Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1158: No Casual Killing

Hearing this, Dong Chiyu did not even wait for Ruyi to speak before grabbing her spear from the room.

The moment the men from the Local Government saw the weapon, they immediately unsheathed their sabers and swords.

"Insolence!"

"Drop the weapon!"

Dong Chiyu furrowed her brows. Seeing this, Ruyi quickly stepped back to stop her.

"Don't, Blockhead!"

Ruyi jumped in fright. They couldn't afford to act so recklessly.

Roaming the jianghu was one thing, but she still didn't have the guts to openly oppose the Local Government!

Commoners did not fight officials. If they actually came to blows, the nature of the situation would completely change.

"Are you all blind?!"

Lihua shouted, instantly stunning the soldiers and constables.

"A d-demon?!"

Lihua ignored their shock and snapped, "Do you have any idea who stands before you?! This is Commandery Princess Ruyi, personally titled by Your Majesty! Are you courting death?"

Ruyi froze for a moment before snapping back to reality.

She rummaged through her robes and pulled out a Waist Token that proved her status as a commandery princess.

"A commandery princess?"

The constables and soldiers exchanged blank looks.

In a backwater town like theirs, how would they know anything about a commandery princess?

But they could see the Waist Token clearly enough. After hearing that declaration, they didn't dare act rashly—especially not with a cat demon perched on the woman's shoulder.

Yet, who could say for sure if her identity was real?

For one, they had never met such nobility. For another, why would a commandery princess visit such a remote place?

"Hold on, hold on..."

The head constable stepped forward and respectfully cupped his hands toward Ruyi.

"Please forgive us, Commandery Princess. We are mere country folk and have never met a noble like yourself. As for this Waist Token... we... we cannot verify its authenticity. Could we trouble you to accompany us to the Local Government office?"

Hearing this, Ruyi breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

At least it would keep them from fighting.

"Let's go."

Thus, Ruyi, Lihua, and Dong Chiyu were all taken to the Local Government office.

Hearing of their noble status, the authorities naturally didn't dare act rashly.

The magistrate immediately went to verify her identity.

Only then did they realize this was all a misunderstanding.

"This is bad! The Waist Token is real! She might actually be a commandery princess!"

Yu Youyu, on the other hand, was in a miserable spot.

"Girl, you've stirred up huge trouble this time! Sigh. If things go south, even we'll be dragged down with you. You'd better run, otherwise..."

Hearing this, Yu Youyu's mind dissolved into chaos.

She had never known how sinister the world could be.

Could it be that even the law couldn't punish such villains?

But before Yu Youyu could make up her mind, men from the Local Government arrived and brought her over, claiming the noblewoman wished to see her.

After all the commotion, Ruyi and Yu Youyu finally came face to face.

A look of despair surfaced on Yu Youyu's face. She glared at Ruyi, gritted her teeth, and said, "Kill me or torture me, do as you please!"

The young girl was filled with righteous indignation, swearing to the death never to bow to such evil forces.

Lihua rubbed its forehead, completely exasperated.

It couldn't help but look at the two main culprits.

One was Ruyi, the other Dong Chiyu.

Yet both of them wore utterly bewildered expressions, having no idea what they had done.

Perhaps in their minds, neither of them felt that their actions amounted to bullying.

Then again, they practically acted like bandits on a daily basis anyway.

And bandits rarely understood reason.

"No, why would I kill you?" Ruyi asked, genuinely perplexed. "I think you've misunderstood something here."

Yu Youyu clenched her fists and gritted her teeth, her eyes locked on Ruyi.

The hatred in her eyes was practically overflowing. Even so, her eyes turned red, and tears streamed down uncontrollably.

In the end, she was still just a young girl.

Ruyi was just about to speak when Lihua stepped forward. "Don't say anything, Ruyi. Let Lihua talk."

Dong Chiyu opened her mouth, but Lihua swiftly cut her off as well.

"You can't talk either."

Lihua paced forward slowly and said, "Look, uh... Yu-something-Yu? Sigh, Lihua can't remember. Anyway, these two aren't good people, and they don't know how to talk. Let Lihua explain it to you. This is completely a misunderstanding! A misunderstanding!"

Yu Youyu stared at the talking civet cat and said timidly, "Demons... demons don't speak the truth!"

Lihua: "..."

Ruyi burst out laughing, instantly slapping her chair.

Lihua turned its head and shot her a glare.

Ruyi immediately glared right back.

Lihua instantly deflated and turned its head away.

Its temper flaring up again, it snapped at Yu Youyu, "Lihua is going to talk! And you have to listen!"

Yu Youyu froze, startled by the outburst.

Seeing this, Lihua blanked for a moment before saying, "No, I didn't mean it like that, I..."

Yu Youyu's tears started falling again.

"Hey, why are you crying?!"

Lihua immediately started scratching its ears, its tail swishing back and forth.

This was truly getting tricky.

Yu Youyu sobbed, her eyes filled with an unspeakable sense of grievance as she gritted her teeth and spat out, "You're all a den of thieves!"

Lihua: "..."

Waving its paws, Lihua said, "Lihua is a good person! No, wait, Lihua is a good cat! A good cat!"

Yu Youyu looked at it, completely unconvinced.

Lihua let out a long sigh. "Lihua doesn't care what you think anymore; I'm just going to explain it to you. When we first came here, we weren't looking to make trouble for you. The three of us are good people. We don't just kill people casually, we don't..."

Lihua hadn't even finished speaking.

Yu Youyu muttered, "Don't just kill people casually..."

Lihua opened its mouth and stammered, "That's not what I meant. Look, just now, and before that, did you see us kill anyone? No, right? We've definitely killed people before, but we aren't killing anyone now, see?"

Yu Youyu trembled again, growing even more terrified in her heart, muttering, "You've killed people before..."

"..."

Ruyi opened her mouth, instantly panicking as well.

She grabbed the scruff of Lihua's neck and hoisted it over. "What nonsense are you spouting?! Who's killed people? I certainly haven't."

Ruyi looked at Dong Chiyu and asked, "Blockhead, have you ever killed anyone?"

Dong Chiyu blanked for a second, then nodded.

"Huh?"

Dong Chiyu caught herself, hurriedly shaking her head. "I haven't, I haven't. Mm."

Not a single word of truth among them; it was all just a performance.

Yu Youyu burst into tears, thoroughly convinced her days were numbered.

Listening to her wails, Ruyi found it too hard to explain.

"Smack!"

She slammed a palm onto the table.

"Stop crying!"

She glared fiercely at Yu Youyu.

Yu Youyu let out a tremble, instantly biting back her sobs to look at her.

"I'm not going to kill you. From now on, you'll follow me, and I'll teach you the sword. If you agree, just say so. If you don't, I'll..."

Ruyi paused and narrowed her eyes.

"If you don't, I'll kill you."

That tone sounded especially menacing.

Yu Youyu kept crying, not knowing how she could possibly agree to that.

Dong Chiyu coughed lightly and said, "I didn't slander you."

Ruyi coughed, unsure of how to reply.
