The so-called "asking Heaven" was much like the commoners of the Mortal World writing a joint petition to their emperor. The plea of a single person could hardly reach the throne, but if tens of thousands voiced their grievances together, the emperor would naturally take notice.

When cultivators asked Heaven, the principle was exactly the same. By erecting an altar and offering sacrifices, the questions in their hearts could reach the ears of Heaven. Once Heaven and Earth were aware, if the plea aligned with the heavenly will, the situation could be rectified.

This method had existed since ancient times. It was akin to invoking a deity, beseeching Heaven and Earth to step in and restore order to the world.

Zhong Zhengyuan naturally knew of this method, but he only let out a sigh. "You do not understand, Mister. That day, when the altar was set up and Heaven was asked, Heaven and Earth opened its eyes, yet it failed to see the filth of the Mortal World. The heavenly eyes have been obscured..."

Chen Changsheng frowned. "What do you mean?"

"When we asked Heaven, an eye opened between Heaven and Earth," Zhong Zhengyuan explained. "That gaze carried the majesty of the Great Dao, yet a layer of mist obscured its vision, as though deliberately preventing it from seeing."

Chen Changsheng was deeply astonished. "Did you see this with your own eyes, Mister Zhong?"

Zhong Zhengyuan nodded. "I gazed up from the Mortal World, peering through the firmament, and only barely caught a glimpse. In the blink of an eye, I was thrown back by the Daoist rhythm of Heaven and Earth, and more than half of my merit was stripped away. Still, that was to be expected. Secretly prying into the Heavenly Dao is inherently an offense."

Chen Changsheng lightly tapped his fingers against the table. "In that case, someone is indeed working in the shadows..." he murmured.

Chen Changsheng slowly began to piece things together.

He said, "If the mist obscuring the heavens is dispersed, perhaps this matter can be easily resolved."

Zhong Zhengyuan paused. The logic was indeed sound.

But how could that be a simple task?

Anyone capable of obscuring the gaze of Heaven and Earth could no longer be considered an ordinary cultivator.

To dare deceive the Heavenly Dao, and to actually succeed in doing so—this feat alone placed them on a level nearly equal to Heaven itself.

"Mister, this is no longer a struggle between ordinary immortals and cultivators."

Zhong Zhengyuan let out a soft sigh. "Such a matter is far beyond what we can meddle in."

Even if a cultivator harbored great righteousness in their heart, facing such an impossible gulf would leave them speechless. Even if they threw themselves into the fray, they wouldn't be able to change the reality.

Faced with this truth, they could only fall into silence.

Chen Changsheng understood this reasoning as well. At the very least, he wouldn't dare attempt such a thing himself. In his current state, with barely any magical power left, how could he possibly contend with Heaven?

Furthermore, for him, this wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

With the heavenly eyes truly blinded, they likely wouldn't be able to observe this realm for a short while. This window of time presented a perfect opportunity.

But Zhong Zhengyuan's next words immediately put Chen Changsheng on high alert.

"However, the Mortal World seems to still be under Heaven and Earth's watch."

Chen Changsheng paused and raised his eyes. "Why is that?"

Zhong Zhengyuan shook his head. "That remains unclear. I suspect it might be because the person who blinded the heavenly eyes was limited in their capabilities."

"If that is the case, wouldn't it work to simply ask Heaven again from within the borders of the Mortal World?"

"We naturally tried that as well, but in the end, there wasn't the slightest response. It took me quite a while to finally understand the truth of the matter. Even if Heaven and Earth knew, it wouldn't necessarily have a solution. A blind man thrusting a sword—how could he possibly hit his mark?"

Chen Changsheng's thoughts grew heavy. He realized that if the Mortal World fell into the same state as the Cultivation World, his own opportunities would greatly increase. In such a scenario, he would have a sixty or seventy percent certainty—if not ninety—of successfully drawing forth the waters of the Yellow Springs.

But when Chen Changsheng snapped back to his senses, he realized just how terrifying that line of thought truly was.

If the Mortal World fell into such a state and demonic cultivators descended upon it, it would spell total ruin for all living beings. How could defenseless mortals possibly fight against such forces? By then, would this place even be the Mortal World anymore? In the blink of an eye, it would likely transform into an absolute purgatory.

Having regained his clarity, Chen Changsheng fell into deep thought.

After a long while, he simply shook his head at Zhong Zhengyuan.

Truthfully, Chen Changsheng had no countermeasures either.

Given his current condition, facing such a crisis was tantamount to a mortal trying to fight an immortal. He would probably be reduced to dust by the shockwaves before he could even get close.

Under these circumstances, he wasn't even a match for Zhong Zhengyuan, much less the vast majority of cultivators. The magical power he could draw upon right now was extremely limited. During the incident in the Demon Domain back then, he had exhausted all the magical power stored in his hair, leaving only the meager remnants dwelling within the Listening Rain Sword. That was far from enough.

Seeing this, Zhong Zhengyuan fell silent as well. "Does Mister also lack a countermeasure?"

Chen Changsheng replied, "Mister Zhong thinks far too highly of This Chen. This is not a matter This Chen can get involved in."

To put it plainly—and perhaps a bit bluntly—Chen Changsheng simply knew his own limits.

This was absolutely not something he could meddle in!

Zhong Zhengyuan opened his mouth, wanting to say something more.

But he was interrupted by Chen Changsheng. "However, This Chen feels there is an aspect that Mister Zhong ought to ponder deeply. A blind man thrusting a sword is indeed difficult, but why doesn't he simply find himself a pair of eyes? This Chen believes that shouldn't be too difficult a task."

Chen Changsheng's words carried profound meaning.

Zhong Zhengyuan froze slightly upon hearing this.

Having said his piece, Chen Changsheng rose to his feet. "This Chen will not disturb Mister Zhong any longer. If the opportunity arises in the future, This Chen will pay a visit to Tianji Mountain."

His parting words left Zhong Zhengyuan stunned in place.

Meanwhile, Zhao Lin stood up, shot Zhong Zhengyuan a glance, offered a slight cupped-fist salute, and followed Chen Changsheng out the door.

They stepped outside.

Zhao Lin's gaze kept lingering on Chen Changsheng.

Truthfully, the exchange had far exceeded his expectations.

Zhao Lin asked, "Those things you two were just talking about—you weren't joking?"

Chen Changsheng paused for a moment. "Naturally not."

Zhao Lin stared blankly for a second. "Does the Heavenly Dao really exist in this world?"

Chen Changsheng didn't answer. He merely continued walking forward.

"Forget it if you don't want to tell me."

Zhao Lin shifted the topic instead. "But why were you in such a rush to leave? You two barely exchanged a few words."

Chen Changsheng came to a halt. "This Chen lacks the ability to meddle in such matters, so it's best not to talk about them too much. Ignorance is bliss."

Zhao Lin nodded in understanding.

Even so, he felt doubtful. "Why don't I believe you?" he asked. "I keep feeling like you do have the ability, and you just don't want to get involved."

Chen Changsheng paused. "In truth, I do not. In my earlier years, it might have been a possibility, but I ran into some matters later on, and I am far from what I used to be."

"Oh... so you've fallen from grace."

"That is one way to put it," Chen Changsheng agreed with a nod.

Zhao Lin had plenty of questions. He pressed again, "But even if you did have the ability, you probably wouldn't get involved anyway, would you? That parting remark you left him with obviously held some profound meaning. Is there some sort of conspiracy involved here?"

"Do not ask what you shouldn't ask."
