Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Consuming The Pills

Derrick stared at the pill in his hands. Unlike the pills he had seen up until now, this one was red. So much so that it looked like it was made of blood.

The pill was smooth to touch, like candy. It had no roughness to its surface like the pill Cassandra had bought.

The last thing he noticed was his sheet was completely drenched in his sweat.

Derrick passed by Rebecca’s room, where he could hear faint conversation between her and Cassie. He did not linger and continued to the door next to hers.

The bathroom door slid open with a soft hiss, sensors picking up his presence before his hand even reached for a switch.

Soft blue light flickered on along the walls, tracing the outline of the room like veins of neon.

The floor was a seamless white material, faintly warm beneath his bare feet, self-cleaning panels humming quietly under the surface.

A holographic display blinked to life above the sink, ready to project the time, the weather, or anything he wanted.

Derrick barely spared it a glance.

His eyes were fixed on the bathtub in the corner. It was sleek, oval-shaped, carved out of some smooth composite material that looked almost like glass.

Derrick started striping as he walked towards it, his clothes falling to the ground. He did not bother to pick them up and put them in the clothing chute carved in the wall, which sucked in the dirty clothes and spat clean, dry ones in a few minutes.

A soft chime sounded as he approached the tub, and it began to fill on its own, sensing his intent.

’Convenient.’

Derrick slipped inside, without waiting for it to fill completely, and settled down in the water... No, it was not water.

It was a gel-like liquid that clung to his skin. Not only did it regulate the temperature of his body, but it also removed the dirt and impurities from the surface of his skin and moved them to the bottom, away from him.

’No point holding back now.’ Derrick ignored everything and cleared his mouth before taking out the second pill.
