Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1466: Thanks for the Blessing

He often faced the world in silence. It was not that he had nothing to say, but rather that he did not know how to say it.

Throughout the years, he rarely shared his true feelings. He was like an oddity, forever out of step with this world. Among the teeming masses, he was a special existence—and more than that, one the world refused to accept.

Xiao Dongxu unsealed the Formations, no longer making things difficult for Jiu Fengchun.

Yet at this moment, Jiu Fengchun did not leave.

"Can you..."

"...help me?"

Xiao Dongxu paused at those words.

He fell silent for a moment before saying, "I can help you stop eating people."

From then on, Xiao Dongxu remained there.

As the years passed, the Spiritual Energy receded at an accelerating pace.

And the Mortal World, almost in the blink of an eye, turned into a lawless land.

In a fleeting moment, the Spiritual Energy here dwindled toward nothingness.

Many cultivators panicked and blindly fled, boarding ships bound for the outside world.

This change, however, suited Yu Youyu perfectly.

"The Spiritual Energy is fading..."

She felt that the Mortal World would finally find peace.

There would be no more cultivators running rampant, and no more people fighting endlessly over this barren land.

It would return to its former state of tranquility and calm.

Sitting on the beach, she gazed out at the boundless sea in the distance. In that moment, her mind settled into profound peace.

Behind her, Xuanji walked over, clad in a black robe.

"Are you not leaving?"

Xuanji sat down, playing with a seashell from the ground.

Yu Youyu shook her head. "This is my home."

Xuanji paused before saying, "Without Spiritual Energy, cultivators won't live long either. You still need it to sustain your Cultivation."

Yu Youyu pursed her lips. "To be a cultivator who lives a long life and watches the world pass, or to be an ordinary person who lives out a peaceful, steady life... between these two, which would you choose?"

The question silenced Xuanji.

She opened her mouth, a flicker of uncertainty crossing her face as she said, "I..."

"I don't know."

"You do know."

Yu Youyu looked at her. "You say you don't know precisely because you do know. It's because you have a choice, and that choice betrays what you currently want to do, so you simply convince yourself that you don't know."

Xuanji sighed softly at those words. She suddenly realized she was slowly beginning to understand this convoluted way of speaking.

It was all baffling logic, yet she somehow grasped it.

Propping her chin on her hand, she said, "Why do you have to expose me like that? It's really quite unsettling."

"I want you to think it through clearly."

Yu Youyu continued, "Living in this world, people face many choices. Some choices you only regret for a while, but others will make you regret them for a lifetime."

Xuanji pondered this, her mind drifting.

She pursed her lips. "I was thinking that I ultimately need to go out and see things. Even though I'd like to live an ordinary, peaceful life like a normal person, how could I bear to die without getting a clear look at the world?"

"Often, having that ability is exactly what plunges a person into conflict. Caught in the middle—falling short of the best, but better than the worst—is the most helpless state of all."

Xuanji sighed, her gaze unfocusing.

Yu Youyu said no more. The sound of the crashing waves echoed continuously in their ears.

"The tide is coming in."

"I see it."

They sat by the sea, each harboring their own thoughts.

"What about the Heavenly Dao?" Xuanji asked. "After all, you are the only one who can command them now. If these puppets, formed from yin energy, blood vigor, and malicious aura, were to lose control, the consequences would be unimaginable."

Yu Youyu paused. "They will wake up."

Xuanji froze upon hearing this.

Yu Youyu said, "From the very beginning, they have been awake and independent. They are not puppets."

Xuanji stared blankly. "What do you mean by that...?"

"Do you still not understand?"

Yu Youyu said, "They were refined from living people. Of course they have consciousness."

"Living... people..."

Xuanji's arm trembled. For a moment, she couldn't believe what she had just heard.

"You refined living people into puppets!"

Yu Youyu looked at her. "Is there something wrong with that? They did it willingly. It wasn't as if I forced them."

Xuanji pursed her lips. She simply felt that such a method was far too inhumane. Just how much torment did it take to forge such a puppet? She didn't even dare to imagine how a living person, tangled in so much malicious aura, yin energy, and blood vigor, would eventually go mad and die.

Yu Youyu said, "Even though the Mortal World has lost its Spiritual Energy, it won't necessarily be peaceful. They still need to stay here and watch over the Mortal World for me."

Xuanji pursed her lips. "Sometimes I feel like you've got it wrong. If the whole world lost its Spiritual Energy, that would be one thing. But if only the Mortal World loses it, I'm afraid it will spell a Tribulation for this place."

Yu Youyu smiled warmly. "That is why I didn't leave."

Xuanji was rendered speechless by her words.

"What exactly are you after?"

Yu Youyu thought for a moment. "Peace of mind."

She said, "Hypocritical Supreme Immortals, ignorant dynasties... there has never been true righteousness in this world. Everyone has their own motives. They say to judge a person by their actions and not their heart, because if you judge their heart, there are no good people. I simply choose to be a villain in action and a good person in heart, so everyone in this world can see it clearly."

"They've always thought I was doing the wrong thing. The ones cursing me the loudest are none other than the people of the Daoist Gate. But to my mind, using the wrong method to achieve the right end isn't necessarily a bad philosophy."

Yu Youyu scoffed. "In my earlier years, I still wanted to prove it to them, but now I've let it go. I do what I must; why should I care if they know?"

Xuanji let out a long breath and muttered, "Sister Tong also said you are a stubborn person."

"Stubborn?"

Yu Youyu thought about it and smiled. "Speaking of her, I don't think I'm nearly as stubborn as she is."

Xuanji paused, unsure of how to judge that.

She wasn't wrong, though. Sister Tong was just as stubborn.

Xuanji stood up. Looking out into the distance, she seemed to see a Flying Vessel approaching.

She said, "The tide is in. I have to go."

Yu Youyu nodded slightly. "May you have smooth sailing in the Cultivation World."

"Thanks for the blessing." Xuanji nodded with a smile.

Yu Youyu watched her gradually depart, lost in thought.

She wondered if this girl would ever come back after leaving today.
