In Another World with Absolute Awareness
Chapter 47: Ever-Chaotic World - IV"Here is your Adventurer’s Emblem. Since you paid for the highest-tier emblem, it has been enchanted with [Return] and can therefore never be lost. No matter where you are in the world, as long as the emblem can sense you, it will reappear in your hand upon your command. There is also the..."
Listening to the clerk introduce the various features and benefits of my Adventurer’s Emblem, I found myself admiring their attention to detail.
From an automatic [Return] enchantment to the [Blood & Soul Identification] feature, all of these things were apparently only available to adventurers who visited Walvaskaz.
Unless the relevant craftsmen and enchanters began working among the Adventurer’s Guild branches in Leisha, only the empire’s adventurers could enjoy its benefits.
Of course, several emblems were always being distributed to the branches in Leisha. However, demand was never-ending, and they were always short on the highest-tier emblem.
Only the best among Leisha’s adventurers—like Heaven’s Grasp—could afford the highest tier.
Those in Walvaskaz, however, enjoyed it even as mere D-Ranks—at least, if you saved up for a few years.
Most of the empire’s adventurers got the highest-tier emblem when they were promoted to B-Rank.
As for me... well, I was rich.
Despite being an F-Rank, I already owned the highest-tier emblem. It was the bliss gifted by the highest-level thievery.
"...And that’s about it. Do you have any questions, Adventurer Aventine?"
The clerk—a red-skinned, red-haired Salamanderspawn with beautiful crystalline scales along her nape and chest—finally completed the compulsory introduction.
Hearing her question, I smiled and shook my head.
"I have none. Thank you so much for helping me, Miss Lianna."
"Alright, then... Happy adventuring!"
Waving towards the clerk who had to go to another aspiring adventurer, I left.
The central building looked like a church but with domes instead of spires. It gleamed with pearlescent ivory walls and tall marble pillars.
It was the grandeur expected of the only branch in Grakkis.
"With this, I’m an adventurer."
A wave of noise greeted me when I stepped outside.
Holding my Adventurer’s Emblem, I made my way to the guild’s Quest Hall.
With my goal to make the best use of my time in the Layers Beneath, which I aptly named, as I was tired of just calling it the bland underground, I planned on taking a few scouting quests.
There was a reason for this beyond just being efficient.
I had studied the Game of Walvaskaz a little further. It was, in a way, a chess game using <Fate>. Tying strings and knots together, forming webs to ensnare anyone born at a certain time and space...
It all hinged on how the Law of Fate tended to create connections.
Thus, I had to ride the many strings of <Fate> by throwing myself into the empire’s wide web.
"Heh," I chuckled at my own joke as I arrived at the Quest Hall.
Looking at the bustling building built out of wood and stone, the already myriad races became even more myriad with the adventurers’ tendency towards individuality. I saw trinkets pierced into tails and horns, custom armors that fit their different body types, and colorfully dyed fur.
There were multiple instances where I had to dodge a few tails with sharp, bladed steel points at the end.
"... They really crammed way too many people into this city."
I walked in and headed to the humongous bulletin board, which was more of a wall than a board. A huge crowd barred me from getting to close.
The quests I would accept would have been placed there by others—who were likely to be pawns, both big and small. Their goals would thus become my goals temporarily.
It would serve as a good guide to see what they wanted to do.
After I decipher which hints to use, [Absolute Awareness] can handle the rest.
Unfortunately, there were too many quests to look through. I could read through all of them at a glance, but that didn’t mean my brain could keep up.
<Perfect Estimate> still wasn’t enough.
"Ugh..."
I craved the rest of Bhulmasine’s eyes.
Massaging my temples, I went to grab the few quests that intrigued me. This time, I didn’t make a decision based on logic and chose at random.
After all, it was just my first set of quests as an F-Rank adventurer. The quests available to me drew closer to the mundane.
—Swish.
Walking into the crowd of rowdy adventurers, I dodged a flailing limb. Then, I squeezed past a group of hurried elves before noticing a familiar piece of paper.
Ah...
"...I failed to consider this despite it already being right in my face. Shit."
Because I had to struggle through the crowd of F-Rank adventurers, I missed almost half of the quests I eyed.
Someone had taken those damn requests before I could.
In the end, I summoned a gust of wind and grabbed the three I wanted most.
[ Explore the ruins underneath Building 103F-C4 in the Höwerwaslis District (F-Rank Minimum, 21 Silver) ]
[ Navigate the Crypt of the Skeleton King Kirivan for the C-Rank Party, Very Sighed (F-Rank Minimum, must be familiar with Skeleton King’s Crypt, 33 Silver) ]
[ Locate the lost baby drakon around the Höwerwaslis District (F-Rank Minimum, 180 Silver) ]
With a sigh, I turned around. A large chunk of mana vanished from my Mana Cores.
[Absolute Awareness] blanketed the Soulless City.
In the blink of an eye, I located three points of interest:
A grey building that housed a school for young halflings.
A crypt that could lead deep into the Layers Beneath.
And finally, a lost baby drakon hiding in an abandoned storefront’s cabinet.
"Easy enough."
A map of the ruins beneath Building 103F-C4 filled my mind. Then, I looked at what remained of its crumbling tunnels.
"Hm."
Just like I did before, I gathered information from the present day, deducing the world of the past.
Radiocarbon dating, magnetometry, resistivity surveys, and any fossilized remains.
Residual mana, the influx of radiant particles, and any soul-based corruption from a possible undead.
With it, I gained an understanding of what it had been and what could have been stored there.
I then did the same for the crypt, obtaining a layout of its sections while confirming the presence of monsters and their relative patrol range.
As for the baby drakon...
"Hm, let’s go get the little guy first. The others can wait."
Looking at its empty stomach, I already knew that the drakon was starving.
I made my way over with haste.
