Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1136: Watching the Show

Over the centuries, the splendor of Shangjing City had never faded. The fires of war always swept toward it, ringing out the old and ushering in the new just like the passing years.

Kings were replaced, and the sun and moon took their turns in the sky.

Everything seemed to change, yet this bustling prosperity remained forever the same.

The liquor flowed down his throat, incredibly cool and refreshing.

Mister Qingshan looked up at the magnificent city. Since ancient times, countless people had tried to trample it beneath their feet—wave after wave of figures charging forward.

By the city gates, an old man stood yawning, seemingly waiting for someone.

Only when Mister Qingshan finally appeared did the unkempt old man open his eyes.

Chen Changsheng walked over to his side.

Their eyes met. The Old Sword Cultivator yawned and said, "Oh, you made it."

The Old Sword Cultivator stretched. "I can sleep in a tree. This is nothing."

Chen Changsheng reached out and pulled him up.

The Old Sword Cultivator smiled and said, "Come on, I'll buy you a drink."

Mister Chen smiled warmly and followed him.

The tavern was packed with patrons, mostly soldiers and officers. After years of fighting, they were finally able to relax. With good days ahead and titles and official posts being handed out, they were eager to enjoy themselves.

The tavern was inevitably noisy, but a quiet tavern was hardly a tavern at all.

They ordered several pots of wine. As Chen Changsheng and the Old Sword Cultivator chatted, the wine in their cups never stopped flowing.

It wasn't long before both of their faces were flushed.

"You have no idea. I've seen quite a bit over the years. I went to the Far Northern Land, where the earth is made of ice and the snowstorms stretch on for thousands of miles. Standing in the middle of it, you feel like you're the only person left in the world. It's lonely, but incredibly peaceful."

"Later, I headed south, all the way to the very edge. I thought it would be warm with spring flowers blooming, but to my surprise, it was just like the north—bitterly cold. A flock of strange-looking geese lived there. They were fat and clumsy, incredibly endearing to watch. I even caught one to keep me company. It led me through that frozen wasteland, and I got to see the scenery of the cold sun."

The Old Sword Cultivator rambled on, his drunkenness pulling him deep into memories of the past few years.

Chen Changsheng met his gaze with a smile. "Walking from the north to the south... that journey must have been truly unforgettable."

"Heh, that's not all. I also discovered a secret. This world actually has two sides! I walked from this side to the other. I just kept going straight, and eventually ended up right back where I started—right here. I went north, kept heading north, and a few years later, I was back here again. This is truly, truly..."

Chen Changsheng paused. "Why would it be two sides? Based on what you're saying, could it be that the world is a sphere?"

The Old Sword Cultivator froze, realization dawning on him. "That's it! Why wouldn't it be a sphere? You're right! You're right!"

"Hahahaha, I understand! I finally understand!"

"So that's how it is! That makes perfect sense! Hahahaha..."

Seeing him so ecstatic, Chen Changsheng didn't interrupt, simply letting him rave.

The Old Sword Cultivator said, "Brother Chen, Brother Chen, this world is a beautiful place! You have to go out and see it for yourself. The scenery is simply..."

Chen Changsheng watched him calmly. Seeing the look of pure enjoyment on the old man's face, he couldn't quite put it into words, but a trace of envy stirred in his heart.

"It's no fun going alone," Chen Changsheng said.

"What are you talking about? We'll go together."

"Didn't you already walk it once?"

"So what?"

The Old Sword Cultivator said, "We won't head north or south this time. We'll go west and make the journey again. If things are really as we suspect, then this world isn't flat and square at all, but a sphere! If word of this got out, it would absolutely shock the world."

"Come, come, come! Drink up, drink up!"

The Old Sword Cultivator was drunk, his words already beginning to slur.

Chen Changsheng felt genuinely happy for him. The old man had truly walked the tens of thousands of li across this world.

The two of them were drinking to their hearts' content when a sudden voice interrupted them.

"Hey, keep it down!"

"You there, old man! Keep it down!"

The Old Sword Cultivator drunkenly turned his head. The people yelling at him were a group of soldiers chatting over their drinks.

The Old Sword Cultivator smiled. "Pardon us, pardon us..."

With that, he turned back around, lowering his voice.

The soldier teased them, "You two old-timers aren't exactly young anymore. Better take it easy on the drinks. It's getting dark out, and if you take two steps and trip, it won't be as simple as a few broken bones and pulled tendons."

Chen Changsheng smiled warmly at this. "Thank you for the warning, sir. The two of us will be fine."

The soldier nodded and went back to his own drinks.

The Old Sword Cultivator leaned in and whispered, "Ah, the man is reasonable. No fun at all. I was already getting ready to draw my sword."

Chen Changsheng smiled helplessly. "There aren't that many unreasonable people in the world. Just drink your wine."

The Old Sword Cultivator chuckled. "Fine, fine. Guess I can't play the villain today. Drink up, drink up."

They thought the matter was over and done with.

But what happened next gave Chen Changsheng and the Old Sword Cultivator quite a show to watch.

A group of soldiers, full of food and wine, stumbled drunkenly down from the second floor.

The tavern keeper hurried forward with a smile. "Did you gentlemen enjoy your drinks?"

"Not bad, not bad at all," the man leading the group said. "Your wine is pretty good."

"Thank you for the praise, my lord," the keeper said, his voice trembling slightly. "But regarding the bill..."

"Same as always. Put it on our tab."

The keeper hesitated. "Oh, my lord, to be completely honest, our tavern hasn't had much money coming in lately. We've been operating at a loss for the past couple of days. Do you think you could possibly..."

"Hey, you old fool, can't you understand plain speech? I said put it on our tab!"

The soldier roared at the top of his lungs.

The tavern keeper froze in fear.

The shout drew the attention of Chen Changsheng, as well as the other group of soldiers drinking at the nearby table.

The keeper's legs trembled. Not daring to say another word, he could only swallow the loss.

But the soldier sitting at the side table suddenly spoke up. "Xu Ye, you're throwing your weight around quite a bit, aren't you? Refusing to pay for your meals now?"

The man he had addressed was the drunken soldier.

Xu Ye's gaze snapped over. "Who? Who dares to call me by my name? Which one of you is looking to die?"

Seeing the man, Xu Ye let out a laugh. "Oh, look who it is. Chen Bin. A petty officer with zero merits to his name actually dares to yell at me?"

Chen Bin let out a cold snort. "Why wouldn't I? At least I'm better than a bastard like you who lies about his military achievements."

Xu Ye's face immediately darkened. "Are you looking to die?"

The Old Sword Cultivator's eyes lit up at the sight of the standoff.

"Ohoho, now they're fighting!" the Old Sword Cultivator said.

Seeing the glee on his face, Chen Changsheng couldn't help but say, "Looks like you'll get your wish to play the villain after all."

The Old Sword Cultivator chuckled. "Hard to say, hard to say."

Chen Bin slammed his hand onto the table and stood up. "Don't get too full of yourself, Xu Ye! Things aren't the way they used to be. If word of your behavior reaches Your Majesty's ears, you won't be able to keep your head attached to your neck."

Xu Ye froze, sobering up slightly. But the anger still burned in his chest, and he cursed, "Is it your place to lecture me?!"
