The third day of the sixth month.

Zhengyang. There was a Temple Fair that night.

In just a few short days, the Local Government had finished all preparations for the Temple Fair.

They invited a Priest from Qingxian Temple to perform rituals and offered plenty of incense to the Dragon King Temple.

The weather was perfect today.

As night approached, the sun and the moon could be seen in the sky together, though the moon was not yet quite bright enough.

A moment later, the moonlight turned bright and clear, and a sky full of stars revealed itself.

"Mister?"

A woman stood at the courtyard gate. Wrinkles lined her face, and strands of white mingled in her hair. She usually dressed simply, but today she had changed into a red dress.

Over the years, Miss Yun had always dressed in elegant, muted colors—either cyan or pale white. He had never seen her wear red.

Seeing Mister freeze, Yunxiang explained, "It's a rare occasion to be so lively. It's only right to wear something festive."

Chen Changsheng stepped forward. "You give off a completely different feeling in this outfit, Miss Yun."

"Like what?" Yunxiang asked.

Chen Changsheng paused. He thought about it for a long while but couldn't quite explain why.

Feelings were always difficult to describe.

Yunxiang smiled, then asked softly, "Then, do you like it, Mister?"

Chen Changsheng paused before nodding.

Just as they were talking, Yu Hongjin's voice rang out.

"Hey, hey, hey! Stop being so lovey-dovey! The Temple Fair has already started!"

Yunxiang glanced back at Yu Hongjin, her face instantly turning red as she lowered her head.

Yu Hongjin crossed her arms, pursed her lips, and imitated Yunxiang's manner, saying in a teasing tone, "Then, do you like it, Mister? Oh my..."

"Hongjin!"

Yunxiang reached out to twist Yu Hongjin's ear.

Yu Hongjin quickly dodged and bolted away.

Yunxiang opened her mouth, then looked back at Mister.

The two looked at each other and smiled, feeling rather helpless.

Yu Hongjin walked in the very front, while Yunxiang and Chen Changsheng followed behind. The two chatted as they walked, and before they knew it, they arrived at the entrance of the Temple Fair.

Notably, as soon as they walked in, they spotted Zhu Sheng's wooden cart for guessing lantern riddles.

Compared to the last time they saw it, the wooden cart looked much newer. It seemed to have been repaired. Hanging in the very center, at the highest point, was a lantern riddle displaying the first half of a couplet that had baffled Zhu Sheng for a long time.

"Lantern riddles!"

Yu Hongjin looked over at the stall owner and asked, "Boss, Boss, do we get free wine if we guess right?"

Zhu Sheng smiled and said, "Yes, you do."

He naturally knew of Yu Hongjin. They were both demons living in Qingshan City, so they were bound to run into each other.

Yu Hongjin grinned. "Then can you give me some without guessing?"

Zhu Sheng smiled helplessly. "The adults from your family are here."

At that, Yu Hongjin looked back, only to see Chen Changsheng and Yunxiang already standing behind her.

Yunxiang reached out and rapped her on the head.

"Ouch." Yu Hongjin rubbed her head.

"Causing trouble again," Yunxiang said helplessly.

Yu Hongjin pouted, not daring to say another word.

Zhu Sheng looked at Chen Changsheng, then glanced at the woman in the red dress. He gave a warm smile and cupped his hands in greeting. "A pleasure to see you, Mister Chen."

Chen Changsheng asked, "How is business?"

Zhu Sheng replied, "Night has only just fallen, so there's not much business yet. It will pick up later."

"That's good."

Zhu Sheng asked Chen Changsheng if he wanted to try guessing a lantern riddle.

Chen Changsheng thought about it and declined. Miss Yun also felt it was unnecessary; none of the riddles were difficult, except for the one at the very top.

Yu Hongjin, on the other hand, was very interested.

Most likely because Zhu Sheng had mentioned giving away wine.

Yunxiang said, "I guessed lantern riddles here in my earlier years. I even left a riddle for the boss at the time. Back then, it was an old man running the stall."

Zhu Sheng said, "He has passed away. He left this wooden cart to me."

"So that's how it is..." Yunxiang nodded.

Chen Changsheng asked, "You also left a lantern riddle back then, Miss Yun?"

"Also?" Yunxiang looked at Chen Changsheng.

Chen Changsheng smiled. "This Chen was thinking, perhaps it was on the exact same day."

Hearing this, Zhu Sheng said, "If that's truly the case, then it's quite a coincidence."

"What did you leave back then, Mister?" Yunxiang asked.

Chen Changsheng replied, "I don't remember the exact details, but the answer was related to the Nine-Jointed Lotus."

Yunxiang paused slightly upon hearing this. She thought for a moment before reciting, "Evergreen through four seasons without rain, how did it earn the fine name of Nine-Jointed Lotus? Leaves dyed in splendor drink the morning dew, flowers bloom in brilliance condensing the evening mist..."

Chen Changsheng couldn't help but freeze as he listened to Yunxiang recite this poem.

Seeing this, Zhu Sheng seemed to understand something as well.

Was it really that much of a coincidence?

Chen Changsheng asked, "So, you were the one who solved it that day, Miss Yun?"

Yunxiang smiled. "Indeed. I didn't expect such a coincidence either. I tried to guess four of them that day, but this was the only one I got right."

Because the answer was immortality.

It was also just by chance.

Chen Changsheng paused before asking, "In that case, the lantern riddle where the answer was a dandelion—was that also made by you, Miss Yun?"

Yunxiang stared blankly, then nodded.

"Could it be that you took that lantern, Mister?"

Chen Changsheng laughed upon hearing this. He shook his head and said, "I didn't take it, but I did guess the answer that day."

Yunxiang gave a helpless smile. "Perhaps it was fate."

Looking at the two of them, Zhu Sheng couldn't help but fall into thought.

Yu Hongjin, on the other hand, crossed her arms and glared at them with a look of utter displeasure.

She felt like she shouldn't even be here.

Zhu Sheng asked, "So, what was the answer to the lantern riddle you left behind, Miss Yun?"

Yunxiang thought about it, but shook her head. "I forgot."

She then looked at Chen Changsheng. "Do you remember, Mister?"

Chen Changsheng paused and said, "This Chen has a bad memory. I have forgotten as well."

Yunxiang smiled warmly.

Both of them actually knew what the answer was, but both found an excuse.

It was better not to mention it. Not bringing it up meant less sorrow.

It seemed that all of this was exactly like the answer to that lantern riddle.

She and Mister did indeed share an unbreakable bond, yet they were destined to meet but not fated to be together.

When they left, Chen Changsheng wished him a prosperous business, and Zhu Sheng replied with a word of thanks.

Zhu Sheng watched their retreating figures, shaking his head with a sigh.

What a pity.

She was a mortal.

He had thought that Mister would truly be moved by the worldly desires of the mortal realm, but looking at it now, that wasn't strictly the case.

After a while, the crowd at the Temple Fair began to grow.

Many people had entered the city that day. Once the Temple Fair began, the streets became packed with people, making it somewhat crowded to even walk.

Meanwhile, a figure quietly slipped over the walls of Qingshan City.

The person's face was smudged with a bit of dirt. She gazed from afar at the brightly lit Temple Fair.

"I really made it in time."

"Mmph, mmph, mmph..."

Suddenly, muffled noises came from beneath her.

Ruyi hastily stood up and pulled out the cat that had been crushed beneath her.

"Phew."

Lihua looked at Ruyi with utter helplessness and said, "Why did Ruyi use Lihua as a cushion?!"

"Ahem, it was an accident, an accident."

"You did that on purpose."

"I didn't."

"You did."

"Lihua won't speak to you for a shichen."

Ruyi gave a helpless smile and said, "Alright, alright, one shichen."

"Hmph."
