Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1342: I Am Always Changing

Chen Changsheng thought for a moment, but shook his head. "Your granduncle isn't all that incredible."

"Huh?"

"Compared to your Big Sister," Chen Changsheng said, "This Chen never traveled across this entire world and the whole jianghu like she did. Nor did I ever press forward despite knowing the path ahead was insurmountable. This Chen lacks your Big Sister's spirit of marching on even if millions stand against her. I am even less comparable to your aunt. Though Hong Jin encountered few strokes of fortune, her grasp of love, hate, gratitude, and vengeance was crystal clear. She loved wine—loved it as much as her own life. This Chen also likes wine, but halfway through my cup, I turned to drink tea instead. My heart is nowhere near as resolute as theirs. I am always changing."

Xuanji smacked her lips. A bit tipsy, she mumbled, "Mmm, did granduncle misunderstand me?"

Chen Changsheng shook his head and did not speak.

Sensing the shift in the atmosphere, Xuanji raised her wine jar. "Ah, why think so much? Drink, drink!"

Chen Changsheng smiled and played along. The two raised their wine jars and drank freely to the sky. Wine spilled from the corners of their mouths and soaked their clothes as they drank themselves into a stupor.

Early the next morning, the servants found Commandery Princess Xuanji under a tree within the manor.

The commandery princess reeked of alcohol, entirely unconscious from her stupor.

He took the Taiqing Sword and departed from this place.

He was very fond of Xuanji's temperament, which was practically identical to Ruyi's. But he, Chen Changsheng, was no longer someone who could linger in one place for long.

When Xuanji woke up, it was already the afternoon.

The sky was a hazy gray, and a shower had just passed.

She asked the steward, yet heard no mention of Granduncle Chen from him.

"Granduncle left?"

Xuanji felt a little dazed. Thinking back on yesterday, she could only remember being blackout drunk.

It felt as though she had just lived through a dream.

...

Carrying the Taiqing Sword, Chen Changsheng headed north.

He intended to lay down a formation node in the northern lands to connect the north and the south.

The northern lands were desolate. The further north he went, the colder it became.

The biting chill swept over him in waves, cold enough to make a man shiver continuously. Yet, there were no signs of the locust plague wreaking havoc here. Simply because this climate was unsuitable for locusts, the north had managed to escape the disaster.

Chen Changsheng glanced back. He had already crossed countless mountains, and before him stood that towering peak that separated two domains.

One was the Mortal World, and behind it lay the Yuanshan Demon Land forged by the Fox Lord.

Chen Changsheng stepped onto those endless snowy mountains.

At the mountain's peak, a figure seemed to have been waiting for a long time.

Yu Die watched the green-robed Mister ascend the mountain and bowed respectfully. "Yu Die greets Mister."

Chen Changsheng looked at her. "Have you been here this whole time?"

"Yes," Yu Die replied. "The Mortal World lies before me, and the demon land lies behind. They are completely separated by this unbroken stretch of snowy mountains."

Chen Changsheng exhaled softly and said, "It's a bit too desolate up here."

Yu Die paused, then smiled. "It's alright."

Chen Changsheng drew out the Taiqing Sword and said, "A locust plague has erupted in the Mortal World, and it has reached an unmanageable state. This Chen intends to set up a grand formation to eradicate it. I need to borrow this place for a formation node. It shouldn't hinder your Cultivation, right?"

Yu Die smiled. "How could it? This place was created by Mister, so naturally, it is yours to command."

"Thank you."

Chen Changsheng drew the blade from its scabbard, and the baleful aura within the Taiqing Sword instantly spilled out.

Chen Changsheng raised his hand, tracing three ancient runic characters to suppress it.

The baleful aura was instantly reined in.

He warned the Taiqing Sword, "Behave!"

The Taiqing Sword trembled slightly before quickly settling down.

Chen Changsheng plunged the sword into the snowy peak. Channeling his Magical Power to his fingertips, he formed characters in the air, sketching out a formation diagram.

"Mister has wondrous methods. Your attainments in the Dao of ancient characters are quite profound."

Chen Changsheng replied, "It's merely the Heavenly Dao showing favor, allowing me to borrow a bit of its strength."

Yu Die asked, "Mister, what about that little monk who came with you last time?"

Chen Changsheng paused for a moment. "Him? I don't know where he went. He was always someone without a clear destination."

"Is that so..."

Chen Changsheng looked at her and asked, "Did he ever come looking for you later on?"

"He never came back." Yu Die shook her head. "That little monk was far from ordinary. The feeling he gave me was very different—a bit strange, though I can't quite put my finger on why."

Chen Changsheng said, "Perhaps the two of you simply share a certain affinity."

Yu Die smiled. "How could that be? Yu Die is nothing more than a plum tree guarding the mountain. How could I ever walk the same path as someone wandering blindly toward the future?"

"Perhaps."

Chen Changsheng didn't know the exact details either, nor did he mind.

With the formation set, he sat down on a snowdrift.

Beneath the heavy snowfall, all surrounding noise was cut off. There was only the howling wind and sweeping snow. Yet, in this exact moment, the voice in his heart was incredibly clear—seemingly loud, but simultaneously engulfed in an absolute, profound silence.

Chen Changsheng took a deep breath, but a flurry of snow flew into his mouth, making him choke and cough.

"Mister," Yu Die said, "the driving snow here is as sharp as a saber and sword. Please be careful."

"It's fine," Chen Changsheng replied. "At least it's quiet."

Yu Die paused. "Is it very noisy out there?"

"You could call it noisy," Chen Changsheng said. "Mostly, it's just a mess of complicated matters and chaotic people."

Yu Die couldn't imagine it; she had never stepped foot outside this place.

"Actually, you don't have to stand guard here," Chen Changsheng said.

"I know."

Yu Die smiled warmly. "Mister is magnanimous. Back when you planted me here, you said I could leave if I wished or stay if I pleased. But this is my home, and I don't want to leave."

She hadn't interacted with many people, much less known what the outside world looked like. Because of that, she didn't even understand the concept of loneliness. From the very beginning until now, it had always been just her.

Chen Changsheng looked at her and said, "Sometimes, not knowing isn't necessarily a bad thing."

Chen Changsheng stood up. "This Chen will be taking his leave."

"I'll see Mister off."

"No need for the trouble. This Chen will depart on his sword; I still have a long way to travel."

"Then I wish Mister a safe journey."

"Mn."

Chen Changsheng left. Sitting atop the snowy peak, Yu Die's gaze pierced through the howling blizzard as she gazed out toward the distant Mortal World.

She couldn't see it clearly, but she found it noisy all the same.

...

Yellow sand filled the sky.

This, too, was a border region. Out in this yellow sand, life was a rare sight. The wind and sand swept across an incomparably arid wasteland.

Chen Changsheng arrived and gazed into the distance. Far off on the horizon, a towering snowy mountain stood tall.

High upon that snowy peak sat what appeared to be a temple. Though veiled by clouds, it shone brilliantly in the light.

Chen Changsheng walked toward that temple.

Inside the temple, monks were chanting Buddhist scriptures. Yet, the one preaching the Dharma at the front was someone both familiar and foreign.

The Venerable One stepped down from the dais and looked toward the green-robed Mister.

The buddha child bowed and called out, "Teacher."

Chen Changsheng looked at him. After so many years apart, the buddha child seemed to have aged significantly. He was no longer the Feng Feiyu trapped within the spirit cage all those years ago; he was now the buddha child, the Venerable One of the Buddhist Schools.

"You've grown old."
