This was vastly different from the qi refining methods Chen Changsheng had seen previously.
Most methods in the cultivation world used meridians and the dantian to store spiritual energy, which then nourished the physical body. In truth, this differed greatly from the methods of cultivation Chen Changsheng knew in his past life.
Daoists had a saying: with the five qi converging to the origin and the three flowers gathering at the crown, one became an immortal. This statement was also a Great Dao, distinct from the majority of methods in this world.
Neither was truly superior to the other.
Both were cultivation methods, each with its own merits. Comparatively, the cultivation methods of this world were simpler and faster, pointing straight to the Great Dao. The method of the five qi converging to the origin and the three flowers gathering at the crown was entirely different; its efficiency fell far short of this world's methods. However, when it came to the Magical Power produced, this world's methods were vastly inferior to the Daoist approach.
Each had its strengths and weaknesses.
Chen Changsheng found it incredibly fascinating.
When the mind achieved sudden clarity, Divine Abilities formed of their own accord.
The sensation was profoundly mystical. It was as if he had been wandering in a dense haze for a long time, only for a sudden ray of light to pierce through and illuminate the path ahead.
A smile graced Chen Changsheng's face as he gazed toward the primordial purple essence spanning heaven and earth.
Unexpectedly, the Bamboo Raft beneath him began to shake.
Ning Bufan's eyelids twitched as he woke from his dream.
The Bamboo Raft lost its supporting arts and techniques, and in the blink of an eye, it plummeted.
Ning Bufan suddenly felt the sensation of falling. He struggled for a moment before the howling wind shocked him completely awake.
"Ah!!"
"Where the hell am I?!"
Ning Bufan screamed, finally realizing he was in a rapid free fall.
"Don't panic, don't panic."
A voice spoke up from beside him.
Ning Bufan turned his head and saw Mister Qingshan looking completely at ease, plummeting downward right alongside him.
Ning Bufan's eyes widened. Clutching at a lifeline, he grabbed onto Chen Changsheng's clothes.
Chen Changsheng offered a gentle smile and patted his shoulder. "Did you not gain the slightest insight from your dream?"
"What did you say?!"
The wind was roaring so loudly that Ning Bufan couldn't hear him clearly.
The gale forced him to squint, and he could feel the ground rushing up to meet them.
Chen Changsheng repeated himself.
Ning Bufan finally heard him and shouted in a panic, "What damn dream?! Damn it, I'm going to be smashed into meat paste! What do we do, what do we do, what do we do?!"
Chen Changsheng slapped the back of his head.
Ning Bufan froze slightly, then heard Chen Changsheng say, "Think about it carefully."
Ning Bufan gaped at him.
The man looked back, his gaze holding a hint of a smile.
Ning Bufan's lips trembled. Chen Changsheng's voice echoed by his ear again: "We are about to hit the ground. You'd better hurry, or you really will turn into meat paste."
Chen Changsheng gave a half-smile.
Ning Bufan grew even more tense. But after a long moment of dazed helplessness, he slowly began to calm down.
"Dream, dream, dream, what dream? What the hell was it..."
"What was it..."
"What was it..."
In a single, fleeting instant, it suddenly clicked for Ning Bufan.
Instantly, a halo of Buddhist light erupted around his body, and their rapid descent abruptly slowed.
The howling wind around them gradually died down.
Slowly, everything became peaceful.
When Ning Bufan opened his eyes again, he stared blankly. There was nothing beneath his feet; he was suspended in midair.
Beside him, Mister Qingshan was already standing upon an immortal sword, watching him calmly.
"This, this..."
Ning Bufan opened his mouth, but a fresh wave of panic quickly washed over him.
Because of that sudden panic, his Divine Abilities shattered. In the blink of an eye, he began to plummet once more.
Fortunately, at the critical moment, Chen Changsheng grabbed his clothes.
Ning Bufan shrieked a couple of times. Noticing nothing else was happening, he finally opened his eyes to look.
"Huh?"
Feeling like crying but shedding no tears, he said, "Mister, since you know how to ride a sword, why didn't you use it earlier?"
Chen Changsheng chuckled. "You reap the benefits, and yet you blame This Chen?"
Ning Bufan patted his chest. "I really thought I was on my way to meet the City God."
Chen Changsheng steered him downward.
Looking out, they were met with a vast expanse of white. A towering snow mountain stood right before them.
Ning Bufan's eyes widened as he stared at the snow-capped peak piercing the clouds.
This mountain of wind and snow seemed to completely isolate two different worlds.
His gaze drifted toward the far side of the mountain.
Ning Bufan asked, "Where is that?"
Chen Changsheng paused for a moment before replying, "That is the Demon Domain. It is ruled by the Yuanshan fox clan; it is the territory of the Fox Lord."
Ning Bufan was stunned. "That place actually exists?"
"You've heard of it?"
"I heard a fox talk about it before."
"Hu Yin from the Demon Market?"
"Mister knows him too?"
"We've met a few times."
Before long, the two landed, and the Listening Rain Sword concealed itself at his side.
When Ning Bufan touched down and saw that the immortal sword had vanished, he felt a surge of curiosity.
He looked left and right, but couldn't spot it anywhere.
He figured the Mister must have hidden it somewhere on his person.
He marveled that this Mister truly kept his depths hidden. Back during the Investiture of Immortals Assembly, why hadn't he shown even the slightest hint of this magnificence?
The two stood amid the sprawling white landscape.
Ning Bufan rubbed his hands together and let out a puff of warm breath. "It sure is freezing out here."
Chen Changsheng looked up, his gaze fixing upon the peak of the mountain.
The heavy, blinding snow threatened to obscure his vision, yet it was no match for his extraordinary eyes.
In the blink of an eye, thick snow blanketed their bodies.
Even with the Buddhist light protecting his body, Ning Bufan began to feel quite uncomfortable.
The cold here was far too unnatural.
"There's something wrong with this place! Very wrong!"
Ning Bufan could sense that this was definitely no natural snowfall; it felt far more like the work of arts and techniques.
Chen Changsheng glanced at him. "This heavy snow is a phenomenon of heaven and earth. It is completely normal for you to feel cold."
Ning Bufan froze, caught by surprise.
"A phenomenon of heaven and earth?"
Ning Bufan opened his mouth and asked, "Could a natural spiritual treasure be forming here? Besides, this phenomenon is a bit... a bit..."
A bit too exaggerated, wasn't it?
Chen Changsheng looked back. "It's not a spiritual treasure."
With that, he began walking toward the mountain peak.
Ning Bufan shivered. Seeing Chen Changsheng move forward, he quickly followed close behind, trudging up the slope.
Along the way, he rubbed his hands constantly. The higher they climbed, the more severe the freezing temperature became. Eventually, the Buddhist light stopped being of any use, and his lips turned a bruised purple from the cold.
He looked up and saw that the wind and snow had already dyed Mister Qingshan's hair and clothes entirely white.
Gritting his teeth, he pushed forward.
With the blizzard blinding him, Ning Bufan had no choice but to keep his head down and watch his own feet.
The crunching of his boots sinking into the snow grated on his ears, though fortunately, the howling wind muffled it a bit.
Before he realized it, he bumped into Mister Qingshan in front of him.
He lifted his head. From not too far away, a faint floral fragrance drifted over on the wind.
Amidst that endless expanse of white, a single plum blossom tree stood in full bloom, as if to dazzle this entire heaven and earth.
