Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 982: What Is Time Actually Like

They went to the nearest flying boat ferry.

Chen Changsheng boarded the ship with him.

Mister Chen felt no embarrassment. Once aboard, he went looking for the disciples of Lingyue Immortal Island.

Things did not go that smoothly, however.

Few people recognized Chen Changsheng. Hearing his request, a disciple of Lingyue Immortal Island said, "Everyone knows Senior Brother Mo Chou. Fellow Daoist, how am I supposed to know if you actually know him? Please don't make things difficult for me."

Seeing this, Chen Changsheng did not press the issue. He merely said, "This Chen was abrupt."

Watching this, Ning Bufan said, "Mister's reputation doesn't seem to carry much weight."

Chen Changsheng smiled. "Isn't this a common occurrence?"

"Let's get off the boat."

Just as the two of them reached the edge of the flying vessel, a voice called out to them.

"Wait a moment!"

They saw a disciple walking over.

He looked at the disciple who had just chased Chen Changsheng and Ning Bufan off the ship. "Senior Brother, this person is indeed well acquainted with Senior Brother Mo Chou. Furthermore, he also knows Elder He."

The senior brother froze. "Are you sure?"

"Absolutely certain. I saw it with my own eyes."

"I see..."

Chen Changsheng looked at the fellow Daoist who had spoken up for him.

He paused, somewhat surprised.

The man felt familiar, but looking at his face, he couldn't recall who it was.

However, when Chen Changsheng spread his divine sense for a slight probe, he immediately understood.

It was an old acquaintance.

The disciple looked at Mister Chen and offered a smile filled with profound meaning.

Chen Changsheng smiled warmly and cupped his hands. "Many thanks, Fellow Daoist."

"You are too polite, Mister."

Thanks to this turn of events, Ning Bufan successfully boarded the ship.

The cultivator who had spoken up for Chen Changsheng was none other than Yi Zugan, whom he had met back in the Mortal World Sea Region on the Desolate Sea.

After rescuing him from the Thirty-Third Heaven back then, Chen Changsheng had heard no news of him. The world had assumed him dead, yet he had swapped into a new physical body and appeared here.

Ning Bufan looked at Mister Chen and waved. "Mister Chen, I'm leaving!"

Chen Changsheng nodded. "Live well."

Ning Bufan stared blankly for a moment, but a hint of a smile soon appeared on his face.

He felt that he and Mister were likely the same kind of person.

Otherwise, why would he say something like "live well"?

For a wanderer like him, his only hope was probably to find a direction and a purpose. Where he came from and where he was going were questions he had to ponder for his entire life. Mister was probably the same; that was why he offered no other parting words.

Only a single phrase: live well.

The flying vessel drifted into the distance, vanishing from sight before long.

Chen Changsheng stood at the ferry port. Once his surroundings quieted, he let out a breath of relief.

The Desolate Sea was boundless, its edges nowhere to be seen.

The road ahead was long and still fraught with hurdles.

Before long, Mister's figure vanished from the spot. It was unknown where he was going, but perhaps anywhere was possible. Ultimately, as long as it was a place where he could stay and continue his Cultivation, anywhere would do.

...

Deep within the Desolate Sea, inside the Thirty-Third Heaven.

Manyue was currently reading. There was nothing interesting in Nanyuan; its most plentiful resource was a room full of books. The former owner must have loved to read. Storybooks were the most abundant, all filled with bizarre and unusual tales.

When she had nothing to do, she would sit here and read, finding scraps of amusement to pass the incomparably idle days.

"Hmm..."

Manyue lowered her hand and looked up.

She saw someone entering Nanyuan. He was vastly different from when he had left, carrying a new degree of free-spiritedness and reeking of alcohol. At his side hung an additional sword and a wine gourd.

Chen Changsheng looked over. "It has been a long time, Miss Manyue."

Manyue rolled her eyes at him. "Mister Chen has great skills, running off to the Mortal World by yourself to live so freely, leaving me here alone to work myself to death."

Chen Changsheng smiled. He walked forward, sat down, and said, "This Chen has no Magical Power and cannot help, so it was better for me to go out."

Manyue shook her head helplessly. She gave him a look. "Then why is it that you didn't have much Magical Power when you left, and you still don't have much now that you're back?"

"There was a slight accident," Chen Changsheng said.

Manyue did not ask for details, shifting the topic instead. "What about the matter of the Yellow Springs? Have you made any progress?"

Chen Changsheng said, "I found a few clues, but I encountered an obstacle."

"An obstacle?"

"Yes."

Chen Changsheng then told Manyue what he had seen and heard in the Yellow Springs.

Manyue frowned after listening.

"A person deep within the Yellow Springs..."

She had originally been a part of the Heavenly Dao, so how could she not understand the significance of the Yellow Springs? For a person to be able to hide deep within it, their abilities had to be heaven-defying.

"Other than that, chaos has risen again in the Mortal World," he added. "It is torn apart, and its qi fortune has plummeted. We cannot enter the Yellow Springs for the time being. We can only wait for an opportunity."

Manyue said, "And so you came back?"

"Where else would I go?" Chen Changsheng said.

Manyue paused. "If you want to seize the Yellow Springs, you need the help of human dao qi fortune. Can this human dao qi fortune be used by you?"

Chen Changsheng shook his head. "I have a portion of it, but I believe it is already enough."

"No wonder," Manyue said, asking no further.

She let out a breath, picked up her book, and continued reading.

Chen Changsheng suddenly brought up another matter.

"During my trip this time, I met someone particularly unusual. You will definitely be interested."

Manyue looked up. "Who is it?"

"Someone from the future," Chen Changsheng said.

Manyue frowned slightly. "Someone from the future?"

Chen Changsheng nodded. "This person came from the future to the past. His name is Jiming—like a single lamp illuminating a millennium of darkness. He is an esteemed monk of the Buddhist Faction."

Manyue fell into deep thought.

Chen Changsheng took a page of scripture from his sleeve. "This scripture is called the Scripture of the Past. It was given to This Chen by Master Wunian back when I was in the spirit cage."

Manyue was momentarily dazed, as if she had just recalled something.

"I've seen him in the flow of time."

"In the flow of time?"

"Yes."

Manyue looked at Chen Changsheng. "In the flow of time within the spirit cage, I once saw his future memories falling into the present. I didn't see anything special about it at the time, but thinking about it now, it turns out it was because of the Rebirth Scripture."

"Since it is like this, everything makes sense."

Manyue took the Scripture of the Past from Chen Changsheng's hands.

She looked it over and said, "Such a scripture indeed forges a new path. But in the end, just like the Rebirth Scripture from back then, it is an incomplete Scripture of the Past. It lacks too much. That is most likely why those who travel to the past no longer have a future."

Chen Changsheng asked, "So, what is time actually like? This Chen is quite curious."

"Perhaps it's like a river."
