Seeing the Heavenly Dao in hot pursuit, Zhao Yuqing simply fled through the City God Temple and into the Underworld.
"Motherfucker. I refuse to believe you can still chase me down here."
Zhao Yuqing sneered. Sitting down in the Sand Sea, he finally found a moment of peace.
But he hadn't rested for long before Manyue walked over.
Manyue raised an eyebrow. "How did you end up looking so wretched?"
Zhao Yuqing turned to look, his anger immediately flaring up again. "You old hag, why did you take Yu Xuan's form? I'm in a foul mood right now, so you'd better screw off. Get out of my sight."
Manyue didn't get angry. Instead, she found him rather amusing. He sounded like a street thug, or worse, a petulant brat.
"The Heavenly Dao leaves no room for you above, making the Underworld your only refuge," she said. "I am the Lord of the Underworld, and I am the Heavenly Dao here. If you offend both sides, I really don't know where else you plan to hide."
Zhao Yuqing opened his mouth to retort, then realized she had a point.
Manyue smiled. "It wouldn't have."
Truthfully, even if Zhao Yuqing hadn't intervened, she still had other ways to repel the Heavenly Dao.
She sat down next to him. "Since you have nowhere else to go, just stay in the Underworld for now. There is no Spiritual Energy here, but it is still a fine refuge. The Underworld is quite interesting—no worse than the outside world."
Zhao Yuqing waved a hand dismissively. "I'm going to sleep."
With that, he began to snore.
He was truly exhausted.
Seeing this, Manyue didn't disturb him further. Raising a hand, she laid down an isolating formation, letting him sleep peacefully in the Sand Sea.
Zhao Yuqing was a key.
A key to open the gates of the Heavenly Dao.
Before the Demon Sovereign left, he had asked her to keep an eye out for him. Now, she had accomplished that task, even if the result was a bit messy.
The news of Zhao Yuqing's battered arrival soon reached Chen Changsheng's ears.
When Chen Changsheng finally saw Zhao Yuqing again, the man was still fast asleep.
There was no telling how long he had been out.
Chen Changsheng simply decided not to leave. He stayed nearby, practicing the Dream Method while waiting for Zhao Yuqing to wake.
An unknown amount of time passed.
The domain of the Dream Method expanded wider and wider.
Zhao Yuqing groggily drifted awake. It was likely the pervasive stench of blood that finally roused him to his senses.
Opening his eyes slowly, he found himself sleeping on a bed made of piled bones.
Beneath the bones lay a sea of blood.
Jolting fully awake, he spotted Chen Changsheng sitting cross-legged on the bone pile nearby.
"Chen Changsheng!"
Catching his breath, Zhao Yuqing snapped, "Where the hell is this?!"
Chen Changsheng woke from his trance at the shout.
Instantly, the surrounding scenery faded away. The mountain of corpses and the sea of blood vanished, returning them to the Sand Sea.
Zhao Yuqing froze, then sat up.
"That just now was an illusion," Chen Changsheng said.
Zhao Yuqing hesitated, then scoffed. "Do you think I'm that easy to fool?"
Chen Changsheng paused, then chuckled. "I thought you hadn't looked closely."
"What was that?" Zhao Yuqing asked. "A Dharma Manifestation? A minor world?"
"It is the Dream Method."
Chen Changsheng added, "You can think of it as a minor world lacking complete rules."
Zhao Yuqing stared at Chen Changsheng, carefully studying his appearance. "Are you that demon, or are you Chen Changsheng?"
"The genuine article."
Chen Changsheng blinked. "I have just been studying the demonic path lately. The scenery inevitably became a bit bloody."
"Son of a bitch, you really do look like a demon."
"Do I?"
Chen Changsheng rubbed his chin. "It's not that bad. I don't look that much like one, do I?"
Zhao Yuqing shook his head, unable to fathom what Chen Changsheng was thinking.
He exhaled heavily. "Just don't actually succumb to it. That demonic energy is bad news, even if it is incredibly useful."
Chen Changsheng nodded seriously. "This Chen naturally understands."
"But speaking of which, why are you in such a sorry state? It looks like you fled here."
"The Heavenly Dao is hunting me."
Zhao Yuqing sighed. "It is its territory, after all. I'm no match for it."
Realization dawned on Chen Changsheng.
"Come to think of it, I'm to blame for this," he said.
Zhao Yuqing sneered. "Don't flatter yourself. I just have an old grudge with this Heavenly Dao. I didn't come here to save you."
Chen Changsheng's ears perked up. "Now that you mention it, This Chen is quite curious about your grievance with the Heavenly Dao."
Zhao Yuqing waved a hand. "It's ancient history. Nothing worth bringing up."
He changed the subject. "By the way, about the matter you entrusted to me earlier—I couldn't find him. That mongrel is very good at hiding. Plus, with the Heavenly Dao hunting me, I didn't have the time to keep looking."
"If you can't find him, let it go," Chen Changsheng said. "It's more important that you stay alive."
"There is one more thing."
Zhao Yuqing continued, "In the dynasties of the Mortal World, that old dragon has disappeared. Furthermore, the astrology shows a drastic shift in the Emperor Star—a sign that the Human Sovereign is changing hands. I don't know what's going on."
"Is someone rebelling?"
"No. This astrological sign is baffling, yet there haven't been any disruptions in the affairs of the Mortal World."
Chen Changsheng fell into deep thought.
"You just said the Old Dragon King vanished?" he asked. "Ying Zheng?"
"Yeah."
Zhao Yuqing nodded. "The waters in the Mortal World raged out of control recently, and your disciple undergoing Dragon Transformation even went over to help. Right now, they're ignoring the matters of the Desolate Sea and staying in the Mortal World to suppress the floods. It's caused quite a stir. The entire Cultivation World knows about it, and everyone is guessing what happened down there."
Chen Changsheng raised an eyebrow. "What do you think happened to Ying Zheng?"
"I say disappeared, but he's most likely dead."
Zhao Yuqing said, "The idols in the Water God and Dragon King Temples across the Mortal World have all shattered. Even if he isn't dead, he's probably crippled."
"The idols shattered?!"
Chen Changsheng was shocked, his expression turning grave.
This was entirely unexpected.
He pondered deeply, murmuring, "With Ying Zheng's abilities, who could possibly do anything to him?"
"I could kill him as easily as slaughtering a chicken."
Zhao Yuqing said, "You think too simply of this world. Some of those old fossils possess quite a few tricks. If they can't win in a fair fight, they play dirty. That old dragon did have some skill, but it wasn't enough."
"What about you, then?" Chen Changsheng asked. "You have quite the notorious reputation in the Cultivation World. How did you manage to suppress them?"
"Simple."
"No matter how sinister their methods are, they can't overcome an absolute gap in power," Zhao Yuqing said. "If you ever have the chance to return to the Cultivation World, go ask around. Logically speaking, the major Immortal Sects should all have a few ancient ancestors. But tell me, how many Immortal Sects have you seen summon an ancestor lately?"
Chen Changsheng was taken aback, turning to stare at him.
Zhao Yuqing let out a mocking laugh. "Back then, all those old fossils joined forces and marched up Yunfu Mountain. I slaughtered them all."
