty people.
The men of the Demon Hunting Team walked at the rear, ascending along the chains.
Years of tempering their bodies had given them an extremely stable stance. Combined with their stern expressions, they exuded a unique air.
Lanshan and his men released all their accumulated blood qi without holding back. As their blood pumped, a layer of white vapor formed on the surface of their skin.
Their burly, thick-waisted figures, like those of butchers, gradually slimmed down, revealing muscle definition that radiated a dangerous aura.
By the time they reached the jade wall, they had taken on the appearance of the untamable heroes who roamed the Celestial Barrier Mountain range.
"What tough men! Who hired these bruisers from the outside?"
Some disciples muttered amongst themselves.
"Tsk, tsk! A display like this must have cost a fortune. I wonder what they’re after."
"Outsiders have incomplete cultivation methods and usually aren’t much use, but these guys look like they have some tricks up their sleeves..."
Lanshan took a deep breath and glanced around, noticing many sect Cultivators looking at his group.
His body tensed slightly.
When he looked back, he happened to see Bai Mo waving at them.
Lanshan wanted to wave back, but seeing the group ahead start to move, he didn’t dare delay and stepped forward into the portal.
As they moved, he exchanged a glance with the men on either side of him, and they all silently popped a Pill into their mouths.
The Pill was fiery red, as crimson as blood.
Bai Mo watched them enter.
Just as he was about to ask An Caiwei about their plan for this trip, he heard a commotion.
"Divine Dao Mountain! Those are disciples from Divine Dao Mountain!"
"That’s f*cking Gong Gui! When did he and his buddies get so fierce!?"
Bai Mo’s heart skipped a beat, and he hurried toward the source of the commotion.
An Caiwei followed close behind.
Reaching the noisy group, Bai Mo looked up and saw Yuan Chu and his two companions on the light screen.
The moment he looked, he saw Gong Gui’s figure being thrown high into the air, soaring over a hilltop.
