Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1001: Knowing When to Bow

"Gone?"

Chen Changsheng furrowed his brows, surprised.

The demonic energy had vanished in a flash. The culprit was exceedingly sharp—clearly no ordinary demonic cultivator.

What baffled Chen Changsheng was the sheer audacity of it. To release demonic energy so brazenly in the Mortal World—did this demonic cultivator really think the heavens were blind?

Chen Changsheng followed the footprints, but scarcely a hundred steps later, the tracks vanished without a trace.

He paused, frowning.

Rain poured down around him, drumming against the leaves lining the road.

Chen Changsheng raised his hand, and a Black Pagoda appeared in his palm.

"Find him."

The Black Pagoda hesitated. It wanted to hurl a few curses. He treated it like a mere plaything, whipping it out when useful and tossing it aside when not. When it came to proper conduct, Chen Changsheng really knew how it was done.

Extremely reluctant, the Black Pagoda drifted upward to lead the way.

"Follow me."

Deep within the forest, a rather bedraggled figure slipped through the trees. He walked slowly, keeping a vigilant eye on his surroundings.

Wet hair stuck to his cheeks. He gave his face a light wipe; his steps were heavy, yet they left no footprints.

"Out in this barren wilderness, who could possibly be targeting us?" the man muttered, as if speaking to someone else.

Hovering just over the man's shoulder was a wisp of black energy. A voice drifted from it: "Not us. Me."

The man smiled. "I see. You've been hiding for so many years, yet the moment you come out, you get targeted. It's quite hilarious."

The black energy gave a cold snort. "If it weren't for the fact that you helped me back then, I would have swallowed you alive ages ago!"

"Yes, yes..." His lazy reply showed he was utterly indifferent to the black energy's threat.

Because of the light rain, a mist rose through the woods.

The dense fog rolled in with waves of moisture, dampening the man's clothes.

He hadn't taken more than two steps forward.

A Black Pagoda suddenly floated over.

Seeing this, the black energy swirling around the man's neck instantly froze.

"Crap!"

The moment he laid eyes on the Black Pagoda, he knew exactly who had tracked him down.

He acted as if facing a mortal enemy.

With that, the black energy tore away, fleeing in the opposite direction of the Black Pagoda.

"Huh?" The man standing in the woods was caught completely off guard.

A moment later, a figure stepped out of the mist behind the Black Pagoda.

Chen Changsheng met his gaze, though neither spoke a word.

"He ran!" the Black Pagoda said.

"Then hurry up and chase him."

"Oh."

The Black Pagoda and Chen Changsheng shot after the fleeing black energy, one in front of the other.

In the blink of an eye, they brushed right past the man standing in the forest.

Moments later, it grew entirely quiet again.

The man standing in the woods paused. He had been about to cup his hands in greeting, but the stranger had vanished in the blink of an eye.

Zhao Wuji rubbed his nose and shook his head.

This place was likely no longer safe to linger in.

He needed to leave quickly. If that Mister remembered him and circled back, he feared he wouldn't be able to escape a calamity either.

The Black Pagoda chased after Chen Changsheng. Before long, they spotted that fleeing streak of black energy.

Chen Changsheng furrowed his brow at the sight.

"Taiqing!"

As the word left his lips, a fierce sword soared upward, transforming into a streak of stunning light as it hurtled toward the black energy.

"Fuck!" the black energy cursed, realizing his luck today was absolutely rotten to have run into this bastard surnamed Chen.

The sheer might of the Taiqing Sword made the black energy shudder, but he didn't dare stop. He knew perfectly well that in his current state, he couldn't hope to fight Chen Changsheng. Even at his peak, he wouldn't dare...

"Clang!"

The sword light slashed through the black energy.

A miserable shriek rang out.

The black energy didn't dare stop, forcing himself to keep fleeing.

The very next moment, however, another Immortal Sword blocked his path.

The Listening Rain Sword emanated a powerful sword aura, coiled and ready to strike.

Now, the black energy was caught in a dilemma—a vicious tiger ahead, and pursuers behind.

He tried to turn and flee to the side, but it was too late.

Chen Changsheng had already sealed off his path, and turning his head again, he saw the Black Pagoda blocking the other side.

The black energy froze, then broke into a furious bellow. "Chen! There's no bad blood between us! Why are you dead set on killing me?!"

Hearing this voice, Chen Changsheng suddenly realized who it was. Caught between laughter and exasperation, he said, "So it's you."

The Evil Phoenix faltered, momentarily stunned.

"What do you mean? Didn't you come here specifically to kill me?"

Chen Changsheng said, "This Chen was just passing by..."

The Evil Phoenix instantly went livid. "You aren't even human!!"

Eight lifetimes of bloody bad luck!

Everywhere he went, he kept bumping into this bastard surnamed Chen!

The Cultivation World hadn't worked out, so he had fled to the Mortal World. Who could have guessed that this bastard surnamed Chen would show up at the Investiture of Immortals Assembly in the blink of an eye and ruin his plans there, too?

He had fled to the Southern Domain with grievous injuries. He had finally managed to nurse himself back to health, yet the moment he came out, he bumped straight into this guy again!

He was truly cursed with a fate fraught with hardship!

Chen Changsheng asked, "What do you say? Do you want to fight with This Chen, or are you going to quietly submit to execution?"

The Evil Phoenix fell silent.

Truth be told, he knew exactly how much weight he carried right now.

Right at that moment, the Gourd hanging at Chen Changsheng's waist floated into the air.

"Hmm?" Chen Changsheng paused.

"This gourd..." The Evil Phoenix felt it looked incredibly familiar, as if he had seen it somewhere before.

He instantly realized.

Wasn't this the exact same gourd that had hunted them down when they broke out of the spirit cage?!

That killed whatever chance of winning he had left.

The Evil Phoenix instantly deflated.

"Kill me or carve me up, do as you please."

Never mind Chen Changsheng himself. Between the two Immortal Swords blocking him front and back, the Black Pagoda, and now the Gourd, he wouldn't be able to escape even if he sprouted wings.

Chen Changsheng smiled. "This Chen doesn't have to kill you, but you'll have to do something for me."

The Evil Phoenix froze and said, "Chen! Did you forget how much you tortured me?! I'd love nothing more than to cut you into a thousand pieces! And now you want me to be your dog? Don't even dream about it!"

Chen Changsheng nodded upon hearing this. He raised his hand, and the Taiqing Sword fell into his grip.

The Evil Phoenix faltered slightly. "You think I'm afraid to die?!"

"Oh."

Without waiting for him to finish, Chen Changsheng swung his sword over—quite simple and brutal.

The Evil Phoenix panicked, hastily shouting, "I'll do it! I'll do it!!"

The edge of the blade stopped just a finger's breadth away.

Chen Changsheng put away the sword and smiled. "Wouldn't it have been fine if you just said that earlier?"

Of course the Evil Phoenix was afraid to die. If he wasn't, why would he spend all his time hiding in the shadows? Why would he have hidden his demonic energy and erased his footprints the moment he felt the slightest gaze?

He just hadn't expected Chen Changsheng to be so decisive. He had wanted to negotiate a bit and secure some benefits for himself, but who could have expected the Immortal Sword to just swing straight at him?

With a bitter mix of emotions, the Evil Phoenix asked, "What do you want me to do?"

Chen Changsheng said, "It's simple, just find Jian Shenghua for me."

The Evil Phoenix froze. "He's been exposed?"

Chen Changsheng said, "What do you think?"
