They had crossed thousands of li on flying swords to reach this place.

Seeing the figures descending from the sky, the demonic cultivators froze in shock.

"Fellow Daoists, follow me! Stop these hypocrites!"

The demonic cultivators surged upward. At the same time, Wang He positioned himself to guard the outside of the Altar.

"Halt!"

An Immortal Sword shot forward, aimed straight at Wang He's throat.

Retreating several steps, Wang He spun and knocked the blade away.

The weapon spun back into the grasp of a Sword Cultivator.

Jiang Chengxiu stared at Wang He and said, "We meet again."

Before the two could trade blows—

A thunderous shout rang out.

"Fellow Daoists, follow me! Trample this place and slay that demon! Restore the natural order!"

In this desolate and dim land...

Amid the howling wind and driving rain, the thunder tribulation roared. Lightning illuminated heaven and earth, throwing everything in the surroundings into sharp relief.

The orthodox and demonic paths had clashed once again.

Dharma Manifestations and Divine Abilities erupted across the battlefield. Before long, the area descended into absolute chaos.

Longsword in hand, Xiao Dongxu used the chaos to slip toward the Altar.

Wang He caught sight of him, his eyes widening. "Stop him!" he shouted.

Xiao Dongxu realized he had been spotted.

He hurriedly turned to fend off the surging demonic cultivators.

His blade concealed yin and yang, transforming into the five elements to project illusions of mountains, rivers, metal, and stone. A single horizontal sweep drew upon the momentum of the heavens, sending the charging demonic cultivators flying.

Seizing the opening, he charged forward, sprinting toward the Altar.

But at that exact moment, a sharp beam of sword light slashed toward him.

A chill ran down Xiao Dongxu's spine, and he immediately ducked to evade it.

Spinning around, he saw Jian Shenghua soaring toward him on a flying sword.

"Get down!"

Jian Shenghua barked, his hands moving without pause.

He thrust his blade forward with lethal intent, forcing Xiao Dongxu to scramble out of the way.

Xiao Dongxu drew a deep breath, struggling to parry the incoming blows.

Against a Sword Immortal like Jian Shenghua, he was utterly outmatched.

He watched himself quickly lose ground.

Yet Xiao Dongxu had no other choice. Delving into the tiger's den was undeniably reckless, but he needed a solution. If he could just get a little closer, he might uncover the Altar's true purpose and sever this flow of destiny.

"You demonic cultivators always resort to such underhanded methods. Bullying the younger generation is hardly something to boast about."

Accompanying the voice, Hu Junhan struck forward with a palm.

The blow instantly defused Xiao Dongxu's perilous situation.

Jian Shenghua faced him, narrowing his eyes. "The dignified Fox Lord, mingling with Human Dao cultivators."

Su Junhan glanced at him and said, "A ghost cultivator like you should focus on your own practice instead of meddling in such affairs. It seems you feel you didn't die thoroughly enough the first time."

"Enough talk!"

Jian Shenghua's expression chilled as he charged forward, sword raised to kill.

Xiao Dongxu gasped for breath. Seeing the Fox Lord lock in a stalemate with the attacker, he scrambled toward the Altar once more.

He broke into a sprint, his gaze continuously sweeping over the ancient characters carved into the Altar.

He was on the verge of reaching it.

But suddenly, another figure stepped forward, beating him to it by a single stride.

Xiao Dongxu froze in his tracks and looked up.

As the figure turned to look at him, the man coldly declared, "He dies by my sword! The rest of you, get lost!"

Xiao Dongxu stood stunned. The man's overwhelming aura crashed down on him, instantly pinning him in place.

At that exact moment, Su Junhan and Jian Shenghua also ceased their fight.

Both of them shifted their gazes over.

They stared at the man standing atop the Altar.

Su Junhan was taken aback, surprise coloring his voice. "Zhao Yuqing?"

Gripping his Wooden Sword, Zhao Yuqing strode forward. Even as heavenly thunder struck the Altar right before his eyes, he showed not a shred of fear.

Looking ahead, he saw the figure sitting cross-legged, desperately trying to stabilize himself. The man's physical body was on the verge of collapse; only the protective shield of surrounding demonic qi kept him from being obliterated by the Heavenly Tribulation.

Zhao Yuqing's face remained as cold as ice as he raised his Wooden Sword.

Realizing the danger, Jian Shenghua lunged forward, aiming to intercept him.

But at that critical moment, Su Junhan stepped into his path.

Su Junhan glared at him with cold eyes. "Where do you think you're going!"

"Get lost!"

Jian Shenghua cursed, his heart burning with anxiety.

Su Junhan snorted coldly. His robes fluttered wildly as he unleashed his Demonic Power to its absolute limit. Eight tails flared out behind him, and an overwhelming majesty settled over his brow.

Jian Shenghua was frantic, but caught in this dilemma, he could neither advance nor retreat. All he could do was silently pray that the Demon Sovereign would survive this tribulation.

Zhao Yuqing held the Wooden Sword high, poised to strike down the Demon Sovereign upon the Altar in the very next heartbeat.

But just as the blade began to fall—

The figure before him suddenly opened his eyes.

The sword in Zhao Yuqing's hand stalled for a fraction of a second.

It was only for a fraction of a second.

Their eyes met. For reasons he could not explain, a strange delusion suddenly bloomed in Zhao Yuqing's mind. Though he gripped the sword tightly, he found himself entirely unable to swing it down.

"Ah!!!"

A horrific, piercing scream tore from the Demon Sovereign's throat.

Demonic qi violently rippled outward.

In a flash, massive tremors rippled across the land.

The thunder tribulation was shattered. The chaotic brawling all around ground to a sudden halt. Trees were uprooted, and the cultivators dueling on flying swords were entirely swept away by the devastating gale.

"Crack..."

The Altar began to crumble.

The Demon Sovereign rose to his feet. With a single lift of his hand, rolling demonic qi washed over the land, crushing everything within a hundred li beneath its overwhelming pressure.

Chen Daoqiu and the cultivators from every path went wide-eyed. Beneath this monstrous pressure, they found themselves completely immobilized.

Zhao Yuqing stared blankly at the figure standing before him.

The Demon Sovereign shot him a glance and parted his lips as if to speak. Instead, in the very next breath, he activated a Divine Ability to flee the area.

Su Junhan shouted at the top of his lungs, "Zhao Yuqing, what are you hesitating for?!"

Zhao Yuqing snapped back to his senses instantly and unleashed a blast of Sword Qi.

But it was too late.

The demon had already executed his Divine Ability, dissolving into a trail of smoke as he made his escape.

The sword strike hit nothing but thin air.

Zhao Yuqing let out a heavy breath. When the reality of the moment finally set in, his eyes clouded with utter bewilderment.

Xiao Dongxu panted, his lips parted in shock. "That demon escaped?!"

Zhao Yuqing froze, turning his head to stare at Xiao Dongxu.

Still dazed himself, Xiao Dongxu asked, "Just now, why did you..."

Without even waiting for him to finish, Zhao Yuqing took to his flying sword and vanished.

His figure blurred past Xiao Dongxu.

Xiao Dongxu stared blankly in the direction he had gone, completely at a loss as to what was wrong with Zhao Yuqing.

Seeing that the Demon Sovereign had escaped, Jian Shenghua let out a long breath of relief.

"Retreat!!"

Seizing the opportunity, he fled as well, refusing to linger a moment longer.

Spotting this, Wang He immediately abandoned the demonic cultivators beneath the Altar and sprinted for his life.

But Jiang Chengxiu had no intention of letting him go and gave chase.

"Where do you think you're going?!"

Wang He cursed his terrible luck and pushed his speed to the absolute limit to shake him.

But Jiang Chengxiu clung to him like a leech, refusing to be shaken off.

Back at the Altar, although the demonic leader had slipped away, the remaining demonic cultivators were not allowed to escape. The cultivators from the various Immortal Mountains and Immortal Sects joined forces to slaughter them. Overwhelmed by sheer numbers, the demonic cultivators were steadily driven back, and the surviving stragglers were rounded up and captured.

Once again, the operation had ended in failure. They had allowed the demon to slip through their fingers at the most critical moment.

Su Junhan quietly watched the aftermath unfold before his eyes.

His lips parted as a singular thought surfaced in his mind.

Why did it always end up looking like a complete farce...
