Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 814: A World of Difference

Shopkeeper Su had miscalculated one detail after all.

Shen Xiu was a secretary dispatched by Tang Manor, but was such a position so easily held?

Without exception, the secretaries of Tang Manor had the lives and livelihoods of their wives, children, and elders bound to the manor. This was why the trading firm's secretaries were kept on such a short leash, rarely colluding with the regional shopkeepers.

In earlier years, such measures had not existed. They were only implemented after certain unpleasant incidents. It was back then that Tang Mingjing realized human nature simply could not withstand scrutiny.

Shopkeeper Su's situation was much simpler.

A large proportion of the shopkeepers promoted from Tang Manor were orphans. It was an issue left over from the past, and it gave men like Shopkeeper Su the audacity to abuse their positions for personal gain. He was entirely alone.

Just like what he was doing now: using his authority as a shopkeeper to collude with bandits and threaten his employer.

Yunxiang watched this unfold with utmost calm.

Not a trace of fear showed in her eyes.

Yu Hongjin turned pale with fright. "Oh no, oh no! Sister Yun is in danger!"

Lihua blinked. "Lihua recognizes them! The ones who blocked the road and demanded money earlier—several of them look very familiar!"

"We have to save Sister Yun!" Yu Hongjin said.

Lihua nodded. "Lihua is very strong."

"Is this the time to brag about being strong?"

Lihua just blinked and said, "Look at the sky."

Yu Hongjin looked up.

She suddenly froze.

Dark clouds were rapidly gathering from all directions, heralding an imminent downpour.

In the blink of an eye, the clouds clustered together to the rumbling of muffled thunder.

"Rumble..."

All of this happened in a mere instant.

"What is this?" Yu Hongjin asked in astonishment.

She had a faint suspicion that this stupid cat had summoned the thunderclouds.

How could that be possible?

Lihua blinked. "Thunder!"

"What do you mean?" Yu Hongjin asked. "Did you summon these thunderclouds?"

Lihua thought for a moment before explaining, "It's Lihua's friend. Lihua called him over to help."

"Huh?" Yu Hongjin did not quite understand.

Lihua was fundamentally a pure cat.

Because of that purity, it had earned the affection of the Four Seasons Spiritual Energy.

Years ago, while watching a thunderstorm in the courtyard, it had comprehended these Divine Abilities.

Yet it never viewed them as Divine Abilities, but rather as friends.

By being close to that Spiritual Energy, the Divine Abilities came naturally.

This was fundamentally different from Divine Abilities; this was a spiritual law. It was just like the fading spirits of this world—such as the Snow Woman, who was born knowing how to command the power of snow. That was a spiritual law.

Such methods had already transcended the realm of a demon.

The sudden change in the weather caught the people in the courtyard completely off guard.

Yunxiang looked up, her brow furrowing.

She glanced around and, sure enough, spotted a pair of cat ears poking up over the courtyard wall.

Who else could it be but Lihua?

It wasn't that Lihua had ducked too slowly, but rather that it had simply forgotten its two ears were still standing up.

Yunxiang smiled helplessly but did not call the two of them out.

In truth, she had no need for these two little ones to intervene.

"Demonic wind..."

A bandit in the courtyard muttered under his breath, sensing something bizarre about this sudden shift in the weather.

Shopkeeper Su frowned slightly, but paid it little mind.

Yunxiang looked at Shopkeeper Su and asked, "Now that you have shown your true colors, Shopkeeper Su, do you really think I left no backup plan?"

Shopkeeper Su chuckled. "What does it matter? In this courtyard, you could not escape even if you sprouted wings. I only need to capture you, and naturally, I can trade you for a chance to live."

"Why go to such lengths?" Yunxiang asked. "Within the trading firm, there is no rule stating that abusing one's position for personal gain must be paid for with one's life."

"Enough nonsense!"

Shopkeeper Su had no desire to waste further words on her.

Yunxiang sighed softly and said, "I am afraid I will have to disappoint you, Shopkeeper Su. You most likely will not be capturing me today."

"We will know once we try."

Even now, Shopkeeper Su remained brimming with confidence.

He raised his hand and ordered, "Take her down."

The surrounding bandits and outlaws surged forward all at once.

Yet in that split second, someone within the group of bandits drew a blade first.

"Shing!"

A Long Saber sliced across a bandit's neck.

The man's eyes widened. He clutched his neck, his gaze filled with sheer disbelief.

This sudden twist caught Shopkeeper Su completely off guard.

Among the several dozen bandits and outlaws, nearly half suddenly turned on their comrades, pointing their blades at their own people.

Without a shred of hesitation, they brought their blades down.

Before Shopkeeper Su could even comprehend what was happening, a splash of bright red blood splattered across his face, blinding him.

"Squelch..."

Several agonized screams rang out.

Yunxiang watched the scene with indifference. Right at that moment, the Four Seasons Spiritual Energy called down the rain.

A torrential downpour crashed down in an instant.

"Patter, patter."

The heavy rain washed over the fresh blood continuously flowing from the corpses, pooling in the cracks between the courtyard's stone slabs.

The metallic stench of blood was greatly diluted by the rain.

"Rumble!"

A crack of muffled thunder jolted the dumbfounded Shopkeeper Su awake.

The men left standing gripped their sabers and swords, now aiming them squarely at Shopkeeper Su.

Shen Xiu was also left utterly bewildered by this sudden turn of events.

His gaze shifted to the woman standing before the desk. Meeting just one glance from her, a chill ran down Shen Xiu's spine.

He did not understand why.

This seemingly frail woman faced such a bloody scene with absolute composure. That calmness terrified Shen Xiu even more.

Atop the wall.

Yu Hongjin stared blankly at the scene, her expression suddenly turning pale and sickly.

She opened her mouth, then hurriedly pressed Lihua's head down.

"Mmm..."

Lihua protested. "Why won't you let me look?"

"Stupid cats aren't allowed to look. We're getting down."

Yu Hongjin hugged Lihua and jumped down from the courtyard wall.

She felt an unpleasant knot in her chest, suddenly realizing why Sister Yun had not wanted them to tag along.

Perhaps this was something they simply were not supposed to see.

Whether it was detaining a man's wife, children, and elders, or watching people be slaughtered with cold indifference, none of this seemed like the Sister Yun they knew. Such a sudden, jarring shift was both worrisome and bewildering.

Yunxiang took a step forward, splashing through the small puddles with a soft, bubbling sound.

"Patter, patter."

"Shopkeeper Su."

Yunxiang called out softly.

Shopkeeper Su's body trembled, his breathing suddenly turning frantic.

His legs trembled uncontrollably, buckling beneath him.

With a heavy thud, he fell to his knees.

The terror in his eyes was beyond words.

She looked at a person beside her who was dressed like a bandit. Breathing a soft sigh, she said, "I have troubled White Night this time."

The person beside her sheathed their bloodstained Long Saber and replied, "You are too polite, Lady Yun. In recent years, the trading firm has also provided much assistance to our White Night. Such a trivial matter is not worth mentioning."
