Zhao Yuqing had an exceptionally simple understanding of the world.

If anyone annoyed him or wanted to kill him, he would simply kill them first. That way, the world would be at peace.

This wasn't just a fleeting thought; he had actually done it, and succeeded.

Though he possessed noble righteousness, some of his ideas were more demonic than the demonic path itself. This made him a true maverick; for all these years, he was the only person living on Yunfu Mountain.

Chen Changsheng quietly admired him for this.

After all, such absolute freedom to act on one's desires was not something ordinary people could achieve.

However, looking at him now, things were not going so well.

Ever since the Heavenly Dao began hunting him, he had grown increasingly uneasy. His speech had lost its grace, and his hostility had grown heavy.

"You never go anywhere these days anyway," Chen Changsheng said. "You might as well stay in the Underworld. It's peaceful here. If you get bored, there's plenty of work to do. Bullying the cultivators who come here looking for trouble could be quite entertaining."

"I think you'll stay."

"Hmm?"

"Let me take you to meet someone."

Chen Changsheng brought Zhao Yuqing to see Meng Po.

When Zhao Yuqing got a clear look at her face, his heart jolted.

"She... she..."

Zhao Yuqing raised a finger toward Meng Po, his eyes filled with disbelief.

Chen Changsheng nodded. "Manyue told me she is Yu Xuan, though I'm not entirely sure myself. She doesn't seem to remember anything."

Zhao Yuqing fell silent.

He opened his mouth and said, "Didn't she die a long time ago? Why is she in the Underworld?"

"That demon used to hide deep within the Yellow Springs," Chen Changsheng said. "I think he might have intercepted her back then."

Zhao Yuqing looked at Yu Xuan before him. He shook his head, deeply dazed.

Sometimes, it was truly hard to believe.

Taking a deep breath, he said, "Then I'll stay here for a while."

Chen Changsheng patted his shoulder. "Have fun."

And so, Zhao Yuqing remained in the Underworld, transforming into an underworld deputy to stand guard inside Mengpo Hall.

He frequently observed Meng Po, likely trying to confirm if she was truly the Yu Xuan he remembered.

Chen Changsheng, however, had no mind for such matters.

He devoted himself entirely to cultivating his Dream Method, and gradually began to see results.

...

Great Jing grew more prosperous by the day.

The Jiangnan region was a picture of peace and prosperity, alive with music and dance.

Ornate pleasure boats floated down the river, carrying graceful dancers to the beat of drums and gongs. Crowds along the banks clapped and cheered. The atmosphere was incredibly lively.

Yu Youyu had rarely seen such a vibrant sight.

This was vastly different from the ease of the Southern Domain Frontier.

She broke off a piece of steamed cake, popped it into her mouth, and watched the bustling scene with keen interest.

When she finally returned to her senses, she intended to go buy something elsewhere.

But when she patted her waist, her money pouch was missing.

Startled, Yu Youyu gasped, "My money pouch!"

She had no idea when it had been stolen.

She knew the money pouch was likely gone for good.

She stomped her foot in anger.

But for some reason, the sword strapped to her back, wrapped tightly in thick cloth, suddenly began to tremble.

"Listening to Rain?"

Yu Youyu unwrapped the cloth. Staring at the sword in her hand, she asked, "Can you help me find my money pouch?"

Listening to Rain wobbled, nodding in response.

In the instant Yu Youyu was distracted, the sword suddenly slipped from her grasp.

"Listening to Rain!"

Yu Youyu cried out in alarm, but Listening to Rain suddenly darted away.

She sprinted after it.

Listening to Rain wove through the crowd.

It kicked up a gust of sword wind.

The crowd was forcefully parted, carving out a clear path down the middle.

Instantly, the street dissolved into chaos.

Screams erupted from the crowd. People tumbled over, while others were pinned against the walls on either side.

"Clang!"

In front of a steamed bun stall.

Someone was reaching out to take a steamed bun from the vendor, having just grasped it in his hand.

Suddenly, a sharp sword hum pierced the air.

Startled, Ning Bufan immediately threw his hands up. A burst of Buddhist light flared, forming a shield in front of him.

But Listening to Rain shattered the Buddhist light without breaking a sweat.

"Spare me!"

Ning Bufan shouted, thoroughly terrified.

Listening to Rain stopped right at his throat.

Cold sweat poured down Ning Bufan's back, and he hurriedly raised his hands.

But when he looked at the sword before him, he froze.

"It's you!"

Ning Bufan naturally recognized this blade.

Wasn't this Chen Changsheng's sword?

What was it doing here?

Just then, Yu Youyu caught up to them.

Panting for breath, she looked ahead to see Ning Bufan standing with his hands held high, while Listening to Rain was pointed squarely at his throat.

And clutched tightly in Ning Bufan's hand was a money pouch.

Was that not her very own money pouch?

"You little thief!"

Yu Youyu marched up, grabbed the hilt of Listening to Rain, and snapped angrily, "Give my money pouch back."

Ning Bufan blinked, glancing down at his hand.

The money pouch?

He immediately realized what was happening.

"Here, here, take it!"

Yu Youyu snatched the pouch back. Seeing that little was missing, she gave a cold snort. "Come with me to the Local Government!"

"Miss, Miss," Ning Bufan pleaded. "I gave the money pouch back! You still want me to go to the Local Government?"

"Does returning it mean you're innocent?" Yu Youyu retorted.

"No, that's not..."

Ning Bufan suddenly remembered something else—he had almost forgotten what he was going to say. "Right, where did you get that sword?" he asked hurriedly.

Yu Youyu looked down at the blade in her hand, a moment of confusion crossing her face.

She put it away.

"What's it to you?"

Ning Bufan gathered himself and said, "You misunderstand, Miss. I only asked because that sword looks familiar. It seems to belong to a senior of mine."

He paused before adding, "It should recognize me."

"Who recognizes you?"

"The sword in your hand! It's called Listening to Rain, isn't it? Listening to Rain!"

Yu Youyu froze. She glanced at Listening to Rain.

Listening to Rain slipped from her grasp and circled Ning Bufan once, as if finally recalling who he was.

The sword then turned to face Yu Youyu and dipped in a nod.

Yu Youyu stood there, utterly dazed.

"You know Mister Chen?"

Hearing this, Ning Bufan heaved a sigh of relief. He nodded vigorously. "I do, I do! In fact, Mister Chen and I are very close."

Yu Youyu furrowed her brows. Grasping Listening to Rain, she leveled it right back at his throat.

"Nonsense!" she snapped. "How could a friend of Mister Chen commit such petty thievery?!"

...

Ning Bufan's mouth twitched. "Don't get agitated, Miss. As the saying goes, anyone wandering the jianghu runs into a tough spot eventually. I was just hungry and bought a bun. Look, the pouch isn't missing more than a couple of coppers, right?"

"That's only because I got here in time!"

Yu Youyu retorted indignantly.

Ning Bufan gave a dry laugh and reached out to push the blade a few inches away. "Have a heart, Miss. For Mister Chen's sake, just let me off this once. I was truly forced by circumstances... truly forced by circumstances..."

Yu Youyu looked at him hesitantly, unsure of what to do.

In that split second of distraction, Ning Bufan spun on his heel and bolted.

"You little thief! You still dare to run!"

Yu Youyu immediately gave chase, but she was nowhere near as fast as he was.

In the blink of an eye, he had vanished without a trace.

Gritting her teeth, Yu Youyu shouted, "Don't let me catch you!"
