Infinite Cashback: My God-Tier Cashback System
Chapter 227: Moving Into Stillwater Bay!A few days later, at Ashford First Hospital.
"Mr. Hale... what about me?"
Quincy Patel stepped out of the hospital room with a thermos in hand, his eyes swollen and red from lack of sleep. He paused outside the window, staring at his mother, who had only been moved out of surgery a few hours earlier. Relief flickered across his face when he saw her resting peacefully, but it was quickly swallowed by guilt.
"Is everything taken care of?" Luca Hale asked quietly.
Quincy nodded. "I hired a full-time caregiver. She’ll look after my mom from now on."
"Then don’t waste any more time."
Luca gave a small wave.
"Go."
Quincy’s crime was unforgivable. No matter the circumstances, innocent people had died because of him, and the law had to deal with that. Allowing him to surrender voluntarily was already more mercy than most people would have received, and only because he had genuinely cared for his mother.
He hadn’t completely abandoned his conscience.
Whether he ended up serving ten years, twenty years, or life behind bars no longer concerned Luca.
Even so, Luca wasn’t naive enough to trust him completely.
Several of his men quietly followed Quincy all the way to the police station. Only after they watched him hand over the recorded evidence and formally surrender did they withdraw.
Just as Luca was about to leave the hospital, a young nurse hurried over.
"Excuse me... are you Mr. Hale?"
She lowered her head the moment she spoke, her ears turning bright red.
It wasn’t entirely her fault.
Luca’s appearance alone attracted attention wherever he went. Combined with the calm confidence he carried, he looked exactly like the cold, impossibly handsome CEOs she secretly read about in romance novels after her night shifts.
"That’s me." Luca smiled politely. "Is something wrong?"
"The patient in Ward Five would like to speak with you."
Ward Five.
That was where Quincy’s mother was staying.
The nurse couldn’t help stealing another glance at his face before quickly looking away.
’He’s even more handsome up close...’
She almost wanted to freeze the moment in her memory.
Even if nothing could ever happen between them, seeing someone like him once in her life already felt worthwhile.
Completely unaware of the young nurse’s wandering thoughts, Luca walked toward Ward Five.
Justina Farce quietly followed behind him. As soon as they entered the room, she pulled over a chair without needing to be asked.
Luca sat beside the hospital bed.
Quincy’s mother smiled weakly.
"Mr. Hale... do you think Quincy will ever come home?"
Her voice was filled with worry no mother could hide.
"Quincy just went overseas to continue his studies. He isn’t—"
She slowly shook her head before he could finish.
"You don’t have to comfort me."
A faint smile appeared on her tired face.
"I know my son."
The large sum of money that had suddenly appeared to pay for her surgery had already made her suspicious. Then, almost immediately afterward, Quincy announced that he was leaving the country.
It wasn’t difficult for a mother to put those pieces together.
Parents often understood their children far better than anyone else.
After a brief silence, she lowered her eyes.
"Mr. Hale... I’m sorry."
She didn’t know exactly what Quincy had done.
But she had seen the fear in her son’s eyes whenever he looked at Luca.
She knew these two were not friends.
That alone told her enough.
Luca remained silent for a moment.
The apology wasn’t hers to make.
She wasn’t Quincy.
Nor was he Daisy, the person who had truly lost everything.
Rather than respond, he gently changed the subject.
The two chatted for several more minutes about ordinary things before Luca finally found an excuse to leave.
...
Over the next several days, Luca spent nearly all of his time with Sophie Kennedy’s family, his own parents, and little Daisy.
They visited parks, museums, shopping districts, and every interesting corner of Ashford they could think of.
For Daisy, who had been trapped in grief since losing her parents, the new scenery gradually brought tiny smiles back to her face.
They weren’t many.
But they were enough.
Two days before everyone was scheduled to leave for San Fierro, Father Hale officially resigned from his longtime security job.
He walked out of the company carrying nothing more than a cardboard box and an enormous smile.
...
On their final morning in Ashford, Luca dragged a half-asleep Sophie out of bed shortly after sunrise.
"Luca..." she groaned, burying her face in the pillow. "Are you a Taurus?"
She glared at him with sleepy eyes.
"You kept me awake half the night, and now you’re waking me up again this early?"
She wasn’t unwilling to be intimate with him.
But surely there had to be limits.
For days now, Luca had treated romance like a full-time job.
He worked regular hours.
He worked overtime.
He never seemed to take weekends off.
Even programmers weren’t exploited this badly.
Luca scratched his nose awkwardly.
His eyes unintentionally drifted to the faint red marks decorating her pale neck.
’...I may have overdone it.’
Still, that wasn’t why he’d woken her.
"Sophie."
He gently patted her shoulder.
"I made an appointment with Rosa yesterday. We’re meeting her at nine to look at a villa."
She blinked.
"You woke me up... just for that?"
Realization slowly spread across her face.
Her cheeks instantly turned crimson.
She had completely misunderstood him.
Only moments earlier she’d been mentally preparing herself for another exhausting morning.
Luca folded his arms and raised an eyebrow.
"What else were you thinking?"
Then, with a teasing grin, he covered his mouth dramatically.
"Wait... were you actually hoping for something?"
"I wasn’t!"
Sophie immediately denied it.
She sat upright so quickly that the blanket slipped down, revealing her smooth shoulders.
She reached for her clothes, then noticed Luca was still standing there watching.
Instead of panicking like she once would have, she simply rolled her eyes.
"Are you leaving or not?"
"No."
"...Fine."
Her face remained warm as she calmly got dressed in front of him.
They had been together long enough that this kind of thing no longer embarrassed her the way it used to.
There was still a little shyness.
But it was manageable.
’If he wants to look, then let him look.’
’It’s not like it’ll hurt him.’
...
After breakfast, the two walked a short distance before stopping in front of another villa.
Compared with Luca’s enormous Villa No. 1, this house was slightly smaller, but it was still luxurious by any standard.
More importantly, only a narrow footpath separated the two properties.
That was the real reason Luca had chosen it.
Standing outside was Rosa Shannon.
The moment she spotted them, her entire face lit up.
Luca had left an unforgettable impression on her.
Even now, whenever she accompanied clients through the neighborhood, she’d unconsciously glance toward Villa No. 1, hoping to catch a glimpse of him.
She had chatted with his mom several times and learned that Luca spent most of his time in San Fierro rather than in Ashford.
She had secretly regretted missing so many opportunities to see him.
Then yesterday, out of nowhere, Luca personally contacted her and asked her to wait here.
After hearing the news, her manager immediately told her not to report to the office and to remain at Villa No. 2 until he arrived.
Now, watching Luca walk over beside such an incredibly beautiful young woman, Rosa immediately understood.
’So... this must be the future Mrs. Hale.’
