To Chen Changsheng, it was clear.
Since heaven and earth could observe the Mortal World, this naturally presented an opportunity.
It was indeed difficult for a blind man to thrust a sword.
But why couldn't someone else borrow the blind man's strength to strike?
Finding a pair of eyes would be incredibly simple for heaven and earth.
Yet they had delayed taking action for so long, which made no sense.
If Chen Changsheng could think of this, could Zhong Zhengyuan not think of it too?
Not necessarily!
That really might not be the case!
Over the years, Chen Changsheng had spotted traces of the Heavenly Dao more than once. Many events in the Mortal World had occurred under its direct instruction. He realized then that the Heavenly Dao was fully capable of scheming and playing tricks, executing them without leaving a trace. Though he could not produce hard evidence and could only rely on his intuition, noticing it time and time again had slowly cemented his theory.
There was the matter with the Qiuyuefang City God, Mister Zhulan and King Yu, the incident with the spirit cage, and later, the death of Yan Ruchu.
With all these incidents piling up, Chen Changsheng truly could not find anyone else to suspect.
This bizarre situation was exactly why.
Chen Changsheng suspected that the rise of the demonic cultivator was also deliberately orchestrated by the Heavenly Dao, which would explain its current lack of action.
No cultivator in this world, regardless of who they were, could truly fight against the heavens, let alone blind the eyes of heaven. If someone actually possessed that level of power, they could simply establish a new Heavenly Dao altogether. There would be no need for such petty, underhanded tricks.
Therefore, Chen Changsheng had no desire to get involved.
Even if his Magical Power remained intact, he still wouldn't interfere.
However, this realization served as a wake-up call.
It was indeed time to speed up his plans.
He was waiting for an opportunity. Just like before, he needed the turning point when the Mortal World's qi destiny surged. Only during that critical window would he have the chance to enter the Yellow Springs again and draw forth its waters.
"It is still a bit too slow..."
Chen Changsheng pondered. At this rate, who knew how many more years the war would drag on? The current situation was no longer just a dispute between the Imperial Court and the two princes; it had essentially evolved into a war between three distinct kingdoms.
Under these circumstances, the stalemate would likely drag on for quite a few more years.
Even three years from now, it was entirely possible they might still be locked in a standstill.
"However..."
Chen Changsheng suddenly remembered something and let out a relieved sigh. "There should still be someone out there to stir the pot."
Even now, Chen Changsheng had no idea who exactly Yan Ruchu had arranged to take action.
But it definitely wasn't Prince Jin or the Prince of Yan.
Both of those princes bore the surname Zhao and represented the Zhao Imperial Clan. If either ascended the throne, they would have no reason to change the world's ruling surname to Yan. The name Jing was even further out of the question—it lacked all legitimacy.
"Stirring what pot?"
Chen Changsheng rolled his eyes at him. "You always have to stick your nose into everything, don't you?"
Zhao Lin asked, "What are you muttering about over there by yourself?"
"This Chen has run out of silver taels. I was just thinking that selling you off should fetch a decent sum of money."
"Sell me?!"
Zhao Lin exclaimed, but he quickly calmed down. "Go ahead and try. If you actually manage to sell me, I'll take your surname."
Chen Changsheng was left speechless. This guy truly was thick-skinned enough.
Zhao Lin looked toward the bamboo raft on the riverbank and asked, "Where are we off to this time?"
Chen Changsheng replied, "To find a few people and take care of a few things."
"What things?"
"Do you always have this many questions?"
Zhao Lin shut his mouth. "You're the one who insisted on saving me."
"This Chen will gladly abandon you right here, right now."
With that said, Chen Changsheng walked briskly toward the boat.
The moment he stepped onto it, he felt something was off.
"Hm?"
Zhao Lin hurried over after him, saying, "I knew you couldn't actually leave me behind."
Chen Changsheng replied, "This Chen wasn't waiting for you."
Zhao Lin followed his gaze and froze in surprise. "This isn't our bamboo raft, is it?"
Their original bamboo raft had been brand new and entirely undamaged. The one before them, however, was a battered wreck. Some parts of it were completely waterlogged and rotting, looking as if the whole thing might sink at any moment.
Chen Changsheng said, "It seems someone swapped rafts with us."
Zhao Lin laughed upon hearing this. "Whoever did it must have been completely blind."
He had a feeling there was going to be a good show to watch.
Chen Changsheng nodded. "No matter what, we have to make him pay us some silver taels in compensation. Don't you agree?"
Zhao Lin's eyes lit up. "Makes perfect sense."
The two of them exchanged a smile before stepping onto the broken bamboo raft.
Chen Changsheng plucked a leaf and tossed it into the river. Instead of drifting with the current, the leaf pointed steadily ahead, guiding their way.
They rode the broken bamboo raft in pursuit of the thief, traveling without pause.
Zhao Lin was visibly excited.
Wasn't this far more interesting than being cooped up in the Prince's Manor?
He wanted to see just which thief was audacious enough to steal a boat right out from under them.
They were going to fleece this thief completely dry!
"Hurry up, hurry up."
"What's the rush? They won't get away."
Chen Changsheng was in no hurry. The two of them pursued the thief along the river for half a shichen, but they didn't catch a single glimpse of their target the entire time.
Zhao Lin, who had been thrilled at first, was now starting to grow suspicious.
"You didn't lose the trail, did you?"
Chen Changsheng replied calmly, "It's still too early."
The bamboo raft continued its journey, steadily pressing forward.
Several shichen passed, and Zhao Lin eventually began to nod off on the raft.
The sky slowly darkened.
They could only make out the path ahead by relying on a faint sliver of light.
Zhao Lin smacked his lips together and asked, "Are we not going to dock? It's pitch-black out here. It's creeping me out."
"We're almost there."
Chen Changsheng spoke up.
"Are we?"
Zhao Lin was highly skeptical, as he had already heard Chen Changsheng say those exact words three times now.
Not long after, the bamboo raft reached the shore.
The moment Zhao Lin disembarked, his front foot had barely touched solid ground before the bamboo raft behind him completely fell apart. With a sharp crackling noise, it shattered and was instantly swept away by the river current.
Zhao Lin patted his chest, overwhelmed by a sudden wave of delayed fear.
If he had been even a single step slower, he would have ended up a drowned rat today.
Under the cover of night, it was almost impossible to see anything on the riverbank.
Furthermore, the further they walked down the path, the more unnerving it felt.
Zhao Lin looked around, only realizing something was wrong after a long while.
"Why are we heading deep into the mountains?!"
Chen Changsheng said, "Because they are inside the mountains."
Zhao Lin asked, "Is the guy a mountain bandit?"
Chen Changsheng shook his head, raised his hand, and slapped it lightly against Zhao Lin's forehead.
Confused, Zhao Lin asked, "What did you hit me for?"
"Look up," Chen Changsheng said.
Zhao Lin lifted his head and looked toward the mountain.
He instantly froze in place.
The mountain that had been pitch-black just moments ago was now brightly illuminated in his eyes. Through the gloom, he could faintly make out figures carrying lanterns as they made their way up the mountain path.
"Ring..."
The faint ring of a Bronze Bell echoed out from deep within the mountain.
A gust of ghostly wind swept past, and Zhao Lin shuddered, swallowing hard.
His intuition screamed at him that whoever was in that mountain was definitely no ordinary mountain bandit.
"What is all this..."
