Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Iris Jade
Her fingers closed around his biceps and she pulled hard. But much to her bewilderment...
He didn’t move. Not an inch.
Her brows furrowed, confusion flashing across her face before she planted her feet and pulled harder. Veins popped around her delicate neck. Muscles that were hidden before popped out a little and finally she could feel his arm move.
But it was still nowhere enough to turn him around.
The blond haired girl was not just some rich brat on a shopping spree.
She was someone who had reached Middle Stage of the Physical Strengthening Realm.
For someone her age, that kind of cultivation was nothing short of monstrous.
A genius among geniuses, the sort of talent that noble clans fought tooth and nail to recruit. Or spend millions to cultivate.
And yet, Derrick stood there like an immovable mountain, utterly unaffected by her efforts.
’What... what is he?’
It was not just her who was shocked. Derrick was surprised as well.
’Would you look at that... she is not all appearance and attitude. She has talent as well." Derrick admired her talent silently in his heart.
Some people would think that anyone with enough money and connection could instantly become a powerhouse in this world but that was not the case.
The Body Purity Index played a huge role in advancement.
The higher the index, the less time it would take for someone to absorb a pill and take another one. They would also not need to worry about accumulating impurities from the pill in their bodies.
It was ill advised to take any enhancement pill before the age of 15 as it would hinder the growth of a person.
So the reason, Derrick admired the young woman before him was that she might have been taking pills for a short while but she was already this strong.
But that did not mean she was as powerful as him. He did not know how long she had been eating pills exactly or what her exact power level was.
It did not matter to him. That simple exchange between them told him what he wanted to know. She was weaker than him.
Derrick flexed his biceps and the little his arm was moving before had stopped.
Her grip tightened, knuckles whitening, veins popping around her clenched fist.
But he was not even moving anymore.
Derrick finally turned his head, just enough to look at her over his shoulder.
His eyes were calm and unbothered like he was looking at an unruly child begging for his attention.
That look alone made her breath hitch, an inexplicable chill crawling up her spine. She released him and stumbled back a step before she even realized she’d done it.
Around them, snickers broke out from the gathered crowd, no longer bothering to hide their amusement.
"Did you see that? She couldn’t even budge him, hahaha—"
"Guess money really can’t buy everything—"
"That’s gonna leave a mark on her pride—"
"They don’t seem much different in age. Does that mean that this young man is a hunter?"
"Oh no. Better not get involved in the business of hunters. Even if he is not one, he does not seem ordinary."
Seeing the heated argument, the people started to scatter fearing something might happen and they might get injured as a result.
The young woman stood rooted to the spot. Her face flushed a deep, humiliated red, embarrassment curdling rapidly into fury. She opened her mouth, ready to unleash a string of foul curses at the man.
But Derrick had already turned the corner, vanishing into the thick of the crowd without so much as a backward glance.
"I will not let you go," she hissed under her breath, red eyes burning with resentment.
She spun on her heel and stormed toward the two guards waiting a short distance away, jabbing a finger sharply in the direction Derrick had disappeared.
"Follow him," she ordered, voice low and venomous, pitched just for their ears. "Take the old thing back from him. I would have let him have it if he had behaved properly but not only did he dare to take something that I, Iris Jade, had set my eyes on but he also dared to show me disrespect... That is unforgivable!"
"I will never forgive him. Rough him up if you have to... I don’t care how you do it. Just bring it to me."
One of the guards hesitated, glancing uneasily between her and the dispersing crowd still whispering behind cupped hands. "Young Miss... that might not be wise. Something about him felt—"
"I don’t care what he felt like." Her tone left absolutely no room for argument, sharp enough to cut.
Without waiting for a response, she was already turning away.
Her expression suddenly shifted the moment she spotted an elderly man waiting near the market’s entrance.
The transformation was instantaneous, her shoulders softened, her sharp glare rounded into something wide-eyed and innocent, the haughty young mistress from moments ago disappeared as if she’d never existed.
The current Iris looked like an innocent young woman who was had only seen goodness in everyone and everything.
"Grandfather~" she called sweetly, practically skipping the last few steps to loop her arm through his, voice dripping with practiced, saccharine charm. "Can we get some candied hawthorns before we head back? Pretty please?"
"Of course, anything for my sweet princess. I am still surprised you asked me to come to this place for shopping." The old man chuckled warmly, reaching over to pat her head with obvious fondness, utterly oblivious to the storm of malice that had been brewing just moments ago.
"I was looking for a gift for you. Your birthday is coming soon. But sadly someone bought the only thing I liked in this dum— oddly nice place."
"Haha" The old man let out a hearty laugh before pulling the young woman in her arms from the side. "I am happy that my lovely grand daughter remembers this old man’s birthday. It does not matter if you give me a gift or not. Since I have lovely grandchild as you, I have everything I need, forget about the gift."
"Ugh! Stop it grammy, your beard is stabbing my soft face." Iris pouted innocently but in her heart she coldly whispered, ’Forget it? Never!’
