Xie Huan looked at the drifting snow in the sky.

The snowflakes fell softly; as he reached out, they landed in his palm.

"Snow in June..."

Xie Huan fell into a brief daze, faintly sensing the ethereal Sword Intent within the swirling snow.

He stared blankly until a nearby court lady draped a cloak over his shoulders.

"Your Majesty, the wind is cold. Be careful not to catch a chill."

Xie Huan snapped back to reality and asked, "Has the general caught that intruder?"

The court lady replied, "No news has come back yet."

A group of Jinwu Guards stood watch outside the Imperial Study, protecting His Majesty's safety at all times.

"Report!"

"Your Majesty, the intruder is no mortal! The general barely exchanged a single move before... before he was defeated!"

Xie Huan paused. "Han Zhongjie was defeated?"

He said, "Doesn't he slay demons and trample the jianghu? How could he lose..."

The Jinwu Guard opened his mouth, stammering, "Your Majesty, that intruder... that intruder..."

"With a single sword strike, he summoned snow from the heavens! Sword Qi runs rampant, and beneath that Sword Intent, the general was completely unable to move an inch!"

Hearing this, Xie Huan understood.

He asked, "Where is the general? Is he still alive?"

The Jinwu Guard hesitated before answering, "The intruder did not harm the general."

Xie Huan nodded slightly, then tore off his cloak. "Lead the way! I want to see this intruder for myself!"

"Your Majesty, you must not!"

"Your Majesty!"

Both the Jinwu Guard and the court ladies panicked, rushing to stop him.

"Shut up!"

Xie Huan snapped coldly. Ignoring the people in front of him, he strode forward into the howling wind and snow.

"Protect His Majesty!"

A swarm of Jinwu Guards hurried to keep up.

Xie Huan walked straight ahead, trailed by a massive contingent of Jinwu Guards. His eyes were perfectly calm. He did not make this trip out of boldness, but simply because he did not care about his own life or death.

In fact, he often thought that dying to end it all might just be the best solution.

Xie Huan arrived at the Library Pavilion. Gazing into the distance, he saw the great general standing before the Jinwu Guards, who were all hesitating beside him.

"His Majesty has arrived!"

Han Zhongjie froze the moment he heard those words.

"Protect His Majesty!"

Han Zhongjie hurriedly raised his Horse Lance, throwing himself directly in front of Xie Huan to act as a shield.

Xie Huan glanced at him and asked, "General, why are you blocking my way?"

Han Zhongjie replied, "Your Majesty, you cannot go any further!"

Xie Huan gave him a look, then let his gaze drift past the man to the figure standing far away in front of the Library Pavilion.

"Is that the intruder?"

Xie Huan asked.

Han Zhongjie nodded. "Your Majesty, this man possesses profound Dao Cultivation and is a master of sword arts. He is not someone ordinary forces can handle."

"What is his name?"

"He claims to be a wandering warlock. He goes by the name Chen Changsheng."

"Chen Changsheng..."

Xie Huan fell into a daze upon hearing this, as if suddenly remembering something.

He had heard this name before—and more than once.

During idle chats, he had heard Tong Nianyi speak of a Mister Chen. Later, while reviewing past events, he learned that Commandery Princess Ruyi was this Mister's niece. It seemed like an unremarkable name, yet it felt omnipresent; traces of this man could always be found woven through various affairs.

"General, please step aside."

"Your Majesty..."

"Move!"

Han Zhongjie frowned. "Your Majesty, I must prioritize your safety above all else. Forgive me, but I cannot obey!"

Xie Huan kicked him and snapped, "Out of all the military officials, you are the most stubborn!"

Han Zhongjie did not make a sound.

Xie Huan sighed helplessly and turned his gaze toward Chen Changsheng in the distance.

An old eunuch's heart skipped a beat. Feeling a bit frightened, he muttered, "This is bad. Even His Majesty has arrived."

Chen Changsheng patted his shoulder and said, "Relax."

The old eunuch's hands trembled. "What do we do? How am I supposed to survive in the palace after this?"

"Are you really that reluctant to leave this place?"

"A little..."

Chen Changsheng smiled helplessly. "Very well. Then later, This Chen will plead with this emperor and get you the position of head steward of the Directorate of Internal Affairs. How about that?"

"No, no. It's better for me to just honestly watch over the Library Pavilion."

"No ambition."

"You're no different."

Chen Changsheng shook his head slightly and said, "I'm going to take a look at this Majesty."

With that, he stepped forward and descended the stairs.

The Jinwu Guards instantly tensed up at Chen Changsheng's movement.

The clatter of armor and weapons startled Han Zhongjie. He quickly turned his head and raised his Horse Lance.

"Step back! Don't come any closer!"

Chen Changsheng looked at Han Zhongjie. "General, This Chen isn't going to do anything. I'm just taking a look."

Han Zhongjie's palms were sweating. He hurriedly said to Xie Huan behind him, "Your Majesty, you must leave quickly! Do not stay here! Against this man, I cannot guarantee your safety!"

To his surprise, Xie Huan took advantage of his distraction to step out, moving right in front of Han Zhongjie.

"So you are Chen Changsheng."

"Your Majesty!!"

Han Zhongjie cried out, but Xie Huan held him back.

Xie Huan strode forward, looking at Chen Changsheng. "You were curious about what I looked like. Have you seen enough now?"

Chen Changsheng gave him a glance and said, "You don't look like this."

Xie Huan froze, suddenly at a loss for how to reply.

'He knows?'

'Or did he see through it?'

Chen Changsheng said, "This Chen has a junior who is well-acquainted with you. Her surname is Tong."

In that moment, Xie Huan was certain. This man truly knew everything.

Taking a deep breath, he asked, "Then what did Mister Chen come here for?"

Chen Changsheng replied, "This Chen came to read books. I felt unhappy in my heart, so I wanted to stir up some trouble. But I didn't get much out of it. This general is a loyal and righteous man of the state; it would not be good for This Chen to kill him."

"Then who do you want to kill?"

"I don't know yet."

Chen Changsheng paused and looked at Xie Huan, abruptly changing the subject. "Is it easy being the emperor?"

Xie Huan stared blankly again. He shook his head and said, "Being the emperor is the hardest thing in the world."

"Indeed."

Chen Changsheng nodded slightly. "The few This Chen has known have all said the same."

Xie Huan opened his mouth to ask, "Can I still turn back?"

Chen Changsheng thought about it for a moment before answering, "Perhaps not."

Hearing those words, Xie Huan let out a long sigh.

His gaze grew complicated as a sense of helplessness suddenly surged into his heart.

Listening to His Majesty's words, Han Zhongjie was somewhat confused.

But after Xie Huan's brief silence, Han Zhongjie heard a sentence that made his eyes widen and his entire body tremble.

He only heard Xie Huan say, "Mister Chen, you might as well draw your sword and kill me."

Chen Changsheng was taken aback.

In that instant, Han Zhongjie lunged forward, throwing his body in front of Xie Huan.

"Your Majesty, what are you saying!?"

Shielding Xie Huan, Han Zhongjie glared at Chen Changsheng, his eyes full of blazing vigilance.
