After leaving Nanyuan, Chen Changsheng began searching the Cultivation World for the remaining pieces of the demonic body.
The Black Pagoda could sense demonic energy, so it naturally played a role in the search.
However, the world was vast. Searching this way was ultimately not a viable solution.
It was, without a doubt, a foolish method.
Chen Changsheng knew this, of course, but trying his luck was better than doing nothing at all.
He sought out the Desolate Sea Aquatic Tribe for information.
Some within the tribe held deep respect for Chen Changsheng, while many others hated him to the bone. This was a consequence of the changes brought about by the Dragon Scripture back then, which had cast some water demons—who otherwise would have ruled their own domains—down into the dust.
Chen Changsheng felt helpless about it but didn't argue, choosing simply to leave. Yet there were always a few blind fools who gave chase, intent on taking his life.
The outcome, however, was predetermined. With a single sweep of the Taiqing Sword, the water demons lost their lives.
A few days later, word gradually spread through the Cultivation World that Mister had appeared in the Desolate Sea.
As old tales were unearthed, people suddenly remembered the man.
"Ah, it's that Mister Chen whose abilities reach the heavens..."
"Then it's not strange at all."
Not many dared to travel alone across the Desolate Sea.
And so the news spread.
Then, several days later, the Black Pagoda reacted.
"Someone is approaching from that direction."
Chen Changsheng followed the Black Pagoda's guidance and set off in pursuit.
He encountered the newcomer.
To his surprise, it was an acquaintance.
"Mister, it has been a long time."
Jian Shenghua cupped his hands in a respectful bow.
Recovering from his surprise, Chen Changsheng said, "I didn't expect to run into you here."
Jian Shenghua replied, "I came looking specifically after hearing news of you, Mister."
The two found a place to sit and talk.
"You have been busy in the Desolate Sea these past few days, Mister. Are you searching for something?"
Chen Changsheng nodded. "Indeed."
He gave a brief explanation, though he didn't go into detail.
Jian Shenghua looked slightly dazed upon hearing this. "What a coincidence..."
"A coincidence?"
Jian Shenghua said, "My reason for seeking you out, Mister, might be connected to the head and arm you're looking for. I might know where one of those arms is."
Chen Changsheng paused. "You know?"
Jian Shenghua nodded and began recounting what he had seen and heard.
Back then, he and Mo Yu had left Yunshang Mansion to hunt down the Evil Phoenix. They first tracked it through the Cultivation World. Later, upon receiving new information, they chased it to the Mortal World, all the way to the Investiture of Immortals Assembly.
Jian Shenghua pursued with his sword, heavily injuring the Evil Phoenix and leaving a mark on it.
He and Mo Yu then continued their pursuit.
Who could have expected the Evil Phoenix to be so utterly ruthless? It severed its own arm to destroy the mark, leaving them clueless once again.
"Mo Yu and I simply decided to split up. The Evil Phoenix had taken a strike from my sword and couldn't have run far."
Jian Shenghua had chased it toward the Borderland, but the results were poor; he didn't find a single trace.
He later turned back, preparing to regroup with Mo Yu.
Mo Yu told him that he hadn't found any clues either, suggesting the Evil Phoenix might have fled the Mortal World again.
Jian Shenghua found it slightly odd, but after thinking it over, he didn't suspect anything.
It wasn't until they were leaving that he noticed a wisp of lingering demonic energy between Mo Yu's fingers.
Though it was only a tiny trace, Jian Shenghua still noticed it.
He recognized that demonic energy at a glance. It absolutely belonged to the Evil Phoenix.
"I was certain it was the Evil Phoenix's demonic energy, yet Mo Yu stated with absolute certainty that he hadn't found any traces. I felt it was strange at the time..."
Jian Shenghua continued, "I didn't press him on the matter then, and just returned to the Cultivation World with him."
"I originally wanted to find you to ask for guidance, Mister, but you never returned to Yunshang Mansion, so I had to let it go. I kept an eye on Mo Yu while searching for any trace of you, up until that day—the night of the full moon."
"Mo Yu was acting evasive. He said he had business to attend to and told me to go on ahead, saying we would meet up at the immortal island further along. I sensed something was wrong, so I attached a wisp of Sword Qi to him and feigned my departure, waiting for the right moment to turn back."
"That night happened to be the full moon."
"When I doubled back and followed the Sword Qi to find Mo Yu, he was in a deep, dark mountain thick with Yin energy."
"By then, Mo Yu had reverted to his true form and was entangled in demonic energy. At first, I thought he had run into demons causing trouble, but when I got closer, I saw that arm wreathed in demonic energy."
Jian Shenghua said, "I recognized it at a glance. It was a piece of the Demon Sovereign's corpse! It was a corpse, after all, so it was bound to grow restless on the night of the full moon. Mo Yu didn't have 'business' to attend to at all; he just wanted to hide this fact."
Chen Changsheng furrowed his brows.
Jian Shenghua continued, "Though I realized the truth, Mo Yu still noticed my slight movements."
"His eyes were blood-red. The moment he spotted me, he lunged with killing intent."
Jian Shenghua fell silent for a moment before continuing. "I didn't fight him. With that arm there, I definitely wouldn't have been a match. I managed to escape, but Mo Yu was set on killing me. Because of that, I've remained hidden within the Cultivation World all these years. It was only because I happened to hear news of you, Mister, that I took the risk to come looking."
Chen Changsheng fell into deep thought.
Seeing Mister remain silent, Jian Shenghua said, "Mister, every word I have spoken is the truth."
Chen Changsheng said, "I am not doubting your words; I am simply pondering why he would do such a thing."
Jian Shenghua replied, "I can't figure it out either."
Chen Changsheng just felt somewhat dazed. It was likely because the image he had previously held of Mo Yu was vastly different from what Jian Shenghua was describing now. Due to those preconceived notions, he still harbored some doubts.
Chen Changsheng then asked, "Do you know where he is now?"
Jian Shenghua shook his head; he did not.
Jian Shenghua cupped his hands. "This matter requires your decision, Mister."
It could only be described as a surprise.
Chen Changsheng thought it over for a moment, then said, "Regardless, we need to find him first. Otherwise, we will never understand what is truly going on."
Jian Shenghua's expression was calm, and he too fell deep into thought.
Chen Changsheng then asked, "Is he still hunting you?"
Jian Shenghua snapped out of his thoughts. "Now that I know about that arm, I imagine he won't let me off. He might not be actively searching for me, but if I were to reveal myself, he would probably come."
Chen Changsheng pondered this for a moment and asked, "Why not give it a try? We can make some noise and see if we can draw him out."
Jian Shenghua paused, then said, "I will follow your lead, Mister Chen."
Chen Changsheng nodded. The doubts in his heart had yet to be dispelled.
For now, the priority was finding Mo Yu. Only then could they uncover the full story.
He was equally suspicious of Jian Shenghua's words.
It was impossible to say for sure whether they were true or completely fabricated.
