Earth.

More than a year has passed since the arrival of mana and the opening of the first <Gate>.

The world had changed abruptly, and humanity had been on the verge of being overrun.

Now, however, mana had grown dense in areas where [Gates] and <Hunters> were abundant and in constant flux.

It was in these mana-rich zones where a new breed of humanity was slowly being cultivated.

"Ice Arrow!"

"Fireball!"

"Earth Grasp!"

"Mana Bolt!"

Spells of various kinds were being shot at training dummies, wreaking... mild havoc.

However, despite the underwhelming display, the spectators’ eyes were glowing with excitement.

Magic!

Humanity had once thought it was a mere fantasy. Now, such magical abilities had appeared on Earth, allowing anyone with enough diligence or luck to learn them.

Among these spectators was Louis Hilves, gazing upon these newly dubbed ’Mages’ with envy.

"Sigh, I wonder if I can incorporate some magic into my fighting style."

Looking at his stats, Louis couldn’t help but dream.

[Name: Louis Hilves]

[Level: 44 » 79]

[Health: 520/520 » 900/900]

[Mana: 90/90 » 100/100]

[Physique: 52 » 90]

[Mind: 69 » 99]

[Spirit: 9 » 10]

[Trait: (NEW!) Draconic Strength (A-Rank), Draconic Pressure (A-Rank), (NEW!) Mana Coating (B-Rank), Telekinesis (C-Rank), Spear User (D-Rank) » Spear Veteran (C-Rank)]

[NEW!]

[Class: Warrior]

[Martial Arts: Swallow’s Three Movements, Sky Charge, Shooting Star Spear, Blade’s Distance]

His Spirit stat, said to be the most important stat for any aspiring Mage, had experienced only a single point of growth despite his massive rise in Levels.

Louis felt his dreams dissipate even before they formed.

"Sigh..."

Despite having learned a few more martial arts, none of them were as fancy as a single wave of his spear with his <Trait>, <Mana Coating>, which left behind a gleam of mana wherever he slashed.

If he could light his spear of fire... or slam it into the ground to create a domain of ice...

"Ah, how unfortunate."

Louis almost sighed a third time. However, he still stopped himself upon realizing how useful it would be to have mages in his guild.

His face fell into crumpled contemplation, scouting for a mage he could power level and eventually add to his personal party.

Indeed... Louis was no longer alone.

He was the leader of the Wrath of Dragons Guild, with more than a hundred subordinates who would move out with a single word from him.

All of them were elites, making them the fourth-strongest hunter guild on Earth.

To maintain their ranking, they needed to cultivate their own group of elite mages. Otherwise, the newer [Gates] that opened up would become too difficult to endure with their martial prowess alone.

Many of the top guilds had already suffered from the lack of utility whenever they ran through the newer [Gates], even if the [Gates] were of a much lower level than they were capable of.

A lack of food.

A lack of water.

A lack of terrain adaptability.

And many more.

Porters weren’t enough to transport all their loot anymore. Now, they needed magic porters who could shrink the space in their bags and lighten the weight of the raw materials they harvested.

Furthermore, every guild was desperately looking for support-related professions.

Enchanters and Healers were the most sought-after Classes at the moment, with an unimaginable demand.

Every Healer in existence had already been recruited... By hook or by crook.

Hunters were no longer so willing to walk into danger without the presence of a proper Healer.

The fear of death was simply too strong.

Just thinking about this gave Louis a growing headache that never left.

"Leader, are you alright?"

The soothing voice of his Vice-Leader and girlfriend entered his ears. After glancing over the sword hanging at her waist and admiring the deep-purple hair cascading down her shoulders, Louis shrugged.

"Ah, Nicole... I would like to say that I’m fine, but there’s just so much to worry about nowadays."

Louis somewhat missed the ’simpler’ life of kill, eat, and survive. Now that he had to think about slowly rebuilding a ruined world...

All of his responsibilities became a weight.

"Even my Level has stagnated a bit. I still haven’t hit Level 80 after all this time. The other guild leaders are facing the same issue."

Nicole pursed her lips.

"Hey, don’t beat yourself up. The recent Gates hardly provide those at Level 70 and up with enough EXP. Progress has been slow when it comes to individual strength. That’s why we’ve all established this guild system in the first place. We need to make sure the rest of humanity catches up..."

A grimace coursed through Nicole just as she made it to that thought. Instead, Louis finished the thought for her.

"Before the Level 80 Gates appear and another wave of hordes arrive..." Louis’ expression darkened. "Right. Let’s do what we can."

The stagnation had happened after every 10 levels past 50. Apparently, higher-level Gates needed a certain accumulation before they appeared.

But whenever they finally did...

A lot of people died. Newly raised fortresses would be flattened in days.

Wrath of Dragons used to be the 7th-Ranked Guild, but four of their competitors had vanished when the Level 60+ and Level 70+ Gates appeared.

Everyone was scrambling to get stronger.

***

In another world.

Aventine had used the Gaea System as a bridge to update himself on his homeworld’s matters. Upon seeing the most recent developments, he was rather amused.

It was like reading a book entitled [The World Ended and Gates Appeared: What Now?] and getting new Chapters every second.

So many things were happening back at home while he was preparing to become an adventurer.

However, Aventine was not going to be the type of adventurer who hunted monsters and fought in dungeons. Instead, he opted to become a scout—or an information-type adventurer who made a living off of discovery.

There were a lot more of such adventurers here in Walvaskaz. With so much history to uncover, there was a steady market.

This way, Aventine could pour in more hours into searching for more <Traits>, studying Walvaskaz’ history to decipher the progress of its grand game, as well as earning a sufficient living to maintain his comfortable lifestyle.

Of course, having half a kingdom’s treasury could let most people in the world live a long life of debauchery.

However, Aventine couldn’t be bothered by such a languid, vegetable-like lifestyle.

Being chained by comfort was still being shackled at the end of the day.

And he... was a free spirit.

While Aventine was busy summarizing his thoughts, something piqued his interest.

A few blocks away, familiar faces appeared—it was Clementine, Kuvie, and Reazue.

"Eh?"

For some reason, they were searching for Taylor?
