Infinite Cashback: My God-Tier Cashback System
Chapter 217: Putting On A Show"Sophie?"
After assigning everyone their tasks, Luca had just stepped out of the conference room when he noticed Sophie Kennedy leaning against the wall outside.
The moment she saw him, her eyes brightened.
She hurried over, leaned forward slightly with both hands tucked behind her back, and smiled.
"Luca, I want to come with you."
He reached out and gently ruffled her hair, his eyes softening.
"Alright."
As they walked down the corridor together, several employees from Stone Free Grand Hotel couldn’t help stealing glances at them.
Was that really their boss?
The way he looked at the young woman...
It was as though the cold, decisive man they knew had vanished completely.
People really were different.
Sophie was simply too adorable.
Even someone as composed as their boss couldn’t hide the tenderness in his eyes.
After helping her into the back seat, Luca suddenly paused.
"Where’s little Daisy?"
"Mom’s with her." Sophie smiled reassuringly. "She’s doing a little better today than yesterday."
"That’s good."
He gently rubbed the back of her hand.
"Once this is over, we’ll take Daisy to a specialist hospital for a full check-up."
"Mmm."
Sophie nodded obediently before resting her head against his shoulder.
"I’ll listen to whatever you decide."
Not long afterward, the convoy arrived at Sophie’s apartment complex.
Even before getting out of the car, they noticed a large crowd gathered beneath one of the residential buildings.
It was the very building where Sophie lived.
"They’re efficient."
Luca narrowed his eyes slightly.
"They managed to find your address this quickly."
The windows were still rolled up, yet the loud cries outside could already be heard clearly.
"My husband was killed by the people living on the fifth floor!"
A woman sobbed dramatically as she wiped nonexistent tears from her face.
"They hit him with their car and refuse to pay a single cent!"
"My life is ruined..."
"They’ve all run away! They don’t have a shred of conscience!"
Beside her, another voice rang out.
"My brother died because of that family!"
"We’re not leaving until they give us an explanation!"
The crowd immediately erupted into discussion.
"The fifth floor? Isn’t that Diana’s family?"
"That can’t be right."
"Diana’s such a kind person."
"She doesn’t seem like someone who’d hit someone and then run away."
"And both of her daughters are so polite. They greet everyone they meet."
"I don’t really believe these people."
"So where did Diana’s family go? We haven’t seen them all day."
"...Could they really be hiding?"
The neighbors who knew Diana personally looked unconvinced.
Others, however, were beginning to waver.
Seeing that public opinion wasn’t completely on her side, Patricia lowered her head.
A trace of resentment flashed across her eyes before disappearing.
When she looked up again, she’d already replaced it with a pitiful expression.
"If they’re innocent..."
"Then why haven’t they come out to face us?"
"My husband died because of them."
"And now they’ve disappeared."
"Are widows like us supposed to be bullied?"
Just as she prepared to continue manipulating the crowd...
A calm, authoritative voice cut through the noise.
"Ma’am."
"I’ve recorded everything you’ve said."
"If you don’t apologize to Ms. Sophie Kennedy immediately, I have every right to sue you for malicious defamation and spreading false information."
The crowd instinctively parted.
Patrick Halloway adjusted his tie as he walked forward with steady, confident steps.
Behind him came Luca, holding Sophie’s hand.
Watching Patrick’s back, Luca couldn’t help curling his lips.
’He’s putting on quite a show.’
As expected of a lawyer.
The moment legal matters were involved, his entire aura changed.
Every step radiated confidence.
No...
It was more than confidence.
The man genuinely enjoyed moments like this.
To be honest, using someone of Patrick’s caliber for such a minor dispute was almost a waste of talent.
Whether it was a billion-dollar commercial lawsuit or a neighborhood quarrel...
Patrick approached every case with exactly the same professionalism.
Especially when it involved people important to Luca.
His boss valued his family above everything else.
Protecting them was simply part of Patrick’s job.
"Who are you?"
Patricia glared at him fiercely.
"This has nothing to do with you."
Patrick’s expression remained calm.
"My name is Patrick Halloway."
"I’m an attorney."
He looked directly at Patricia and Theodore Fark.
"I’m giving both of you five seconds."
"Apologize to my client, Ms. Kennedy."
"If you refuse, this recording will be handed over to the police."
"And then..."
"You’ll discover that slandering someone carries legal consequences."
He adjusted his glasses.
A polite smile rested on his face.
To everyone watching...
He looked refined and approachable.
To Patricia and Theodore...
That smile was downright terrifying.
Theodore’s expression changed first.
Unlike Patricia, he’d spent years living in larger cities.
He’d dealt with plenty of lawyers before.
Everything about Patrick...
His composure.
His confidence.
Even the way he spoke...
Was identical to the top lawyers he’d encountered.
No...
Even more intimidating.
This wasn’t someone they wanted to provoke.
If they’d been telling the truth, they wouldn’t have feared a lawyer.
Unfortunately...
They knew perfectly well they were twisting the facts to manipulate public opinion and pressure the other side into paying more compensation.
Everything had been going exactly as planned.
Until this lawyer appeared.
Patrick glanced at his watch.
"Five."
"Four."
"Three..."
"I’ll apologize!"
Patricia panicked before he could continue.
"I’ll apologize!"
She didn’t understand much about the law.
But she understood one thing.
Once the police got involved...
Things would no longer be settled with a simple apology.
There was also another reason.
One she desperately couldn’t allow anyone to uncover.
Patrick looked at her with open disdain.
"So spineless."
Several people in the crowd immediately laughed.
Patricia lowered her head even further, her face burning with embarrassment.
Patrick ignored her completely.
Instead, he shifted his attention to Theodore.
"What about you?"
Theodore cleared his throat awkwardly.
"I... I’m willing to apologize."
"It was all a misunderstanding."
"I didn’t fully understand the situation..."
He had no choice.
Originally, he’d intended to pressure the Kennedy family through public opinion and squeeze as much money out of them as possible.
Who would’ve thought the other side would bring in such a formidable lawyer?
Before he could finish speaking...
Luca suddenly stepped forward.
Smack!
The crisp slap echoed through the courtyard.
A bright red handprint instantly appeared across Theodore’s face.
Luca calmly accepted the white handkerchief someone handed him.
As he wiped his hand, he looked straight at Theodore.
"You said you were confused."
"So I gave you a slap to help clear your head."
His voice was calm.
Almost gentle.
But every word carried unmistakable warning.
"Remember this."
"There are some people you don’t get to frame."
He paused, his eyes turning cold.
"Especially..."
"My woman."
