The atmosphere was somewhat awkward.
Daoist Sanyuan glanced at the two of them and let out a helpless sigh.
Truth be told, Daoist Sanyuan also disapproved of Yan Nantian's actions, but he had rarely made enemies in recent years and thus refrained from speaking too harshly.
This was entirely unlike Priest Wuwei, whose every word carried a sharp edge that left people with no graceful way to back down.
Yet some resentment was justified. Yan Nantian had single-handedly brought about the current state of the world, yet he expected all its people to bear the burden and resolve it alongside him.
Yan Nantian kept his head bowed, a storm of thoughts swirling in his mind.
Daoist Wuwei's gaze fell on the empty teacup on the table, then shifted to Yan Nantian.
Their eyes met.
A moment later, Yan Nantian stepped forward.
Yu Youyu watched this scene, finding it somewhat unbelievable.
The tea flowed slowly from the spout into the cup.
"Please, Priest," Yan Nantian said.
Daoist Wuwei raised the cup and took a sip, only to spit it right back out.
"It's cold."
Yan Nantian's expression shifted slightly, but he quickly regained his calm. "Please wait a moment, Priest."
He set the teapot over the charcoal fire to reheat it.
Once it seemed warm enough, he picked up the teapot again to pour.
"That is enough."
Daoist Wuwei waved a hand and let out a soft sigh, taking the teapot straight from Yan Nantian's grasp.
Yan Nantian paused, looking at Daoist Wuwei.
"Priest..."
Daoist Wuwei said, "You must remember that you are no longer the emperor. By entering the Immortal Sects and bearing the hardships of this path, you have left your high and mighty station behind. You will certainly endure humiliating tasks like pouring tea again in the future. Do not let it anger you. On this Great Dao, reason has never held sway."
Daoist Wuwei lifted the teapot, fetched a fresh teacup, and poured a cup of tea.
He then reached out and pushed it across the table to Yan Nantian.
Yan Nantian stared at it in stunned silence for a long while.
Daoist Sanyuan smiled at him and said, "What are you standing there in a daze for? I have never once seen Priest Wuwei pour tea for this poor Daoist."
Yan Nantian hurriedly reached out and picked up the teacup.
"Thank you, Priest!"
With that, Yan Nantian downed the tea in one gulp.
The tea was bitter, yet a fleeting sweetness bloomed in its wake.
It seemed to mirror the Great Dao itself—sweetness emerging only after the bitterest struggles...
Daoist Wuwei said, "The Imperial Seal is safely put away. You have no need to worry."
As he spoke, his gaze drifted to Yu Youyu.
"And as for this Young Lady."
Daoist Wuwei looked at her and said, "You possess myriad Divine Abilities, yet you have marched straight into a quagmire. The truths of this world are always thought-provoking, but reality is unbearably ugly. You still lack a state of mind capable of embracing such vast Divine Abilities. Your Cultivation still has a very, very long way to go."
Yu Youyu listened to his words. She hesitated for a moment, but offered the Daoist no reply.
She turned around and walked away, untroubled by anything else, leaving the scene just like that.
The two Daoists made no move to stop her, merely watching her calmly.
Yan Nantian looked at Yu Youyu's retreating figure. Her back appeared incredibly lonely, as if she were the only person left walking on this road.
Daoist Sanyuan said, "Look no further. The road she has to walk is still very long..."
Yan Nantian fell silent for a moment before asking, "Priest, tell me... if she had made it to Shangjing City back then and saw me, would I still be alive?"
Daoist Sanyuan pondered this for a moment, then shook his head and said, "It would likely have been certain death."
"Likely? Certain death?"
Yan Nantian did not quite understand.
Daoist Sanyuan smiled. "You and she do not walk the same path, and she does not walk ours, either. This poor Daoist has a premonition that she just might be the one to shatter the current status quo."
"Shatter the status quo?" Yan Nantian asked in confusion.
Daoist Wuwei, who had not spoken a word, said, "You do not understand. People like you and people like us have merely surrendered to the ways of the world. But she is different. The path she walks is meant to overturn this world."
Hearing this, Yan Nantian finally seemed to understand.
He opened his mouth and asked, "By herself?"
"There will be many others in the future."
Daoist Sanyuan added, "It is just that those who come after are still chasing her footsteps."
Yan Nantian froze at the thought. After a brief hesitation, he asked, "Will we be among those who come after?"
Daoist Sanyuan and Daoist Wuwei exchanged a glance.
The two priests smiled at each other.
"Would that not depend entirely on you?"
Yan Nantian seemed to finally grasp their meaning. He then asked, "Speaking of which, when did Priest Wuwei retrieve the Imperial Seal?"
Daoist Wuwei said, "The moment I saw you beneath the city walls, I made a trip to Shangjing."
Yan Nantian nodded. "As long as it is not lost, that is good."
Daoist Wuwei let out a cold snort, clearly still harboring some dissatisfaction.
If he had not made that trip, there was no telling when the Imperial Seal would have been lost.
...
Ultimately, Yu Youyu believed those words.
She did not hound Yan Nantian any longer. Instead, she set off on the road alone—a road where she had no idea where she was going.
She had lost her purpose, not knowing where to go.
Before she left, the Daoist's words had left her in deep thought for a very long time.
She had indeed acquired heaven-defying abilities, with countless techniques stored in her mind. Even though her Cultivation Base was insignificant, she could still rely on this profound knowledge to make a name for herself across the world. Yet, it was true that she lacked a state of mind that could match such power.
She possessed strength, yet did not know what it was for.
In this world, she no longer had any attachments.
Her grandfather was gone. Her Master had ultimately been buried in Qingshan City. And Wang Ruyi—the one she had once thought was an evil woman—was no longer around either...
All her attachments had vanished without a trace.
She did not even know where her home was.
Nor did she know what she was supposed to keep moving forward for.
Confusion flooded her heart. The sheer powerlessness of defeat left her feeling utterly exhausted.
At this moment, she felt like nothing more than an empty husk, dragging her flesh and bones forward while her insides remained hollow.
The further she walked, the more adrift she felt.
She suddenly stopped in her tracks and glanced to the side, only to realize that, at some unknown point, she had wandered back onto the city wall.
She had spent a long time here in the past.
Along the sides of the wall, there were people curled up asleep, a Sword resting close by their sides—these were the wandering souls of the jianghu. There were also soldiers standing tall along the battlements, keeping a vigilant watch for any disturbance outside.
She had once been just like them, sleeping on this wall, standing on this wall...
Her gaze drifted toward the wilderness outside the city. A demon uprising had just passed. People were gathering the remains of the fallen, dragging them back one by one, though most had been gnawed upon by demons, their limbs torn away.
The battles she had seen in the past had been far, far more tragic than this.
Yu Youyu took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
The wind caught a Strand of Hair at her temples.
Standing atop the city gate, she murmured to herself.
'Where should I go...'
