Chen Changsheng instantly snapped back to his senses.
"It can't be..."
His entire body began to tremble. His hands and feet went cold, shaking uncontrollably.
"It couldn't be..."
Chen Changsheng swallowed hard, rejecting the thought over and over.
Yet the scene he had just witnessed seemed to foreshadow everything that had happened in the past.
Chen Changsheng took a deep breath, his thoughts falling into chaos.
Everything he had seen and everything he knew seemed to point toward his origins.
It pointed to what this world had once been like, why there was a curse, and why such changes had occurred.
Chen Changsheng stood frozen in place, suddenly uttering a single sentence.
...
Manyue was looking at that book she seemed to never tire of reading.
Everything, absolutely everything, made sense now!
The next moment, Chen Changsheng opened his eyes.
"It seems..."
"You know."
Hearing this, Manyue stood up, losing her usual calm.
Chen Changsheng did not answer her. Instead, he demanded, "I want to know my origins!!"
Why did the Art of Imperial Decree fail to answer the people of the world, yet he, Chen Changsheng, could gain the aid of heaven and earth—summoning wind and rain at will, commanding them to come and go? The same was true for those ancient runic characters. They formed a fallen Divine Ability that others struggled to draw true power from, yet in his hands, it shined with dazzling brilliance.
She paused for a moment and asked, "Should I know?"
Manyue paused, setting down her book to ask, "The Dream Method succeeded?"
Her gaze suddenly turned toward Chen Changsheng, who had remained as calm as ever.
Chen Changsheng's gaze met hers.
"If that is truly the case!"
Chen Changsheng said, "I saw some things, and it feels like I've finally understood..."
Anxious and restless, Chen Changsheng wanted to rush out right now to demand an explanation.
"The Demon Sovereign... The Demon Sovereign definitely knows."
"Everything makes sense now!"
Chen Changsheng stared intently at her, saying, "You and the Demon Sovereign both clearly know."
He took a step forward and said, "You aren't a part of the original Heavenly Dao, are you?"
Manyue froze upon hearing this.
She sat down and said, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Chen Changsheng said, "When chaos first parted and all creation was born, the heavens had no master."
Manyue's expression changed repeatedly at these words.
"A cultivator merging with the Dao, proving their Dao for all eternity to become the Heavenly Dao."
Chen Changsheng continued, "But at the very last moment, he lacked a certain something. The Heavenly Dao is without emotion, yet he had emotion!!"
"You are not that original person."
Chen Changsheng looked at her and said, "You are a latecomer! Just like that original person, you reached the final step. But you lacked the resolve to sever your seven emotions. You had your misgivings, so you simply hid your feelings away and took that resolute step forward anyway. As a result, you failed to comprehend the entirety of the three thousand Great Daos and only attained the path of Reincarnation!!"
"Enough!!"
Manyue suddenly stood up, interrupting Chen Changsheng.
She took a deep breath, looking at Chen Changsheng as she said, "What nonsense are you babbling? It isn't like that. It isn't like what you're saying at all."
Chen Changsheng stepped forward, demanding, "Who exactly are you?!"
Manyue opened her mouth, but in a mere instant, the imposing aura she had when she interrupted him vanished.
The next moment, her figure vanished from the spot.
Manyue chose to run away from it all.
She was unwilling to face Chen Changsheng's accusations. It was as if he were digging up everything from the past and laying it out before her, forcing her to remember. She refused to endure that.
"Do you not dare to face it?"
Chen Changsheng asked, his gaze turned toward the sky of the Underworld, but he received only absolute silence in response.
But Chen Changsheng had already guessed who this person was.
All of this could be traced back.
Chen Changsheng calmed down. He withdrew his gaze and finally said only one thing.
"This Chen will come back to ask you again."
Chen Changsheng turned around, his gaze falling upon the profound Gate of Reincarnation.
Now, he was going to retrieve his physical body.
That body which had been stolen away for many years.
The Demon Sovereign waited within Reincarnation to awaken.
This was everything that this body had to endure—cycles of Reincarnation every three years. To the Demon Sovereign, this was something he had long since grown accustomed to.
In his early years, he had left his own dreams within Reincarnation. Using this method, he allowed himself to see, feel, and hear.
This was also the origin of the Dream Method.
And it was the very origin of the Divine Edict of All Gods.
Chen Changsheng's soul consciousness sat cross-legged here, quietly waiting for the Demon Sovereign to place a game piece. He said, "After taking a trip outside, has the Demon Sovereign still not found the answer?"
Holding a game piece in his hand, the Demon Sovereign broke off his train of thought and looked up at Chen Changsheng in front of him.
He shook his head and said, "This truly is a brilliant move."
The Demon Sovereign let out a breath and added, "But the affairs of this world are not like a game of chess. A single game of chess cannot represent anything."
Chen Changsheng's divine sense suddenly paused, but a smile soon appeared on his face.
This left the Demon Sovereign somewhat confused, and he asked, "What are you laughing at?"
"The game has begun."
"The person I have been waiting for has arrived."
Chen Changsheng's divine sense stated.
Then, under the Demon Sovereign's watchful gaze, he transformed into a wisp of azure light and drifted away.
The Demon Sovereign stared blankly for a moment.
Immediately after, the wind and clouds in this stretch of heaven and earth suddenly changed color.
The surrounding scenery grew dim.
When the Demon Sovereign looked up, he saw that wisp of azure light fall into someone's palm. Following that palm, it burrowed straight into their Sea of Consciousness.
"Demon Sovereign."
Chen Changsheng looked at that person and said, "I trust you have been well since we last met!"
Seeing this, the Demon Sovereign suddenly snapped back to reality.
He looked bewildered for a moment before bursting into laughter.
The Demon Sovereign spoke up, "Not bad. You finally look the part!"
Chen Changsheng waved his hand, and the scene before them shifted once more.
A chessboard materialized beneath their feet, revealing a nineteen-line grid before their eyes.
The Demon Sovereign was taken aback and said, "Nineteen lines?"
"Is there a problem with that?" Chen Changsheng asked.
The Demon Sovereign chuckled, saying, "With nineteen lines, you have even less chance of winning."
He continued, "I'm just curious. What makes you so confident that you dare to confront me directly again? How long has it been since your last lesson, and you've already forgotten?"
Chen Changsheng raised his hand and placed down a black piece.
In an instant, that black piece transformed into a massive Kun, soaring upward with a terrifying momentum.
Seeing this, the Demon Sovereign frowned slightly, murmuring, "Kun..."
He paused for a moment and looked toward Chen Changsheng.
"The Classic of Mountains and Seas?"
Chen Changsheng looked at him and said, "Demon Sovereign, it's your turn to play."
The Demon Sovereign paused, his expression suddenly shifting.
He stared at Chen Changsheng, growing slightly hesitant.
Just this single piece had instantly thrown the Demon Sovereign for a loss; this had already exceeded his expectations.
It was as if he could already foresee the outcome.
