In Another World with Absolute Awareness
Chapter 49: Ever-Chaotic World - VIThe <Power of Death> Aventine used amounted to less than 40% of its true strength.
Corresponding to just a little above a D-Rank <Trait>, the invisibility he wielded was exactly the strength needed to elude Kuvie’s strongest tracking ability.
...At least, it was stronger than a C-Rank spell lacking its caster’s mastery. Such was the nature of <Traits>, unreasonable and perfect.
<Life Sense> was therefore rendered null and void, while making sure that Aventine’s information would not immediately spread to Kuvie’s higher-ups.
There was a need to hide the cards that one was dealt, after all.
Especially in this millennia-old game of chess.
This was exactly why Nievelt—Kuvie’s captain—was sure that Aventine would show himself. The squad captain was a Sonarium, a race born from the union of two beautiful races—the merfolk and the elves.
This gave him an affinity for both Nature Magic and water-attributed mana.
"Found him,"
Nievelt’s eyes gleamed as he sensed an incongruous presence in the water around him. Something was moving at high speeds, yet remained unseen and restrained.
The water parted around it as if welcoming it in its ever-expanding embrace, sending not a ripple outwards.
There was no such disturbance just a few minutes earlier.
Hence.
—[On me. Follow my marker.]
A wisp of mana separated from Nievelt as he proceeded through the chaotic aquatic slums.
The other members of his squad would understand where to go from there.
He was confident of success.
After all...
’Master gave us that just in case.’

After learning that Nievelt’s trump card was a magical mutagen, Aventine laughed.
Since the captain of the squadron had so kindly made the relevant information rise to the surface of his consciousness, the expenditure of [Absolute Awareness] was optimized.
"What a steal~"
Aventine had also learned about <Angel’s Bane> from Kuvie and her squadmates. It was, apparently, an organization hell-bent on hunting <Beings of Light>.
In a way, they were blasphemers, but this concept intrigued him to no end.
He had a suspicion.
[Absolute Awareness].
"Hm? My suspicions are wrong?"
He totally thought that the <Queen of Demons>, the original <Hero of Leisha>, was a part of this ancient organization. Why weren’t the demons, antithetical as they were to <Beings of Light>, not a part of <Angel’s Bane>?
Aventine wanted to know, but the expenditure was worth more than even the entire mana supply of the <Wyrm With No Name>.
—[ DON’T YOU DAREEEEEEEE! ]
As if summoned by such terrifying thoughts, the <Wyrm With No Name> screamed into his mind.
Annoyed, Aventine decided to siphon half of the worm’s entire reserves and searched for the current goal of <Angel’s Bane> in targeting the baby drakon.
The answer was rather curious.
[Dragons are mortal Gods].
Despite using half of the worm’s reserves, all he retrieved were those words. Not even an image or any kind of thought.
"I guess I’m not surprised."
***
All three groups have finally noticed me.
The squad from <Angel’s Bane> was the first to react to my presence, followed by the Ralle Family, and lastly, my employer’s Silo Family.
In terms of raw stats and the strength available to my <Class>, I was at a massive disadvantage. I was a mere Third-Circle Mage who had yet to unlock all the spells I stole from an <Archmagus>.
Furthermore, with how much I used my Gift, my reserves weren’t at their peak.
With just these cards in the game, my best bet would be to join up with my employers’ agents on the field. Then, with [Absolute Awareness], locating the baby drakon would be easy.
It would be worth the F-Rank rating.
However, I had six other cards that could annihilate all of them on their own.
<Power of the Sea> would probably wipe this entire part of the city off the map.
<Power of the Sky> would be a bit stupid to use because of the way electricity worked.
As for <Power of Death>, well, I could slit their throats without them ever figuring out where I was—it was strong enough to hide my identity from the senses of an <Archmagus> for a while.
Then, there was the <Blessing of Light>, my <Sword of Light>, and the <Wyrm With No Name>.
My safety was all but guaranteed—at least, if I wanted to become a pawn in the great Game of Walvaskaz.
Since my goal was to become a chess player in secret, I had to separate those six cards from my current display.
Thus.
—Swish!
I took a detour, spotting a face I had identified as belonging to the Silo Family’s agents.
Appearing in front of the agent, I watched as she almost stabbed me by reflex.
"Oh!" I dodged the blade while speaking. "You’re from the Silo Family, right? Quick. Let’s team up! I can’t fight them all—but I’ve located the drakon needed for the quest!"
The agent’s eyes shook, barely keeping up with the surge of information.
—Boom!
A metal weapon pierced through the water, baring three razor-sharp spear points.
The trident in Nievelt’s hands was about to skewer us both.
With a loud clang, the agent—Roa, a Snakespawn like Clementine—parried the trident and rushed into Nievelt’s range, rising above the building we used as cover.
I willed the water to move and mixed my mana into it at the same time.
[Manakinesis].
A powerful force pulled Nievelt even closer to Roa. The latter’s eyes flashed with lethality.
Unfortunately—
—Swish!
Nievelt unsheathed a dagger, diverting Roa’s lung and sending her hurtling behind him. Instead of fighting the Silo Family agent, his target was me.
"Heh,"
With a chuckle, I swung my fist.
—Vwhoom!
Adding just the right amount of output from the <Power of the Sea>, I slammed Nievelt down onto the dilapidated building beneath me.
Then, I kicked off at the same time and dodged the eruption of a pair of tentacles.
"A Merman with transformation abilities?"
A beautiful face emerged from the dilapidated building, wielding eight tentacles like an octopus, with four sprouting from each shoulder.
I waved my hand again.
—Vwaaasaaaah!
A surge of water almost washed the Merman away.
Seeing this, I feigned a frown.
"Oi, Roa! Where are your friends?"
Gotta keep up the act, ain’t I right?
