Resting in a tree outside the city, Chen Changsheng suddenly opened his eyes.
In an instant, his gaze turned toward Shangjing City.
"Killing intent?"
This killing intent was incredibly familiar.
The memory suddenly came back to him. Taking to the air, he located the source of the radiating killing intent in the blink of an eye.
It was the Commandery Princess Manor.
After a moment of thought, he quietly slipped into the estate.
He stopped outside the door of a room.
He watched as Xuanji stepped out of the room, a sword in her hand.
Unfortunately, the scabbard concealed the sword's true appearance.
Studying it from every angle, Xuanji couldn't see anything extraordinary about it—save for the bloody, malefic energy that had suddenly pulsed from it a moment ago.
After some hesitation, her curiosity ultimately won out, and the urge to draw the sword once more took hold.
Xuanji gripped the hilt, just about to pull the blade from its sheath.
But suddenly, a figure flashed past. In the next moment, a hand firmly pressed the partially drawn blade back into its scabbard.
"!!"
Startled, Xuanji hurriedly backed away.
"Who's there?!"
Xuanji stared at the person in front of her.
Chen Changsheng met her gaze and said, "It would be best if you didn't draw that sword."
Xuanji froze. Under the moonlight, she got a clear look at the man's face and clothes.
She couldn't help but feel a momentary daze.
A green scholar's robe?
But that young face left Xuanji feeling a bit bewildered.
"Are you..."
"Granduncle Chen?"
Hearing this title, Chen Changsheng was also taken aback, seemingly not expecting to have such a high seniority.
Thinking it over, it didn't seem wrong. Chen Changsheng said, "Counting the generations, This Chen is indeed your granduncle."
"You really are Granduncle?!"
Xuanji let down her guard a little and asked, "Granduncle, you... you are so young."
Chen Changsheng smiled helplessly. "What kind of a thing is that to say..."
Xuanji fetched some fine wine from the storehouse.
She said to Chen Changsheng, "Granduncle, Big Sister said you used to love drinking. Your grandniece asked His Majesty the Emperor for some good wine a while back. Quickly, have a taste."
Chen Changsheng didn't stand on ceremony. He unsealed a jar and took a sip.
His eyes immediately lit up. "Good wine!"
Xuanji smiled. "Right?"
Chen Changsheng looked at her and asked, "You like to drink?"
Xuanji nodded. "I do. Big Sister and Second Sister both love drinking, especially Big Sister. She's always getting dead drunk. When I was little, she would even force me to drink when she was intoxicated."
Chen Changsheng didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Your Big Sister is a bit too free-spirited."
"Yeah."
Xuanji nodded. "In the past, Big Sister was the most mischievous, and Second Sister would twist her ear to teach her a lesson."
Listening to this, Chen Changsheng's thoughts drifted far away.
He said, "Your Big Sister had a stubborn personality even when she was a child."
Xuanji blinked at his words and asked, "When did Granduncle first meet Big Sister?"
"How old was she again..."
Chen Changsheng pondered for a moment before saying, "Five years old. Yes, it seems it was right around then."
Xuanji was confused at first, but she quickly realized her granduncle was talking about Big Sister's age. Growing curious, she asked, "Then how old is Granduncle this year?"
Being asked this question made Chen Changsheng pause.
He shook his head and said, "I've forgotten. Around a hundred and ten years old or so, perhaps."
In truth, he couldn't even clearly remember when he had come to this world anymore.
It was something from a very long time ago.
"Granduncle really looks so young."
Xuanji took a sip of wine and said, "I've seen quite a few Immortal Practitioners, but none of them are still this young after over a hundred years like Granduncle."
Chen Changsheng chuckled. "Is it possible that it's an Illusory Veil?"
"Granduncle, don't underestimate me. I learned my skills from the Priest of Quanshan. I can still tell whether it's an Illusory Veil or not."
"Is that so?"
Chen Changsheng thought for a moment, then raised a hand and brushed it over his face.
"Look again?"
Xuanji turned her head back, only to see that the youthful face from a moment ago had suddenly aged considerably.
Seeing this, Xuanji formed a hand seal and tapped the space between her eyebrows.
Suddenly, a bright light shone in her eyes.
Xuanji looked again, but she froze.
"Eh?"
Chen Changsheng couldn't help but laugh out loud. "How about it? You can't see through it, can you?"
Refusing to believe it, Xuanji tried again, but she still couldn't spot a single flaw.
"How did you do that?"
Xuanji asked curiously.
"Do you want to learn?" Chen Changsheng asked with a smile.
Xuanji nodded. She was particularly interested in these Arts and Techniques.
"Then Granduncle will teach you right now."
Xuanji's temperament was very similar to Ruyi's.
She was an eccentric and lively girl, always harboring a unique curiosity toward certain things. Just like with the Taiqing Sword—she knew perfectly well the blade was somewhat malefic, but she refused to be deterred, stubbornly insisting on pulling it out for another look.
Just like her Big Sister, she wouldn't shed a tear until she saw the coffin.
The old and the young drank their wine, chatting happily.
"Hehe."
Xuanji had quite the talent for Divine Abilities and Arts and Techniques. She learned the spell immediately, shifting this way and that before transforming into her granduncle's appearance in a rather convincing imitation.
"Fun."
Xuanji smiled and took another sip of wine.
Seeing her flushed cheeks, making her look as if she were already drunk, Chen Changsheng said, "The way you drink is actually rather like Hong Jin."
"Aunt Hong Jin?"
"Yes."
Xuanji smacked her lips and said, "The first time I drank wine, I was tricked by Aunt Hong Jin. She told me it was sweet and tasty, but I ended up sleeping for three days straight. Aunt Hong Jin was chased and beaten by Big Sister for several days because of that."
Hearing this, Chen Changsheng couldn't help but laugh. "No wonder."
No wonder she had traces of Yu Hongjin in her.
He said, "Speaking of wine, this Aunt Hong Jin of yours is quite accomplished. In her early years, she was so greedy for wine that she tasted almost every kind there was, and eventually learned the craft of brewing herself. She has quite a bit of fine wine stashed away. They are all her precious treasures; she even has to bring them along whenever she travels."
Xuanji thought for a moment and murmured, "I haven't seen Aunt Hong Jin in a long time either."
Chen Changsheng said, "She went south."
"South? Aren't there demons over there?"
"Your Aunt Hong Jin is a spirit of the lotus pond who assumed a human form through the body of a red fish. That lotus pond is your Aunt Hong Jin's lifeblood. With demons causing chaos in the Southern Domain, she naturally had to return to keep an eye on things."
"Won't it be very dangerous?"
Chen Changsheng paused for a moment before shaking his head. "Your Aunt Hong Jin's Dao Cultivation is indeed not deep, but if she truly gets ruthless, generally no one would dare offend her."
That Heavenly Dao karmic retribution was no joke.
Back when Mo Yuan took that hit, he was left weakened for a long time and nearly had his foundation destroyed, let alone these demons of the Southern Domain Hongyuan Realm.
"She's that amazing?"
"Of course."
Chen Changsheng took a sip of wine. Speaking of these things, he couldn't help but think of Oulianfang. The beauty of Huaixu in that land of blooming lotus flowers left a lingering aftertaste.
Curious, Xuanji asked, "Then what about you, Granduncle? How amazing are you?"
