Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 908: Ought to Look Alike

Hearing this, Gu Jiangshi felt a little puzzled.

"Why do you ask that?"

Chen Changsheng paused for a moment and said, "This Chen feels he ought to look very much like me."

Gu Jiangshi shook his head. "Not at all."

He found this man baffling.

"Is that so..."

Chen Changsheng murmured. He nodded and asked no more.

"Rest here for now. This Chen has some matters to attend to. If you get bored, you can wander around the Market Town and see what the world is like today."

"Alright."

Chen Changsheng left the room.

Mao'er ran over, leapt up, and landed on Chen Changsheng's shoulder.

"Chen the Good Man, Chen the Good Man, what were you talking about with that big guy just now?"

Lihua blinked and asked curiously.

Chen Changsheng looked at Lihua. He froze for a moment, as if something had occurred to him.

The Demon-Summoning Divine Lord...

It seemed that Lihua had once followed Mo Yu, serving under the Demon-Summoning Divine Lord.

Under Chen Changsheng's gaze, Lihua's whiskers twitched. "Chen the Good Man is looking at Lihua with such weird eyes."

Chen Changsheng restrained his expression. He stroked Lihua's forehead and said, "It's nothing. I was just lost in thought for a moment."

"Oh."

Lihua replied, then immediately asked, "Chen the Good Man still hasn't said what you were talking about inside."

"We were discussing why Lihua is so fat."

"Liar."

"This Chen doesn't lie."

That was true enough. He wasn't lying to a person; he was lying to a cat.

Lihua huffed twice. Staring back into Chen Changsheng's eyes, it said, "Chen the Good Man has a secret."

Chen Changsheng didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "What secret does this Chen have?"

"Lihua can tell."

"That impressive? You can even see that?"

"Of course! Lihua's eyes are super sharp."

Chen Changsheng chuckled. Stroking Mao'er's head felt rather soothing.

Yet for some reason, he also felt a bit strange.

Going by what Gu Jiangshi had recounted, Chen Changsheng still felt there were some falsehoods mixed in. Gu Jiangshi was definitely holding something back, or else he had altered some details.

The idea that he had been a demonic overlord in his past life was hard for Chen Changsheng to accept. He even suspected Gu Jiangshi of lying. But on second thought, who else knew about the Mayfly Curse? What reason did he have to lie?

"Was I really a demonic overlord in my past life...?"

Chen Changsheng asked himself, feeling a momentary daze.

He didn't dare to be certain. It wasn't that he looked down on the status of a demonic overlord, but rather that he simply couldn't believe it. Looking at himself, and then thinking of that Demon Sovereign with heaven-reaching abilities, he felt the difference between the two was simply too vast.

Besides.

A person like him had struggled just to fight a remnant soul inside a sword. How could he possibly be mentioned in the same breath as the Demon Sovereign?

Impossible. Chen Changsheng still felt it was highly unlikely.

He would need to verify this further.

For now, it was nothing more than a suspicion.

However, this did resolve some of the doubts in his heart, and it also reminded him of a matter he had left hanging.

Namely, those severed remains.

The remains suppressed within the spirit cage.

The Demon Sovereign cultivated the Corpse Dao, potentially reaching the level of an indestructible physical body. If it couldn't be destroyed, it could only be sealed. Otherwise, if it were left wandering the Mortal World, ambitious people would inevitably scheme to claim it.

However, the present Chen Changsheng had yet to find all of the Demon Sovereign's remains.

So far, he had found two hands and one leg. He was still missing a lot.

"It's a bit like a puzzle."

He truly did need to pay more attention to this.

Still, these matters were a bit distant for now.

Right in front of him, there was another pressing issue.

That was Quanshan.

This matter required a thorough investigation.

The purpose behind Quanshan's founding might very well be a scheme by a demonic cultivator, likely intended to lure people into the demonic path. However, looking at the phenomena surrounding Quanshan, there was no concrete evidence proving it was definitely the work of the demonic path. A corpse puppet was just a corpse puppet; it did not necessarily point to a demonic cultivator.

He had to find the person pulling the strings behind the scenes.

"Chen the Good Man?"

"Chen the Good Man!!"

Chen Changsheng snapped out of his daze. "What is it?"

Lihua looked at him and asked, "Why did you zone out?"

"Thinking about something."

"Thinking again."

Lihua tucked its two front paws under its body and said, "Chen the Good Man has been spacing out a lot lately."

Chen Changsheng tapped its forehead.

"Doesn't Lihua zone out all the time too?"

"Lihua isn't smart. How could Lihua compare to Chen the Good Man? Of course it takes longer to think about things."

Chen Changsheng smiled helplessly. "So you're admitting you aren't smart now?"

Lihua's whiskers twitched. "I'm only not smart compared to Chen the Good Man. Compared to Yu Hongjin, Lihua is practically a genius."

"You two..."

Chen Changsheng didn't know whether to laugh or cry. This fish and this cat were completely entangled with each other.

Chen Changsheng patted it and said, "Go call Miss Yun and Yu Hongjin. Let's go downstairs and get something to eat."

"Meow, okay."

Chen Changsheng went downstairs and ordered the food.

Yunxiang had added an extra layer of clothing. She remarked, "It's gotten inexplicably cold today."

Chen Changsheng paused for a moment, suddenly realizing what was going on.

It wasn't just Miss Yun; many guests in the inn were also wearing extra clothes.

"This is so weird!"

Another voice drifted in from outside the inn.

"Innkeeper, why is it so cold in your inn? When I woke up this morning, I was shivering so hard my teeth were chattering! I thought the weather had just turned cold, but I barely took a few steps outside before I felt warm again. You don't have something unholy lurking in this inn, do you?"

"Sir, you can't just throw words like that around! What kind of unholy thing could possibly be in my massive inn?"

"It's really strange, though."

"It definitely is a bit cold..."

Moreover, this cold was an eerie, gloomy sort of chill, piercing straight to the bone.

Chen Changsheng had completely forgotten about this issue. He figured he would have to do something about Gu Jiangshi later.

Yunxiang asked, "Is it because of the person Mister brought back?"

Chen Changsheng nodded.

Yunxiang thought for a moment and said, "With this kind of gloomy chill, he shouldn't be human. But since he has a physical body, he isn't a ghost either. Yunxiang honestly doesn't know what kind of being Mister brought back."

Chen Changsheng said, "He's a zombie."

Yunxiang came to a sudden realization. "So that's it. No wonder the inn is so cold."

"It was this Chen's oversight. I will deal with it in a bit."

"Mm."

Lihua blinked and said, "Lihua thinks it's nice and cool."

Yu Hongjin took a bite of food and said, "You've got thick fur and a rough hide. Of course you don't feel cold."

Lihua shot back, "Your flesh is tender."

"This little lord is tender."

"Lihua doesn't believe it. Not unless you let me take a bite."

"Get lost!!"

Lihua smacked its lips and said, "Old cured fish."

"..."

Yu Hongjin clenched her fists tightly, on the verge of losing her temper.

In the end, it was Miss Yun who spoke up, saying, "Eat your food. No more bickering from either of you."

Yu Hongjin snorted, then lowered her head to eat.

Lihua huffed twice, looking incredibly smug.

It likely felt that it had come out slightly on top and was feeling quite pleased with itself.

Because of this, it ended up eating a bit more today, its little belly swelling until it was perfectly round.
