The two of them sat in the ruined temple, staring each other down.

Chen Changsheng sighed softly. "You lack the heart to kill me, yet you insist on keeping me tied up. Tell me, what exactly are you after?"

Wei Shiyu stepped forward and grabbed him by the collar. "And what about you sending a sword chasing after me? How do we settle that?"

Chen Changsheng gave him a look. "Did This Chen's sword harm even a hair on your head?"

He looked at Wei Shiyu with a faint smile.

Wei Shiyu froze. He naturally understood what had really happened with that sword. Thinking back on it, he just felt incredibly stupid for letting a single weapon scare him into fleeing for hundreds of miles.

Before they knew it, dawn had broken.

As Wei Shiyu thought about it, a sudden sense of relief washed over him.

"Forget it, forget it..."

"Get lost, just get lost..."

Wei Shiyu raised a hand, undoing the Immortal-Binding Rope around Chen Changsheng.

Chen Changsheng glanced at him, finding the thief's rapid shifts in mood rather amusing.

A moment ago he wanted to kill him, and now he was letting him go.

"You really are an inexplicable person."

Chen Changsheng stood up and stretched his stiff joints. He looked at Wei Shiyu. "That Immortal-Binding Rope of yours isn't bad."

Wei Shiyu stiffened, hurriedly tucking the Immortal-Binding Rope away.

Chen Changsheng chuckled. "I don't want yours."

He held out a hand. "Just return what's mine."

"What's yours?" Wei Shiyu asked.

"Stop pretending."

Wei Shiyu flicked his wrist. The Immortal-Binding Rope instantly shot out, binding Chen Changsheng all over again.

"You're still barking at me? You should be grateful I spared your life. What's wrong with me collecting a little interest?"

Chen Changsheng looked at him. "You forget the pain the moment the scar heals."

Wei Shiyu paused, then shot back, "Anything that falls into my hands belongs to me."

Chen Changsheng didn't bother arguing.

With a mere lift of his hand, the Immortal-Binding Rope suddenly loosened.

In the blink of an eye, it fell right into his grasp.

Wei Shiyu turned pale with shock. He tried to summon the rope back, only to find it completely unresponsive to his commands.

"Crap!"

Panic gripped him, and he spun around to run.

But Chen Changsheng caught him by the back of his collar.

"Why are you running?"

Wei Shiyu flared with anger, but then let out a self-deprecating laugh.

"To think I prided myself on my cleverness, yet you played me like a fiddle. You were never afraid of this Immortal-Binding Rope at all. You spent the entire night treating me like an idiot for your own amusement."

Chen Changsheng raised his hand, and the Immortal-Binding Rope promptly bound the thief securely.

"It's a decent magical treasure, but unfortunately, you don't know how to use it," Chen Changsheng said. "It must have taken you quite a bit of effort to steal it."

Wei Shiyu shook his head, a hint of despair in his eyes.

"Kill me, carve me up, do whatever you want."

He muttered, "Just don't humiliate me any further."

"You've been following This Chen for half a month, and you only recently found an opportunity," Chen Changsheng said. "You really are quite cautious. This Immortal-Binding Rope is a fine item too. Had This Chen not been on guard, you might have actually succeeded. But who could have imagined that after biding your time for so many days, you'd turn out to be so soft-hearted?"

Wei Shiyu flushed red to the ears. "Say no more!"

"This Chen is genuinely wondering," Chen Changsheng asked. "Why didn't you dare to kill me?"

Wei Shiyu stayed silent.

"Fine," Chen Changsheng said. "Then This Chen will just toss you into the mountains. Whether you starve to death or get eaten by wild beasts..."

"I've never killed anyone."

Chen Changsheng had considered several possibilities, but that was the one answer he hadn't expected.

The world was vast. Anyone capable of roaming freely through it possessed some measure of skill, and whose hands were entirely clean of blood? It was exactly like the jianghu—once you stepped into the jianghu, you lost all control over your own fate.

Wei Shiyu offered a bitter smile. "You don't need to look at me like that. I really have never killed anyone. I am merely a thief, not a bandit."

"That is rather surprising."

Chen Changsheng remarked. After a moment of thought, he undid the Immortal-Binding Rope.

Wei Shiyu instantly felt the pressure lift.

He looked at Chen Changsheng. "What is the meaning of this?"

"Return the Wine Gourd to This Chen, and you can leave."

Wei Shiyu opened his mouth to speak, but thought better of it. He took out the Wine Gourd and handed it over.

Chen Changsheng accepted it, popped the cork, and took a swig.

"I'm really leaving now," Wei Shiyu said.

Chen Changsheng nodded. "What, do you not want to live?"

Wei Shiyu opened his mouth again, but ultimately swallowed his words. He turned and sprinted away.

Chen Changsheng didn't chase him. In a flash, Wei Shiyu had vanished from sight.

Truthfully, Chen Changsheng had never met someone so eccentric. He had the ruthless intent, but lacked the ruthless heart. On the surface, he acted like he feared nothing, but deep down, he was incredibly soft.

Unexpectedly, Wei Shiyu hadn't made it very far before he turned right back around.

"What are you doing back here?"

"The Immortal-Binding Rope."

Wei Shiyu hesitated before explaining, "That item is a treasure of Lingyue Immortal Island. Though I managed to steal it, the cultivators of Lingyue Immortal Island tracked me down using the soul imprint on the rope. If I can't produce the Immortal-Binding Rope when they find me, I'll truly be doomed."

Chen Changsheng was momentarily stunned. "You certainly have some nerve. Lingyue Immortal Island is one of the top major Immortal Sects in the Cultivation World, and you actually dared to steal from them."

Wei Shiyu remained silent. He had simply figured that ordinary Dharma Instruments wouldn't be able to handle Chen Changsheng at all, so he had taken a massive risk. He just never expected the soul imprint left on the Dharma Instrument to be so stubborn; it was still stamped onto his body, entirely refusing to fade.

"Even if you return it, they won't let you off easily," Chen Changsheng pointed out. "With that soul imprint branded onto you, they will catch you no matter where you run."

"I know."

Wei Shiyu said, "I have my own ways of getting away."

Chen Changsheng tossed the Immortal-Binding Rope over to him.

Wei Shiyu caught it, pausing briefly before saying, "Thank you."

After a moment's thought, he pulled something from his pocket and threw it back.

Chen Changsheng caught it, only to find it was a bag of silver taels.

He stared in surprise, realizing it was his own money pouch. It had been stored safely within his Cosmos Within the Sleeve the entire time, and he hadn't taken it out once.

After all, Broken Silver was rarely used in the Cultivation World.

Chen Changsheng hadn't even noticed the money pouch was missing. From beginning to end, he had assumed he had only lost the gourd.

Wei Shiyu hurried away.

"This thief..."

Chen Changsheng found the entire exchange amusing. After a moment's thought, he raised his hand and summoned a strand of Sword Qi, sending it chasing after Wei Shiyu.

Wei Shiyu snapped back to his senses, only to see a streak of Sword Qi sweeping toward him.

In an instant, it sank into his body.

Wei Shiyu froze. A second later, he felt the soul imprint on his body being utterly shredded by the Sword Qi. Checking his internal state, he found nothing of the mark remaining.

Dazed, Wei Shiyu looked back.

But Chen Changsheng was no longer standing in front of the temple. It was a mystery where he had gone.

Seeing this, Wei Shiyu shouted at the top of his lungs, "Thank you!!"
