Immortality Starts With Selling Pills
Chapter 41: The Test Of Instructor ChenChapter 41: Chapter 41: The Test Of Instructor Chen
"Because talent like yours doesn’t grow on trees, and frankly, I’m bored." She said it flatly."I’ve run this gym for three years, and I’ve taught at the academy for over five."
"Do you know how many people walk through either door with something actually worth building on?"
"Maybe five."
"That is in total. And I only bother training people who can keep up with the intensity I bring." Her gaze sharpened. "You’re the first in four years who’s made me want to bother."
"I won’t waste your time with some useless test. But I need to know you’re worth investing in. For the next year, I’ll train you to my full capacity, but you’ll show me results."
"And what do I get in return?" Derrick asked, arms crossing.
"Sounds like you are just using my body for your own amusement and interests."
"If I’m putting up with your demands, I should be compensated. I can get stronger without you. All I have to do is just take some pills. I can probably hire some instructor to know how to fight."
Keira’s eyebrows shot up.
Then she laughed. Like a bark.
"Bhwahaaa!" Her laugh made the people around the area flinch. They did not even dare to listen in on their conversation any longer and rushed out to save their lives.
"The demon is laughing. She is clearly up to no good. Let’s go before she drags her into one of her whims."
"Yeah. I forgot to feed my baby today. I will go back home, you should continue today’s workout alone."
"Bro, you are 40 and still single. When did you get a baby?"
The man did not even wait for him to continue and rushed out of the Gym. He was not the only, there were many others who decided they had some work and would come back to the gym after some time.
Keira did not even bother to look in their direction and let them run away because right now she had an even better toy to play with.
"Hire an instructor? With what money?" She shook her head. "Kid, I’m probably a hundred times better than whatever washed up trainer your little savings could afford."
She tapped her own chest.
"I’m a weapons master. Not some gym rat who counts reps for a living. I know techniques that could turn you into something real. Not only would you be the most dangerous man in the city by the time I am done with you but you will also receive tons of offers from Guilds, begging for you to join them." Her eyes glinted. "And I’ve already reached the Superpower Stage."
Derrick blinked.
’Superpower Stage.’
He didn’t know exactly what that meant yet, not in detail, but he knew enough. It was leagues above where he stood now. Leagues above anything he could buy with pills alone.
It was said that a Superpower Stage Being was capable of crushing cars and tanks with their bare hands.
’Okay. This changes things. Now, I only have one thing left to do...’
Without any shame, he snapped his hand up in a mock salute.
"Junior Derrick, Reporting for duty." He kept his face straight. "When do we start?"
Keira stared at him for a second. Then she laughed again, this one was longer and much more genuine than the one before.
"Not so fast." She held up a hand. "I don’t take students on a whim. You want in, you prove it first. Just because you are a genius with 80% Body Purity Index does not make you special. All genius and non genius are trash in my eyes until they can stand on par with my standards."
"Prove what?"
"Fight me." She said it like she was ordering coffee. "Everything you’ve got. I won’t use my ability. I will even restrict my strength to your level. It will be a battle of pure skill and battle IQ. You land one hit on me, just one, and I’ll take you as my student."
Derrick’s stomach tightened.
Fight her? The Sexy Superpower Stage lady? Okay, the sexy part was not really necessary, but the blaring fact is right before my eyes. In fact, Derrick was having trouble keeping his eyes from going down. Naturally, Keira had noticed his subtle glances, but she did not mind.
After all, Derrick was not the first one who had looked at her like that. But it did disappoint her a little, the fact that he could not control himself from giving in to his primal urges.
"And if I win?" Derrick asked, forcing his eyes to look into hers.
"You won’t." There was not even a shred of mocking or joking tone in her voice. "But if you manage to land that one hit, I’ll pull some strings. Get you into Golden Dawn Academy. Directly as a second year student. Of course you will also become my student and gain all the benefits I listed before."
Derrick’s jaw nearly dropped.
Second year, huh. Do I really want to join a guild academy? I guess we will see when the time comes, the other benefits are already quite alluring.
He didn’t need to think twice.
"Deal."
...
The basement of the gym smelled like sweat and rubber.
A boxing ring sat in the middle, ropes worn soft from years of hands gripping them. A few hunters were already sparring inside, trading heavy jabs, grunting with each hit.
Keira didn’t slow down as she approached.
"Out."
One word. That was all she gave them.
"Who dares—"The two fighters in the ring stopped fighting and turned their heads with scowls already forming on their face. They were ready to snap the head of whoever had the nerve to interrupt their session.
Then they saw who it was.
"I Dare. Any problems?" Keira smirked at them, crossing her arms below her chest.
The scowls dropped instantly.
Derrick saw fear flashing through the eyes of grown ass man. They scrambled out of the ring without another word, ducking under the ropes so fast one of them nearly tripped over his own feet.
Derrick watched it happen and felt something cold settle in his gut.
That’s the kind of fear you can’t fake. Can I really win this challenge?
He climbed into the ring after her, ducking through the ropes, boots landing on canvas worn smooth from years of use.
Keira rolled her shoulders once, stepping into the center, hands loose at her sides.
Derrick did the same, settling into a stance. Spreading out his feet, he took a basic boxing stance.
His heart was pounding and it was not from excitement.
Don’t think about the bullet. Don’t think about Kenny’s boot in your ribs. This is different from before, this is just a test.
He forced a slow breath through his nose.
Keira watched him with sharp, patient eyes, the faintest smile still tugging at her lips.
"Whenever you’re ready," she said.
