Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1379: As If Coming Alive Again

Time hurried by, and another three years passed.

Chen Changsheng returned to the Mortal World once more. His former title of Sword Immortal had long been forgotten.

In recent years, the situation had changed drastically.

First was the earlier defeat of Hongyuan Tianxia, which had forced them to hand all territory north of the Sheng River back to the Human Race.

The defensive line pushed southward, greatly boosting military morale. After years of defending against the demons, progress had finally been made, and the Mortal World gradually gained the strength to fight back.

Under these circumstances, more and more people headed south.

At this moment, the great cause truly lived up to its name.

But what truly turned the tide was that within the human dao, over the course of three years, nearly a hundred new cultivators had appeared.

What truly made people draw a sharp breath was that these cultivators all hailed from the same organization: the Heavenly Dao.

"This humble god caught a glimpse of them before. To be honest with you, Supreme Immortal, these people are very strange. They don't seem living, nor do they seem dead. They have souls, but their souls are incomplete, almost like puppets being manipulated."

The city god trembled as he recounted the events of recent years to the man before him.

"Neither living nor dead?"

Chen Changsheng furrowed his brows, falling into deep thought.

This reminded him of someone from many years ago.

Or rather, not a person, but a corpse.

Gu Jiangshi.

Speaking of which, ever since they parted ways back then, Chen Changsheng hadn't heard a single piece of news about him.

The city god before him nodded. "Indeed. Furthermore, the bloodlust clinging to these people is exceptionally heavy, as if they crawled out of a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood. It's like... like the demonic path."

Hearing this, Chen Changsheng formed a suspicion.

He snapped back to reality and said, "Thank you, city god, for clearing my doubts."

The city god shook his head repeatedly and then said, "You are too polite, Supreme Immortal. Then... Supreme Immortal, may this humble god take his leave?"

"Go on."

Chen Changsheng pondered alone for a long while. No matter how he looked at it, these people seemed very much like Gu Jiangshi.

However, for the time being, he had no idea who was manipulating them from behind the scenes.

But judging from what the city god said, they didn't seem to be doing any harm.

It was just that the organization bearing the name 'Heavenly Dao' gave off a vague sense of unease.

He had a lingering feeling that massive chaos was about to erupt in the Mortal World.

Chen Changsheng shook his head, scattering all these miscellaneous thoughts.

He stood up, left the area, and headed toward Qingshan City.

...

The Peach Orchard Outside Qingshan City was already brimming with peaches.

As it was the right season for harvesting, Aqing hired people to pick the peaches, then handed them over to a trading firm in the city to be sold in Qingshan City and nearby areas.

Over the years, Aqing had also saved quite a bit of silver taels. Although she had no use for them most of the time, in this Mortal World, lacking silver taels was absolutely unacceptable.

By the time the evening glow appeared, more than half the peaches in the Peach Orchard had been picked.

She purposely picked out three of the best ones and kept them.

She often did this, all because of a promise made years ago.

But year after year, these peaches were never given away, so she ate them herself.

Aqing sat in front of the house, looking at her soft, tender hands. After all these years, she hadn't aged a bit. Perhaps this was the benefit of Cultivation—one never grew old.

But for those who did not age, their thoughts only continued to multiply.

Just as she was lost in thought, she suddenly heard the sound of approaching footsteps.

The person walked right up to her and asked, "May I ask, Young Lady, how are these peaches sold?"

Aqing looked up, and their eyes met.

Both of them froze.

"Aqing?"

"Changsheng?"

Separated by a century, they met once again.

It was still within this Peach Grove, yet so many things had changed beyond recognition.

Even Chen Changsheng hadn't been able to recognize the woman before him at first glance.

A smile broke out on Aqing's face, and she brought out the peaches she had saved.

This year, at least, she wouldn't have to eat them herself.

Chen Changsheng had never thought there would come a day they would cross paths again. It was as if, over the long years, he had gradually forgotten this Young Lady who guarded the Peach Orchard.

"Eat a peach."

Aqing handed a peach to him.

Chen Changsheng ate the peach and asked, "I heard from a Priest of Qingxian Temple that you later went to the Cultivation World. How come you've returned to the Mortal World now?"

"Just came back to take a look."

Aqing glanced at him and said, "It hasn't been that many years."

"Hmm?"

"Probably..."

Aqing thought about it and said, "Maybe a few decades."

She shook her head but didn't say anything more.

Instead, she said, "I just wanted to see you again."

Chen Changsheng, holding the peach in his hand, felt a bit dazed. "See me?"

"Yes."

Aqing lowered her head and said, "We are old friends, aren't we? I don't really have anyone I'm familiar with in this Mortal World anymore."

As the two conversed, they talked about their respective pasts.

Aqing spoke of her time practicing Cultivation at Great Snow Mountain, and Chen Changsheng also shared his own experiences over the years. They were all just complicated, trivial matters, yet as they spoke, the two couldn't help but look at each other and smile.

"Changsheng, why haven't you changed at all?"

Aqing asked this question out of curiosity.

"Haven't you stayed the same too?" Chen Changsheng said.

Aqing shook her head and said, "Even cultivators have lifespans and will grow old. Can't you see, Changsheng, that my face has gained a few wrinkles?"

"Have you?"

"Changsheng..."

"Hmm?"

"Are you truly immortal?"

Chen Changsheng paused for a moment, then said, "Logically speaking, it can indeed be considered immortality."

Aqing looked at him but remained silent.

Chen Changsheng chuckled and said, "It's a pity my life isn't long."

The two statements seemed somewhat contradictory.

But Aqing seemed to understand something as she asked, "Is it tiring?"

"It's alright."

Chen Changsheng said, "As long as I find things to do, it's not that miserable."

"Is that so?"

Aqing looked at Chen Changsheng, her eyes brimming with heartache.

Chen Changsheng froze for a moment, only to see a teardrop roll down Aqing's cheek.

"Why are you crying?"

"It's nothing..."

Aqing shook her head, wiped away her tears, and let out a sigh.

Her gaze turned toward this Peach Orchard as she murmured, "You've been walking this whole time. Have you ever thought about stopping?"

Chen Changsheng was stunned, unsure of how to answer.

Aqing looked at him and said, "They have all left, but aren't I still here?"

Chen Changsheng's hand, holding the peach, paused.

Then he heard Aqing say, "I have been waiting for you this whole time."

Chen Changsheng felt a moment of daze, feeling as if a long stretch of years flashed before his eyes.

Aqing poured wine for Chen Changsheng.

She said, "Stop and rest for a while, Changsheng. I am still here. I have this Peach Orchard, and a house. We agreed back then that you would visit often, but you've forgotten for many years now."

Chen Changsheng looked at the cup of wine, then raised his gaze to the woman before him.

It was as if, in that very moment, the Chen Changsheng who had already died had come back to life.
