Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1066: A Dog Stranded on Flat Ground

Life in Nanyuan remained as placid as still water.

Not a single ripple disturbed the peace.

Manyue had read every book in the study and grown bored of them. Most of the time, she simply slept.

She lay motionless in her chair, her eyes closed.

She slowly opened her eyes only when she heard a noise behind her.

Chen Changsheng walked up beside her. "Has anything happened over the last two years?"

Manyue glanced at him. "Ever since you helped them clear the mist beneath the Heavenly Dao's gaze, I've barely been able to sense the outside world. If you ask me, I have no idea."

"I see..."

Chen Changsheng sat down and reached into his robes, pulling out a handful of Red Beans.

"Go cultivate," Chen Changsheng said.

The tiny figures headed up to the eaves of Nanyuan. They sat in a neat row, closed their eyes, and began to regulate their breathing.

"Aren't you cultivating Yin-Yang Qi now?" Manyue asked. "These figures are mostly composed of wood-attribute spiritual energy. How can you use them?"

"This Chen cannot integrate them into my own body, but I can borrow their Magical Power," Chen Changsheng said.

"I see."

Manyue nodded. "Just like your hair back then?"

Chen Changsheng nodded. The principle was exactly the same.

He then asked, "The Evil Phoenix said before that the Demon Lord's head was here in Nanyuan. Have you found anything during your searches?"

Manyue shook her head, indicating she had found nothing.

"It seems it isn't here, then."

Chen Changsheng sighed softly. After a moment of thought, he said, "Perhaps there is someone who knows where the real Nanyuan is. It might be worth asking him."

"Who?" Manyue asked.

"Zhao Yuqing."

Manyue blinked and shook her head. "Never heard of him."

Chen Changsheng smiled. "He's a very powerful cultivator."

They didn't chat much longer. After leaving Nanyuan, Chen Changsheng rode his sword south. This area was in the Desolate Sea Borderlands, where no Flying Vessels passed through, so he had to travel quite a distance on his own.

As he continued south, the surroundings slowly grew less desolate.

After a long while, a Flying Vessel finally appeared over the Desolate Sea.

Chen Changsheng breathed a sigh of relief.

He followed the vessel to a port and eventually boarded it.

The Flying Vessel from Lingyue Immortal Island didn't have a route heading to Yunfu Mountain, so Chen Changsheng had to disembark halfway and complete the rest of the journey himself.

During his last visit, the place had looked like this.

And this time, it remained exactly the same, without a single detail changed.

This time, however, Chen Changsheng didn't have to head up the mountain to search. Zhao Yuqing descended the slopes, his brow furrowing the moment he spotted Chen Changsheng. "Why are you here again?"

Chen Changsheng offered a bow. "I came to ask you a few things."

Zhao Yuqing's expression soured; he seemed quite displeased to see Chen Changsheng.

"It isn't about that snake demon," Chen Changsheng said.

Zhao Yuqing paused inwardly, lowering his guard just a fraction. "Speak!"

Chen Changsheng said, "This Chen wishes to visit Nanyuan. I was wondering if you knew where it was..."

Zhao Yuqing's eye twitched at the words.

The name seemed to dredge up a slew of memories.

He recovered his composure a moment later. "It was destroyed long ago."

"Destroyed?" Chen Changsheng asked.

Zhao Yuqing looked at him. "Didn't you destroy it with your own two hands?"

"I destroyed it myself?"

Chen Changsheng felt a wave of helplessness. "Why not just speak plainly?"

"Back then, you were entering fire and falling into demons," Zhao Yuqing said. "You went completely mad. You drew down heavenly fire and massive floods, accompanied by a tremendous earthquake. The entire Nanyuan was utterly destroyed."

"Do you know where it is now?"

"Don't you already know?"

"Why would This Chen know?"

Zhao Yuqing looked at him and said, "The last two times we met, I could tell at a glance that the aura of the Rebirth Scripture clung to you. If you haven't been there, how could that be?"

Chen Changsheng understood what he meant. "You mean to say... it lies beneath those former high walls?" he realized.

"The original Nanyuan was an Immortal Mountain, an isolated island floating on the Desolate Sea," Zhao Yuqing said. "Because you were entering fire and falling into demons, you triggered the earthquake that completely buried Nanyuan within the Desolate Sea. Are you truly ignorant of this, or are you just playing the fool?"

"This Chen had always assumed that place was constructed much later."

Chen Changsheng lowered his head, lost in thought.

Zhao Yuqing looked at Chen Changsheng in exasperation. "You truly are an utter fool. With so many things laid out before you, even if they weren't explicitly stated, you should have at least guessed a little. How can you be so completely oblivious?"

Chen Changsheng smiled, offering no argument. He merely said, "This Chen also heard that you were my disciple."

Zhao Yuqing's face instantly darkened.

He reached to draw his sword.

Seeing this reaction, Chen Changsheng said, "So, This Chen truly was your master in the past?"

"I do not acknowledge you as my master," Zhao Yuqing said.

Chen Changsheng glanced at him and asked, "Why..."

"Because..."

Zhao Yuqing was just about to speak.

But he suddenly saw the sky change color. A faint rumble of thunder echoed from above.

"Rumble!"

Anger flared on Zhao Yuqing's face. He pointed his sword at the heavens and cursed, "Who are you trying to scare?! Strike me down if you have the guts! You think I, Zhao Yuqing, am afraid of you?"

Perhaps he was simply too arrogant.

A bolt of Heavenly Tribulation actually blasted down.

"Huh?"

Startled by the sight, Zhao Yuqing immediately bolted in the other direction.

"Why are you running?"

Chen Changsheng froze, completely blindsided by this turn of events.

Zhao Yuqing's escape left the Heavenly Tribulation plunging straight toward Chen Changsheng instead.

Chen Changsheng cursed and hastily dodged out of the way.

"Boom!!"

The heavenly thunder slammed into the island, igniting a raging fire and blasting a massive crater into the ground.

Chen Changsheng gasped for breath. Fortunately, the Heavenly Tribulation hadn't been locked onto them. If it had been, given his current level of ability, it truly would have been a death sentence.

"Zhao! Are you out of your mind?!" Chen Changsheng said.

Zhao Yuqing glanced at him. "Was I supposed to just wait around to get struck by lightning?"

"Aren't you known as a great demon? You're afraid of this?"

"Do you think everyone is like you?"

Zhao Yuqing patted the dust from his robes. Exhaling a breath, he said, "Whenever you're involved, hardly anything goes normally. That lightning really should have struck you dead."

Chen Changsheng wore a look of helplessness. "Could it be that This Chen is some sort of taboo?"

Zhao Yuqing looked at him and said, "You really are."

Chen Changsheng sighed helplessly. He waved a hand, pulling the conversation back to their previous topic. "So, in my past life, This Chen truly was your master..."

"Just a cheap master who didn't know a thing," Zhao Yuqing said.

"I thought as much. That's how it should be."

Zhao Yuqing narrowed his eyes at him. "You seem awfully proud?"

"If This Chen had been capable of raising a disciple like you, how would I have fallen into such a state?"

Zhao Yuqing looked him up and down. With a slight nod, he said, "Indeed. A dog stranded on flat ground."

"It should be the tiger descends to the flatlands."

"Heh."
