Yunxiang stepped out of the courtyard.

She saw a gentleman in a green robe sitting at the tea stall across the street. Yu Hongjin and Lihua sat beside him, seemingly chattering about something.

"It was so scary, so scary!"

"Mhm, mhm!"

"The way Sister Yun glared, it was like she wanted to eat someone alive. She was so fierce!"

Yu Hongjin made wild gestures, vividly describing the scene she had just witnessed.

"And those people were so fast! They suddenly drew their blades, and with a few slashes and screams, everyone dropped to the ground!"

Watching Yu Hongjin's exaggerated expressions, Lihua blinked. "Was it really like that?"

"Of course it was!" Yu Hongjin retorted.

"What are you all talking about?"

Yunxiang asked.

Yu Hongjin froze. She turned her head, only to see Sister Yun.

Lihua blinked. "She said you were very fierce. She's speaking ill of you behind your back. She's not a good fish!"

Yu Hongjin's eyes widened. She hurriedly retorted, "Nonsense! When did I ever say that?"

She slapped a hand over Lihua's mouth.

"Mmph..."

Unable to speak, Lihua could only blink repeatedly.

Yunxiang did not know whether to laugh or cry. She simply sat down.

Chen Changsheng asked, "Why handle a matter like this alone?"

Yunxiang replied, "It's a bit more convenient alone. Besides, this wasn't just about punishing that manager. It also involves a certain organization."

"What organization?"

"White Night."

Yunxiang explained, "This organization appeared out of nowhere and is deeply embedded within the populace. We have no choice but to be on our guard. Even now, despite the trading firm's extensive investigations, we still don't know their roots. Young Master Tang can't help but worry."

Chen Changsheng paused. "From what This Chen knows, White Night is more of an intelligence organization. They rarely meddle in other affairs. So why this time..."

Yunxiang said, "Such matters depend entirely on relationships. Before White Night rose to prominence, our trading firm provided them with some help, forming a bond. That's why they were willing to assist us. Young Master Tang also wanted to use this opportunity to see how far White Night had developed. The results, however, were entirely unexpected..."

Truthfully, she had expected White Night's people to suddenly appear from outside the courtyard.

She never expected they would be hiding right across from her, right before her very eyes.

Hearing this, Chen Changsheng asked, "Weren't you worried they wouldn't show up?"

Yunxiang smiled. "Has Mister forgotten? Although Yunxiang no longer has much Magical Power, she used to be Zhu Qi, after all."

Dealing with a few mortals was hardly difficult.

Chen Changsheng said, "It is still better not to take risks next time."

"Mhm."

"Let's go back."

Mao'er and Yu Hongjin exchanged a glance.

They suddenly felt as if they had been watching for so long without serving any purpose.

The fish and the cat were deeply bewildered, having no idea what they were even doing here today.

On the way, they came across a candied fruit shop.

Yunxiang bought a few portions. She didn't buy them specifically for Mister; most were given to the two little ones.

Yu Hongjin did not particularly love sweets, but she was happy enough to eat a piece or two of Malt Sugar occasionally. Lihua, on the other hand, was much more gluttonous and absolutely loved the candied fruit. The way the cat chewed the sugar even looked a bit "ferocious." One piece was not enough, and it constantly demanded more.

"Mister, have a taste."

Chen Changsheng took a piece and popped it into his mouth.

The frosting on the candied fruit melted, filling his mouth with a refreshing sweetness and a faint hint of cucumber.

Yunxiang ate a piece herself. With the candy in her mouth, she seemed reluctant to swallow it.

Chen Changsheng glanced sideways, only to see Yunxiang's cheeks puffed out. The way she ate the candy made her look exactly like a teenage girl.

Feeling Mister's gaze, Yunxiang turned her head to look.

Seeing Mister watching her, she felt a bit embarrassed and quickly turned her head away.

Chen Changsheng chuckled and looked away.

Yunxiang lowered her head slightly, feeling a touch bashful, but then she felt that acting like this was truly a bit affected.

She was already an older woman, yet she still showed such girlish mannerisms. No matter how she thought about it, it felt awkward.

That faint smile faded away, replaced by a serious expression that made her look more like a kindly old grandmother. Her hair, a mixture of black and white, further accentuated this.

Seeing her like this, Chen Changsheng asked, "Why so serious all of a sudden?"

Yunxiang breathed a sigh. "I'm not a little girl anymore."

Chen Changsheng paused for a moment and asked, "Can't you smile just because you're no longer a little girl?"

Yunxiang stared blankly after hearing this. She looked at Mister Chen, and suddenly burst into laughter.

"Mister is right."

The smile bloomed on her face once more.

Listening to their conversation while eating her candy, Yu Hongjin inexplicably felt the sweetness in her mouth turn sour.

She truly couldn't stand looking at the two of them.

They did not stay in this place for much longer. With their business concluded, it was time to move on. Although this was the Yan King's Capital, there was ultimately not much to linger for.

The horse carriage left the city.

The Prince of Yan also received the news.

Learning that they had already left the city, he felt a sense of relief. At the very least, the matter of the one hundred thousand taels of silver wouldn't need to be mentioned again for the time being.

Yet, a faint sense of worry lingered in the Prince of Yan's heart.

"The trading firm..."

If anything, this incident had served as a wake-up call.

Previously, he hadn't been too worried about the Tang Family Trading Firm turning on him, but this incident seemed to reveal a few warning signs.

He had to take precautions.

He couldn't place all his bets on them. If his lifeblood was held captive by a merchant, would he still even be the Prince of Yan?

...

They traveled south.

Towering mountains and steep ridges made for a winding journey, but the path was still far better than the roads of the Nine-Tiered Mountains. At the very least, there were fewer potholes and a noticeable lack of bandits.

Yu Hongjin, however, didn't quite understand. "These places are also deep mountains and old forests. Why aren't there any bandits here?"

Thinking back to the young man they had encountered earlier, Yunxiang couldn't help but pause.

Perhaps this Yan Land harbored many secrets to begin with.

Yunxiang said, "Some people appear to be bandits, but in reality, they hold another identity."

Yu Hongjin blinked. "What identity?"

Yunxiang shook her head, offering no explanation to Yu Hongjin.

Yu Hongjin smacked her lips and changed the subject, asking, "Earlier in that courtyard, Sister Yun... that guy surnamed Shen..."

She looked up and asked, "Did Sister Yun capture his family?"

Yunxiang paused at those words. She let out a soft sigh and nodded.

Yu Hongjin froze. She hadn't expected Sister Yun to admit it so directly.

"Why?" Yu Hongjin asked. "Didn't Sister teach me before that a person's misdeeds shouldn't implicate their family?"

Yunxiang sighed softly. She patted Yu Hongjin's head and said, "Hongjin, you must understand... the hearts of people in this world ultimately cannot withstand being tested."

Yu Hongjin didn't understand. This seemed to run counter to the principles she had learned.
