Chapter 33: Chapter 33: The Second Power Test

"You have already seen the cardio section and the weights sections. Let me show you the ring." He took Derrick to the basement of the building where he could hear dull sounds that could be guessed as someone pouring out their feelings on a punching bag or someone having rough sex with a very plump woman even before they entered the room.

Fortunately, it was not the second.

The place was dimly lit, but it was perfect for the mood and focus needed for someone to train here.

The boxing ring in the middle of the room was occupied by two people who were going at it with a speed where even Derrick could not follow their movements easily.

Smack!

Thud!

"Come on, is that all you got?! Hit me!" The standing boxer shouted at the man lying on the ground while gesturing at the man with both hands to get up. They were wearing nothing but shorts.

WOOOOOO!!!!

The whole room was crazy.

Derrick was itching to join them, but he knew this was not the place or the time for him to step in and ask for a match.

"Is there anything else that I have yet to see?" He asked the middle-aged trainer with a rough beard and rugged looks.

"Of course, there is our main attraction. The Diagnostic Chambers. I know it’s a weird name, but the owner named it herself." With a laugh, the man dressed in red shit and black pants took him to the second floor.

"Have you seen RhoTech’s Combat Simulation Chambers? It is just like that but old school." The trainer patted Derrick’s back, signaling him to follow. "Despite the old tech, that shit works, man. Even if you are an Enhanced Being, it can calculate your physical prowess accurately."

Neither of them realized that a pair of brown eyes were following them from the shadows of the pillars of the basement floor.

The second floor looked the most lavish.

It was empty and closed off with a glass door and scanner lock. There was a number pad and a card reader on lock.

"You cannot enter this place without a trainer. It is free for the first time, but every second time you use it, you need to pay 500 credits." As he tapped his card on the scanner, the trainer narrated to him the details of the room.

This is a whole lot cheaper than what I paid at that place. Derrick thought to himself, recalling the Ai named Risa.

The door flipped open to reveal a next-generation technology base.

There were two sections.

One had a running track and the other had a series of machines with punching bags.

They were sleek, humming things with holographic readouts that looked wildly out of place bolted to a plain gym with a weird name like this.

Clearly they looked old and worn out and nothing like the exquisite tech he had seen at RhoTech’s Training Center.

"Not many gyms have these machines. Only a few guild-affiliated gyms and some expensive ones." The trainer looked oddly proud as he said that.

Just as he was about to continue, something beeped in his pocket.

"Give me a sec, will you?" The trainer took out his phone and read the message he had just received. Derrick had never seen someone’s face turn pale so fast before.

"I—I have to go; my job might just be in danger. You can use this place and just close the doors after you." He stammered for a second, forcing a smile before running out of the room, leaving a baffled young boy behind.

"Did something happen?"

"I don’t know yet. You should be able to handle this yourself; it is not complicated." On his way out, he shouted, "Don’t break anything, okay!"

Derrick stood there alone for a second, looking at the open doors, wondering what just happened.

Then he shook his head and walked up to one of the punching machines.

There was a small holographic image of instructions on the side of each machine.

After reading it, he walked over to the machine and adjusted the Dial.

Once Derrick selected the second option, he could practically hear the gears inside the machine turning. Several lights glowed on the side as new parts popped out of the machine before settling back inside.

It was like the machine was going through an upgrade just to hold his punch.

Derrick walked back to the marked spot on the ground and took a stance.

’Just like the last time... Punch with the whole body.’ Twisting his waist, he pulled his arm back, and then like a ball released from a cannon, his fist shot forward and struck the padded side with a...

Bang!

The numbers rolled on the screen before they settled.

Derrick did two more tries, and the result was the same.

Satisfied, he moved on to the other section, the one with the race track.

He did the same selection process he did before on the camera facing the track and walked to the starting point.

After running at full speed for a short distance of five meters, Derrick stopped and moved to the main computer in the middle of the room.

From the start to the end, even with his sharp senses, he never even noticed the woman standing near the entrance, half-hidden behind a support column, who had been watching every single rep since the moment he walked in.

She was a tall woman with a faint muscular body that was wrapped snugly by her training outfit.

You could even see a faint outline of abs on her exposed stomach.

She was wearing a black crop top with a purple-black open jacket and matching tights that defined the curves of her body, doing them the justice they deserved.

She had sharp cheekbones; dark hair with violet highlights, pulled back into a tight ponytail that swung with her every movement; and eyes that missed nothing.

She watched Derrick’s back as he looked at the computer and his front as he left the room without even noticing her presence.

Only when he closed the door and walked away did she step out from the spot and walk into The Diagnostic Chambers with a card that she took out after digging around in her cleavage.

She pulled up the record of his session without missing a beat.

Her mouth curved, slow and knowing, like she’d expected exactly that and found it entertaining anyway.

"Cute," she murmured, fingers already moving across the interface, cutting past the standard access layer into something considerably less public. "But I am the owner of this place; you can’t hide anything from me, brat."

A string of override commands scrolled past too fast for anyone without training to follow.

The screen flickered, resisted for exactly two seconds, and gave way.
