Chen Changsheng frowned slightly at those words.
He focused his divine sense once more.
Sensing it in much finer detail this time, he confirmed that the trace had been there for an exceptionally long time.
"It does look like innate damage..."
Chen Changsheng furrowed his brows, his expression shifting as he gazed at Ning Bufan.
Ning Bufan blinked, taken aback. "Mister Chen, why are you looking at me like that?"
"Just how did you survive?" Chen Changsheng could not fathom it.
Ning Bufan opened his mouth. "What do you mean by that, Mister...?"
"With innate damage this severe, there is basically no chance of survival. Yet, you lived."
He added, "I don't feel like anything is wrong, except for the occasional headache..."
For a moment, Chen Changsheng could not figure out the reason.
But recalling the state of Ning Bufan's Sea of Consciousness, he found it especially bizarre. That divine sense was like a severed lotus root with threads still connected—broken, yet maintaining countless fine links between the two ends as if formed by nature itself.
Chen Changsheng and Su Junhan stepped outside.
Su Junhan said, "Mister Chen, the state of his divine sense shouldn't be an innate condition, right?"
Chen Changsheng nodded.
Given its state, how could it possibly be innate?
Outside forces had obviously intervened; otherwise, there was no explaining those connecting threads.
However, Chen Changsheng added, "But that scar, along with the threads linking his divine sense, truly have existed since the moment of his birth."
Su Junhan paused. "That seems impossible."
Chen Changsheng pondered for a moment before saying, "It's possible someone did it deliberately, or perhaps it has to do with a past life. There is no definite conclusion, but this did give me a clue."
Su Junhan stopped walking. "That child..."
"Starting with divine sense might just break the deadlock," Chen Changsheng said.
"But a situation like Young Friend Ning's probably cannot be replicated, right?"
"Indeed."
Chen Changsheng sighed softly. "But at least I've found a direction. This Chen roughly has a plan now."
Su Junhan stared at him in surprise. "You have a method, Mister?"
"Just a clue."
Chen Changsheng said, "It will take quite a bit of effort to keep that child alive. At the very least, while she is still an infant, this won't be enough to completely resolve the issue."
"But Mister Chen, she has no way to survive..."
"When it comes down to it, it is a conflict of divine sense and consciousness. It merely requires another divine sense to mediate between them."
Su Junhan found himself unable to understand.
What did he mean by another divine sense mediating?
"This Chen plans to separate a strand of divine sense and place it into her Sea of Consciousness."
Su Junhan froze upon hearing this. "Mister Chen..."
Separating his divine sense?!
Was he joking?
"Mister Chen, how can you do that? Since ancient times, separating divine sense has always been—"
Before Su Junhan could finish, Chen Changsheng raised his hand. A strand of divine sense already rested in his palm.
Su Junhan looked over, his eyes widening in shock.
That was Mister Chen's divine sense?!
No, it was only a portion of it.
Chen Changsheng looked at him with a smile. "Isn't this a very simple matter?"
Su Junhan stood dumbfounded, wondering if his eyes were playing tricks on him.
Usually calm and collected, even he struggled to maintain his composure in that moment.
Chen Changsheng gave a warm smile and put away the divine sense. "So, there is no need to worry too much. Since This Chen dared to suggest it, I am naturally confident I can do it."
Su Junhan took a deep breath.
No matter the occasion, Mister Chen always managed to shock him. It had been the same last time by the lake, and it was the same now with splitting his divine sense.
These incomprehensible feats seemed to be nothing more than effortless gestures in Mister Chen's hands.
"Also, have those two come back," Chen Changsheng said. "They are the child's parents, after all. We must let them know."
Su Junhan snapped back to his senses and nodded.
Before long, he instructed the water demons near the sea to pass on the message.
Meanwhile, Chen Changsheng continued to ponder the issue of Tong Nianyi's conflicting divine senses.
Historically, divine sense had always been a profoundly esoteric subject.
Even though he now had a direction, he had to be extremely careful. If he made a single mistake, the child would become a cripple at best, unable to even develop her intellect in this lifetime. Losing her life entirely was an even more likely outcome.
He needed to be absolutely certain before acting.
...
Ning Bufan recovered after resting for a day.
It was also because Yuanshan lacked for nothing. Supplied with spirit plants and herbs, Ning Bufan's deficits were completely replenished.
Acting as if nothing had ever happened, he once again wandered around Yuanshan.
He peeked here and gazed there.
Sometimes he mingled in the tea houses of Yuanshan, and other times he ran into the mountains to pick and eat wild fruits. The most outrageous incident was when he accidentally stumbled into the bathing pools and was caught red-handed peeping on the spirit foxes taking a bath. If Su Junhan had not vouched for him, he would not have escaped a severe beating.
Meanwhile, out in the cultivation world.
A medicinal pestle hovered in midair. It had originally been used to pound medicinal ingredients for prescriptions, but was later refined into a dharma instrument.
Two people were currently sitting atop it.
Daoist Physician Tong Zhihuan and the peach demon, Tao'er.
Their hearts were filled with hope, but even more so with uneasy apprehension.
Tao'er said, "Husband, Nianyi can be saved this time."
Tong Zhihuan nodded. "Nianyi will definitely survive. Mister Chen will never make a mistake, he definitely won't..."
The two clasped their hands tightly, whispering reassurances to each other as they hurried toward the Demon Domain of Yuanshan.
In their early years, Tong Zhihuan and Tao'er had also tried to search for the Mister.
However, the Mister always came and went without a trace, and the child's condition could brook no delay. It was from that moment on that the two of them stepped into the cultivation world to search for a solution.
Two years had passed, and Tong Zhihuan looked noticeably more weathered. The same was true for Miss Tao'er. The two of them had rushed across the world for a single purpose: to save their daughter.
Tao'er cast one of her Divine Abilities, causing the medicinal pestle to speed up.
She shielded her husband's forehead from the wind to keep him from getting a headache.
Hurrying as fast as they could, they spent several days and consumed numerous elixir pills before finally arriving in Yuanshan.
When Chen Changsheng saw them, he noticed the exhaustion written all over their faces. Given how anxious they were, they likely had not rested for a single moment.
The husband and wife fell to their knees.
"Tong Zhihuan pays his respects to Mister Chen."
"Tao'er pays her respects to the Mister."
They kowtowed deeply before Chen Changsheng helped them back up.
Chen Changsheng glanced at the two of them.
Tong Zhihuan looked to have aged a few years, though having stepped onto the path of Cultivation, the aging wasn't too pronounced. Tao'er looked the same as she had in the past, except for the slight weariness the arduous journey had etched onto her face.
"This Chen knows you are anxious, so I won't dawdle. Let's go see the child first."
The couple exchanged a look and nodded repeatedly.
After heading to the cave abode, Tong Zhihuan and Tao'er's eyes turned red the moment they saw their sealed daughter.
Tao'er leaned against Tong Zhihuan's shoulder and began to cry.
Tong Zhihuan gently patted her back, comforting her softly.
"It's alright. Everything will be alright. Our daughter is doing just fine right now, isn't she? Don't cry..."
