Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1465: Confrontation in the Formation

Xiao Dongxu trapped the unconscious Jiu Fengchun within the Formations.

When Jiu Fengchun awoke, he found himself surrounded by Formations and Restrictive Seals.

Panic gripped him for a moment. Looking up, he saw a figure sitting cross-legged before him, quietly meditating.

The moment Jiu Fengchun awoke, Xiao Dongxu opened his eyes.

Their eyes met. Startled, Jiu Fengchun immediately tried to flee.

But as he shot to his feet, the Binding Chains dragged against the ground with a loud clatter. He tried to wrench himself free, but the Yin-Yang Qi upon them entangled him, making it impossible to move a single step.

"There is no need to struggle," Xiao Dongxu said. "As you are now, you cannot break these Restrictive Seals."

"Who are you?!" Jiu Fengchun demanded.

"And who are you?" Xiao Dongxu replied.

After a moment, panting heavily, he gradually calmed down.

When he looked back at Xiao Dongxu, his gaze had changed.

"Can you tell me about your condition?" Xiao Dongxu asked. "You are clearly human, so why do you take on the form of a demon?"

Jiu Fengchun refused to answer. He kept his eyes locked on Xiao Dongxu, his mind racing for a way to escape.

But Xiao Dongxu's next words filled him with unease.

"You are the Taotie, aren't you?"

Jiu Fengchun's heart jolted. He furrowed his brows, glaring fiercely at the man.

"Who exactly are you?!"

"My surname is Xiao, and my courtesy name is Dongxu," he replied. "I chanced upon the rumors of the Taotie and sought it out. I never imagined that such an ancient beast truly existed in this world."

Jiu Fengchun tugged at the Binding Chains with greater force.

The Yin-Yang Qi on the chains began to fracture. A surge of Spiritual Energy erupted from Jiu Fengchun's body, so dense it was nearly tangible, hooking onto the Yin-Yang Qi.

In the span of a single breath, Jiu Fengchun inhaled the Yin-Yang Qi into his body.

Xiao Dongxu tried to manipulate the Yin-Yang Qi, but the moment Jiu Fengchun swallowed it, his connection to the energy was completely severed.

"Snap!"

The Binding Chains shattered, and Jiu Fengchun broke free.

Fortunately, Xiao Dongxu had set up another layer of Formations and Restrictive Seals, blocking his escape.

Xiao Dongxu rose to his feet. "You can even devour Yin-Yang Qi that already belongs to a master?"

Jiu Fengchun glared at him viciously.

"You had better let me out right now!"

Xiao Dongxu considered this for a moment. "Do you truly think I should let you go? On my journey here, I passed through over a dozen villages, large and small. Without exception, every inhabitant had been devoured by a demon. Not even their bones remained. Dare you claim you weren't the one who did this?"

"I assumed the Taotie fed by devouring Spiritual Veins. I never expected it would eat people as well—especially when you yourself are human."

Those words thoroughly infuriated Jiu Fengchun.

He lunged forward, forming his fingers into a sword, and slashed out a streak of sword light.

Xiao Dongxu dodged to the side, his heart giving a jolt.

"What a formidable sword art Divine Ability..."

He quickly closed the distance, weaving several streams of Yin-Yang Qi into his Divine Abilities and Daoist arts.

"Bind!"

A rope pulled taut, binding Jiu Fengchun in an instant.

Yet Jiu Fengchun merely lowered his head and tore into the rope with his teeth, snapping it instantly.

Xiao Dongxu realized he had somewhat underestimated the Taotie before him.

This creature truly could devour anything!

There was practically nothing it couldn't eat!

Jiu Fengchun charged forward, snapping his jaws at him.

Xiao Dongxu dodged continuously, deploying his Divine Abilities and Arts and Techniques to keep him at bay.

He realized that Jiu Fengchun possessed profound attainments in swordsmanship. His style even carried the shadow of a certain someone, though Xiao Dongxu had forgotten who it was.

After several exchanges, Jiu Fengchun realized that his current abilities were likely not enough to overcome this cultivator, and he began to reconsider his approach.

Xiao Dongxu took the opportunity to speak. "Can we sit down and talk? I have no intention of killing you."

"Hmph."

Jiu Fengchun let out a cold scoff. "What a joke. You clearly harbor ill intentions. Whether you kill me or not, what difference does it make?"

Xiao Dongxu sighed softly. "Perhaps I know a great deal more than you do. Not only do I know why you became the Taotie, but I also know the meaning behind the Taotie's existence."

Hearing this, Jiu Fengchun furrowed his brows.

He did not trust the man before him.

"Shall we sit and talk?" Xiao Dongxu asked.

Jiu Fengchun thought for a moment before agreeing to the request for the time being.

The two sat far apart, their eyes locked on one another.

"To speak of the Taotie, we must start from the ancient era."

Recalling the contents of the books, Xiao Dongxu slowly recounted the entire story.

As he listened, Jiu Fengchun gradually lowered his guard against the man.

He had actually known from the very beginning that this person harbored no malice. He had only been uneasy about his current situation.

"This is your origin," Xiao Dongxu said. "The Taotie descends from the heavens. It devours spiritual essence to revert to the primordial, inciting a great tribulation that transforms the world."

Jiu Fengchun remained silent, feeling somewhat bewildered.

"How can you prove..."

"...that what you're saying is true?"

Xiao Dongxu reached into his robes, retrieved three ancient books, and handed them over.

Jiu Fengchun took them and began leafing through the pages. After reading them, he gradually became convinced that the man was telling the truth.

"Will I in the future..."

"...end up in such a situation?"

Xiao Dongxu looked at him. "It is an inevitable fate. Your appearance will undoubtedly trigger a great tribulation within the Cultivation World."

Jiu Fengchun pursed his lips. "Why is it me...?"

Xiao Dongxu answered him concisely: "If it weren't you, then you simply wouldn't exist."

His appearance was not a product of nature, but the will of heaven.

Jiu Fengchun handed the three books back to him. Shaking his head, he said, "I should be the one making my own choices, rather than just doing what is written in a book."

Xiao Dongxu nodded. "I also think you should have your own choices. However, there is often little we can do about certain matters, and some destinies are simply impossible to escape."

Jiu Fengchun pressed his lips together. "Why must it be destined? Was I born into this fate, just like what's written in those three books? Am I destined to be despised by the entire world? Will I only ever run for my life, only to die a tragic death?"

Xiao Dongxu looked at him and smiled. "Actually, I don't think you will necessarily die."

Jiu Fengchun stared blankly at him.

"You have already died once," Xiao Dongxu said. "But this time around, dying won't be so easy. Your reappearance means that heaven and earth have learned their lesson from the last time. You are destined to avoid ending up as a helpless victim waiting for slaughter, as you once did."

Jiu Fengchun could not grasp his meaning.

He tightened his lips. "I just want to survive," he said. "I want to survive with a clear mind."

"But you have become a monster now," Xiao Dongxu said. "When I first saw you, what part of you still resembled a human? What part of you was clear-headed?"

Jiu Fengchun's expression darkened. He lowered his head and said nothing more.
