Ning Bufan stared blankly as several plum blossoms bloomed on the tree standing in the snow.

The breathtaking sight seemed to have descended from the heavens.

A graceful silhouette appeared through the hazy, drifting snow.

The figure stood gracefully, like a fairy in white with a plum blossom mark between her brows. She seemed to be the sole touch of breathtaking beauty amidst the vast, blowing snow.

Just that single plum blossom mark left Ning Bufan in a daze.

The woman curtsied slightly in greeting to the approaching Mister Qingshan. "Yu Die greets Mister," she called out.

There were many different names for plum blossoms, such as Jade Exquisite, Jade Face, and Chief of a Hundred Flowers. Yu Die was one of them, and it was also her true name.

Chen Changsheng cupped his hands in return. "It is lonely amidst the mountain snow," he said. "Thank you, Young Lady, for guarding the Wanli Snow Mountains."

Yu Die froze for a moment, her lips parting slightly. Surprise flashed through her eyes, but a moment later, she seemed to understand.

Chen Changsheng gave a slight nod. "This Chen supposes I am not the Mister that Young Lady knew."

Hearing this, Yu Die lowered her gaze, as if she had lost her luster.

She pursed her lips slightly and looked back up at Mister Qingshan.

"Mister looks much older..."

Chen Changsheng paused before saying, "If I did not age, it would always lead to misunderstandings."

"Is that so."

Yu Die slowly stepped forward, carefully examining the man's features.

The man before her looked exactly like Mister, yet Yu Die felt an overwhelming sense of unfamiliarity. He seemed completely unacquainted with her, which only proved further that he was not the Mister from her past.

Yu Die closed her eyes and let out a deep sigh.

She should have realized it sooner.

Ning Bufan watched numbly, glancing between Chen Changsheng and this impossibly beautiful woman.

He couldn't help but feel bewildered.

Chen Changsheng looked at her. "This Chen came here because of an unresolved matter. It seems something from a past life left a restriction upon Young Lady. I have come specifically to settle this karma."

Yu Die gave a slight nod, understanding exactly what he meant.

"Mister is right," she said. "Yu Die truly should leave as well."

She hadn't stayed here on purpose.

The Wanli Snow Mountains separated the human and demon realms. But with their endless peaks and ceaseless snowfall, there would always be unpredictable changes. She had stood guard here much like a mountain deity, watching over a mountain range without end for the sake of the Mortal World's lands and rivers.

Now that the Mortal World had undergone drastic changes and demons appeared frequently, she realized that guarding this mountain no longer seemed necessary.

Chen Changsheng felt a wave of relief. His only worry had been that this Young Lady would cling too tightly to the past. But looking at her now, there was no need to overexplain, which made things much easier.

Yu Die smiled gently. "However, Yu Die does not know where to go. Won't Mister point out a path for me?"

Chen Changsheng paused. "This Chen does not even know where I should go myself, so I certainly cannot give Young Lady an answer."

Yu Die froze, somewhat taken aback.

She sensed a massive difference. Whether in personality or his way of doing things, this person seemed worlds apart from the Mister of the past.

They were completely different people.

Yu Die did not bring the matter up again. Instead, she asked, "I wonder if my older sisters are still around?"

Chen Changsheng asked, "Who might Young Lady be asking about?"

"Sister Zhu Qi, Sister Hu Yu, and Sister Yu Xuan."

Chen Changsheng fell silent.

The two looked at each other in silence.

Yu Die's expression shifted to one of sorrow. She smiled helplessly and said, "If none of them are around, then I have even fewer places to go."

Chen Changsheng pondered for a long time before asking, "What does Young Lady wish to do?"

Yu Die thought for a moment. "It is quite nice here. Perhaps I just won't leave after all."

Chen Changsheng considered this and replied, "In the end, whether you go or stay is entirely for Young Lady to decide."

Yu Die's heart tightened at those words.

"Mister won't look after me?"

Only after the words left her mouth did she realize she had misspoken.

Chen Changsheng parted his lips but seemed at a loss for words, unsure of how to reply.

Yu Die pursed her lips and turned her head away. In the blink of an eye, she calmed down again. Squeezing out a smile, she said, "Please don't take offense, Mister. Yu Die spoke out of turn. After all, Mister is indeed no longer the Mister of the past."

Chen Changsheng asked, "In that case, This Chen and Young Lady must have known each other very well in those early years?"

Yu Die fell into reminiscence. Taking a couple of steps to the side, she said, "I was ignorant back then. I even called Mister 'Daddy,' and I had two 'Mommies.' Later on, Sister Yu Xuan scolded me, and only then did I slowly change the habit."

Thinking back to those years, she had also been planted in the courtyard by Mister's own hands.

Chen Changsheng tried to recall the memories after hearing this, but it was to no avail. He felt that some things were truly profound—it was him, yet not him. However, at least he could distinguish between the two now.

If it had been during his earlier years, he probably wouldn't have been able to figure it out no matter what.

Chen Changsheng shook his head slightly. "In short, Young Lady may do as she pleases from now on. There is no life in this blowing snow, and staying here too long will become stifling. Leave if you wish, stay if you wish. Just be at ease."

Yu Die nodded, agreeing to his words.

She let out a breath and looked at Mister. "Mister should go. Do not mind these matters of the past. Logically speaking, they have nothing to do with Mister anymore. Past matters are left in the past; the affairs of today belong to the people of today. I only wish for Mister's safety and eternal happiness."

Chen Changsheng gave a slight nod, looking at the Young Lady before him for a long time.

"Then This Chen will take his leave."

"Let me ask one more thing of Mister."

"Please speak, Young Lady. As long as it is within This Chen's power, I will certainly do it."

"Mister, please build a snowman one more time."

Hearing the phrase 'one more time,' Chen Changsheng couldn't help but pause, though he immediately recovered.

He agreed, "Alright."

"However, what kind of snowman does Young Lady want This Chen to build?" Chen Changsheng asked.

Yu Die thought about it and replied, "That is up to Mister."

Hearing this, Chen Changsheng got to work.

He packed a snowball and rolled it through the snow. Before long, he had formed two large snowballs and stacked them together.

He used his finger to draw the eyebrows and eyes. Since there were no wooden sticks, he simply drew on the arms as well. From a distance, it looked like nothing more than two spheres stacked together.

It looked incredibly sloppy, devoid of any aesthetic appeal.

Seeing this, Yu Die was slightly stunned.

She parted her lips, finding it somewhat hard to understand.

She looked at Mister, then back at the snowman.

Chen Changsheng felt a bit embarrassed. "If Young Lady is unsatisfied, This Chen can properly build another one."

Yu Die shook her head. "No, Yu Die is very satisfied."

Originally, she could still tell the difference between them.

But once this snowman was built, she couldn't tell them apart anymore.

If the past was the past and the present was the present, then why did the man of the past and the man of the present build the exact same snowman?

She didn't understand, and she found it hard to comprehend.

...

...

Mister Qingshan headed down the mountain.

Yu Die watched from the mountain peak. With a raise of her hand, the blowing snow retreated, revealing a path that had been buried for years.

Mister Qingshan turned back, cupped his hands, and called out his thanks.

After that, he never looked back again.

Yu Die watched calmly.

It wasn't until the heavy snow reappeared, obscuring the figure of the man descending the mountain, that she finally snapped back to her senses.

"I still can't really tell the difference."
