Chapter 293: Divine TechniquesChapter 293: Chapter 293: Divine Techniques
BANG!
Gong Gui’s body slammed into the ground, gouging a crater into the earth that had been packed solid by the trampling of Demon Beasts.
"Argh!"
He grimaced and groaned, clutching his lower back as he struggled to his feet, his body hunched over.
The moment he looked up, he saw Xiong Xin and Yuan Chu in the distance. Without a single glance back, they were tearing through the Demon Beasts in their path, fleeing for their lives.
They carved a bloody path in their wake.
"You two..."
"Wait for me!"
Yuan Chu acted as if he hadn’t heard. His movements were like an old ape, leaping and dodging. He joined forces with Xiong Xin to break through a wall of flesh formed by several snake demons.
Seeing the great serpents fall still, he finally shouted back:
"We’re not as durable as you!"
"You’re on your own!"
"You! Bastards!"
Gong Gui was choked with rage, but also consumed by panic.
He had just managed to pry open the jaws of a Wolf Beast lunging at him when he turned to see the Cow Demon that had rammed him earlier charging at him again.
His heart seized with terror. He quickly yanked the wolf’s head back to use as a shield.
Gleaming white fangs scraped across his palm, leaving not a single mark.
POW!
Blood spattered. The wolf’s head, still attached to its body, wobbled and fell to the side, its neck limp.
The pair of rock-like horns struck Gong Gui’s chest. The immense force sent him flying into the wolf pack ahead, where he disappeared from sight.
"You, Niu! You killed my brother! I won’t rest until you’re dead!"
An old wolf, a third larger than the other Wolf Beasts, twisted its head. Its face was savage as it spoke viciously.
The yellow-brown-furred Cow Demon was unconcerned. It swung its two curved horns, which glinted with a metallic luster.
The Old Wolf snorted coldly and ignored it, turning to leap into the fray and join the siege on Gong Gui.
SWOOSH!
A small snake shot forward, as fast as lightning. Yuan Chu raised a hand to block it, his arm turning to rock.
The snake slammed head-first into his arm and was caught in his grasp.
He squeezed hard, and the highly venomous snake was crushed into a pulp that slid from his palm.
Xiong Xin watched with a hint of envy before thrusting out his own palm.
A trident-wielding Fish Demon blocking his path wore a look of utter despair as Xiong Xin slapped it into two pieces.
"Look at that Divine Technique of yours, tsk tsk. Turning your body to stone. It might not be as good for survival as Gong Gui’s, but it’s who knows how much stronger for killing."
Yuan Chu hooked his fingers around a nearby branch and swung himself up.
"Your Divine Technique isn’t bad either. You just haven’t had a chance to use it yet."
He reached out with his arms, one after the other, and disappeared into the forest.
"I’ll wait for you up ahead!"
Xiong Xin grunted in acknowledgment and charged headfirst through the blocking Demon Beasts, leaving the packs of wolves and foxes behind.
Once he broke through the encirclement, no Demon Beast could withstand a single blow from him.
"Gong Gui! We’ll wait for you up ahead!"
Far behind him, Gong Gui’s figure could be seen flying through the horde of Demon Beasts, getting tossed around and dragged back and forth.
His clothes were torn to shreds, and he screamed in terror.
After being thrown about like this several times, he finally found an opportunity and landed beside a nearby river.
Gong Gui gritted his teeth and tumbled into the river, sending up a shower of spray.
A few Fish Demons were just coming ashore with steel tridents. They couldn’t react in time and could only watch as Gong Gui fell into the water and was carried away by the current.
"After him!"
Several of the Fish Demons turned and leaped back into the water, riding the waves in pursuit.
...
"My word, since when did Gong Gui have this kind of ability?" a disciple who had joined the crowd of onlookers later asked in surprise.
Smelling the scent of smoke and fire on him, a nearby Cultivator was even more astonished.
"Aren’t you from the same lineage? How could you not know?"
The disciple from Divine Dao Mountain shook his head.
"My cave residence is right next to his. I see him every day coming and going."
"How could I not know what he’s capable of?"
"Could he have had some sort of fortunate encounter?"
As he spoke, a hint of envy and jealousy crept into his tone.
A disciple who had witnessed the entire event denied it.
"Not at all. The three of them were being chased by Demon Beasts the whole way."
"I thought they were done for, but then they each took a Pill and became fierce again."
"Especially Gong Gui. That guy was trampled, rammed, pulled, and bitten. He looked terrified, but he was completely fine."
This was not an ability someone at the Qi Refining realm should possess. Even a Foundation Establishment Cultivator would probably die on the spot if they took such a beating.
The Divine Dao Mountain disciple listened with a solemn expression, then his face shifted slightly.
"That’s the Divine Technique of the Money Turtle."
"The Money Turtle he worships was targeted by our mountain’s predecessors for unleashing demons to rob people. After failing to kill it, they brought it back to the mountain."
"The Money Turtle is still suppressed beneath the mountain to this day, living well, eating and sleeping soundly."
’It seems Yuan Chu and Xiong Xin are in a similar situation, then.’
"How did they do it? Borrowing a Divine Technique at the Qi Refining realm? What a joke!"
The Divine Dao Mountain disciple gritted his teeth. If he’d had that kind of ability, he wouldn’t have been eliminated on the second day.
His own patron Dharma Protector had thoroughly scorned him for it, believing he had lost face.
An Caiwei listened quietly, then suddenly leaned close to Bai Mo and whispered behind her hand:
"It’s the Lesser Fortune Golden Pill!"
"To be able to borrow even a Divine Technique like that... it’s truly amazing!"
Her eyes sparkled, and she looked proud, as if sharing in the glory.
’As expected of a Pill approaching the status of a Tier Three item. It’s just too powerful.’
Bai Mo’s expression remained unchanged as he replied softly,
"It’s just luck. What kind of Divine Technique you borrow isn’t something you can control."
"Look at Brother Xiong. Hasn’t his borrowed technique been rather unnoticeable?"
An Caiwei was unconvinced.
"With all his strength, Brother Xiong would be fine even without a Divine Technique. Maybe that’s why it’s not obvious."
The crowd murmured amongst themselves, their expressions changing as they looked back at the light screen.
Being able to escape from the beast horde proved that Gong Gui’s group of three already had the ability to seek out opportunities.
No one had expected three dark horses to emerge so soon after the Secret Realm opened.
And they weren’t even well-known powerhouses.
They watched as the beast horde began to separate, the different species clearly parting ways, apparently ready to give up the chase.
However, the Cow Demon that had rammed Gong Gui was not ready to give up.
After leaving, it broke away from its pack and followed the riverbank until it saw two steel tridents that had been washed ashore.
The Cow Demon paused for a moment, then turned and left, arriving at a deep pool.
The Old Wolf had already arrived. When it saw the Cow Demon, it shot it a fierce glare before turning its gaze to the deep pool.
"Mountain Guardian Lord, that is what happened."
"We let those three members of the Human Race get away. We couldn’t keep them here."
The Cow Demon added:
"I thought our friends in the water would be able to intercept one of them, but unexpectedly, that person seemed even more capable in the water."
"His whereabouts are now unknown."
The deep pool was silent for a moment, then ripples suddenly spread across it, the surface trembling without end.
A wave splashed up, soaking the Old Wolf’s fur.
"They have some skill. The Cultivators you speak of are likely not nobodies in the outside world."
A deep, booming voice emanated from beneath the water, like an echo from a dark cavern, stirring the soul.
"Forget it. Focus your attention on the other members of the Human Race."
"After they die, the power intercepted by the Jade Talismans is all the same. There’s no need to waste energy on tough nuts to crack."
The Cow Demon snorted puffs of white air from its nostrils and took a step forward, its tone filled with irrepressible excitement.
"Great Lord!"
"When can we use the power intercepted by the Jade Talismans?"
"Soon!" came the reply from the deep pool.
"After we kill a few more batches, we’ll go out and have some fun in the outside world too!"
"Staying in this realm is a death sentence sooner or later. More and more of the things buried underground are waking up..."
