On the 26th day of the fifth month in the eleventh year of Shuncheng.
Over the years, that little novice girl then had gained a minor name in the Jianghu. Although the fame was small, there were occasional whispers remembering her when asked about it.
‘She was a girl who played with a spear and had some skills.’
‘She often had a cat with her, quite obedient.’
‘Her spear methods were impressive, though no one knew who taught her.’
More people heard of Ruyi, but very few knew her real name; it was mostly like that, since Jianghu youths typically had no big names.
When you met, it was fate; when you met, it was the Jianghu.
In the past year or so, Ruyi roughly understood what the Jianghu was like—as fun as she imagined. She met many, many people and saw many, many things.
Just as Uncle Chen had said, it was not all about fighting everywhere; more were vague relationships that were hard to explain.
Lihua thought for a moment, looked at Ruyi before her, and said, “He probably would.”
The change was indeed quite big.
At least in Lihua’s eyes, it was so.
Ruyi used to cry back then, but now she seemed to fear nothing, maybe because she learned some skills.
“I miss Uncle Chen.”
“Lihua also misses Good Human Chen……”
Lihua sighed. Ever since it followed Ruyi out of Qingshan City, it had food one meal and none the next. That promise of one fish a day became empty words.
Ruyi was having fun, but poor Lihua missed out.
Ruyi took a bite of the baked pancake in her hand, lifted her spear, and said, “Let’s go, the road ahead is still long.”
After resting a bit, they moved forward again.
Stopping and starting along the way, they would still reach Shangjing someday.
…………
In that area of the Blood Sea, everything seen was dimly colored.
Gradually, the Black Pagoda absorbed the Devil Qi from the Demon Sword. Over time, it became clear that the Demon Sword felt much weaker.
In the end, it had done what it promised Chen Changsheng.
At a certain moment.
Grains of Sand drifted in from afar.
The Black Pagoda somehow sensed it and focused its mind toward where the grains came from.
The grains gathered and took on a human shape.
Then, it turned into a kind-faced gentleman wearing a Blue Robe.
Chen Changsheng glanced around and finally settled his gaze on the Demon Sword.
The Black Pagoda said, “You come and go like a spirit.”
Chen Changsheng smiled and said, “Do I?”
The Black Pagoda did not explain and asked, “You care so little? You tossed me here for three years without even a look.”
Chen Changsheng stepped forward calmly and said, “I am here now.”
The Black Pagoda huffed, then said, “I did all you asked. I swallowed day and night for three years—it must be enough. Don’t forget what you promised.”
Chen Changsheng looked at the Demon Sword again; the Devil Qi was indeed much weaker than before.
Chen Changsheng said, “Don’t worry.”
He raised his hand and undid the Formation Array.
With a light summon, he brought the Black Pagoda into his palm.
Seeing Chen Changsheng move forward, the Black Pagoda said, “First, release the Rune on my first layer.”
Chen Changsheng looked at it and asked, “Is this Rune so important to you?”
“Chen, you’re not backing out, are you?”
Chen Changsheng said, “I always keep my word, but I can’t do it here. Let me go out first before I undo it, okay?”
The Black Pagoda hesitated a bit; a little delay seemed fine, so it said no more.
Chen Changsheng then put it away in his sleeve.
He walked toward the Demon Sword.
This Demon Sword was a danger here.
Step by step, he reached the cliff’s edge, drawing closer to the Demon Sword.
The nearby Devil Qi swirled as if guarding against him.
Chen Changsheng raised his brows, paused, and reached out his hand.
His palm reached for the Demon Sword.
But just as it neared the handle, a sudden change occurred.
“Buzz.”
The Demon Sword trembled, and a Sword Qi flashed out, heading straight at Chen Changsheng.
Luckily, Chen Changsheng was prepared. He pulled back his hand at once and stepped back dozens of paces.
“Just as thought……”
It was not easy to take.
But then, something puzzled Chen Changsheng.
Suddenly, streams of Devil Qi flowed from the Demon Sword, gathering until it took a human shape on the cliff.
The figure made of Devil Qi grabbed the Demon Sword.
“Clang……”
The Demon Sword, sealed away for who knows how long, was pulled free.
In that moment, Devil Qi erupted from the sword, spreading like waves across the Demon Realm.
The blast pushed Chen Changsheng back several steps.
He frowned, suddenly worried.
As he raised his hand, the Yuqing Sword appeared in his grip.
Chen Changsheng’s gaze seemed to meet the shape’s, as they stared at each other.
Truly worthy of the Demon Monarch’s old blade; it could form a shape from Devil Qi to wield a sword. That alone placed it above countless Immortal Swords.
“The sword mirrors its master, carrying his power.”
Chen Changsheng murmured; the Demon Sword’s vibe felt like a god of devils descending. If the sword was like that, imagine the Summoning Demon Divine Monarch in his time.
Chen Changsheng said, “My presence disturbed you. This time, I borrow your place to borrow something. Hope the Demon Sword understands.”
The shape held the sword but ignored him. Before Chen Changsheng could go on, it raised its hand and fired a burst of Sword Qi.
Chen Changsheng saw it and swung, blocking with a dance of his sword.
The Sword Qi clashed, and another wave rippled.
“Boom……”
Dust stirred by the wind swept over white bones that lay still for miles around.
In that instant, the bones turned to powder, scattering on the ground or floating with the tremor.
Seeing this, Chen Changsheng sighed inside, thinking there was no talking this through.
But whether the Demon Sword heard or not, he had set his mind on this place.
“Ah well.”
Chen Changsheng raised his sword and began drawing in the air.
Bits of an array script rose up in positions.
The Demon Sword swung across, trying to block his formation.
Chen Changsheng held his sword before him, chanted quietly, and said, “Sword Qi unrivaled, foe-cutting and devil-slaying.”
A Golden Light covered his blade and radiated out.
The two faced off again; the shape came with the sword, closing in on Chen Changsheng.
Devil Qi suddenly spread like thin fog.
In a flash, Chen Changsheng’s sight went dim. The Devil Qi aimed at his Soul Spirit, trying to finish the fight.
But coiling “Unluckily,” Chen Changsheng was least afraid of Soul Spirit attacks.
Chanting again.
“By Heaven and Earth’s true law, Devil Qi disperse!”
Golden Light spread out, blowing away the fog.
A cold glint shone out from the Demon Sword amidst the Devil Qi, slashing at Chen Changsheng’s neck.
“Clang.”
The Yuqing Sword met it, hung in the air.
Chen Changsheng drew back his sword swiftly, then cast another slaying Devil Sword Qi at the Devil Qi shape.
