Infinite Nightmares

Chapter 184: The Solution

Atop the altar, Zhang Wenda fearlessly pointed a single finger at the Moon God, Ishchel. The moment he saw her calm gaze meet his, he knew he had guessed correctly.

The Mayan Gods were not at all what one traditionally thought of as gods. They were stronger than humans, yes, but not so powerful they could ignore everything.

They could think. They had weaknesses. If one of them fell into the hands of the Big Circle, they might well meet the same fate as the Angel Engine.

As if Zhang Wenda’s words had finally angered Ishchel, the surrounding moonlight instantly intensified, shining so brightly that the two men could barely keep their eyes open.

"Outsider, our power is not for a mere mortal like you to question! Now, leave my altar!"

Hearing the anger in her voice, yet seeing she made no move against him, Zhang Wenda smiled.

"Trying to hide? You Mayan Gods don’t want to get mixed up in our fight? A pity you’ve forgotten one thing! You’re already involved."

Zhang Wenda pulled down his zipper, revealing the dagger embedded in his chest. "Take a look! Whose property is this? You may want to hide, but some gods couldn’t care less!"

Ishchel stared at the dagger buried in Zhang Wenda’s chest, her face filled with rage. "Kopan..."

"That’s right, him. The very same unpredictable Kopan your High Priest warned you about!"

Zhang Wenda was bluffing, borrowing the might of the Third Line. Though he had only just joined Bureau 507, Ishchel didn’t have to know that. Once he realized what the Mayan Gods feared, Zhang Wenda knew exactly how to deal with her.

The more she wanted to stay out of it, the more he had to drag her into it.

Of course, getting her to fight Tang Xingxiong was out of the question. So, he feigned a compromise. "I know you don’t want to get involved, and I’m not asking you to help me fight the Big Circle. How about this? You help me get rid of this thing, and you can just pretend you never saw anything else."

Although Ishchel’s expression was one of utter dissatisfaction, she knew that in the end, she would have to be the one to clean up Kopan’s mess.

With a gentle wave of her silver right hand, the pure white moonlight on the surrounding lunar soil slowly rose, weaving together as it flowed toward Zhang Wenda’s chest.

The tangible moonlight, like gentle streams of water, silently and effortlessly washed the dagger out from Zhang Wenda’s chest. Under its glow, the chilling wound healed rapidly.

Astonished, Zhang Wenda touched his chest with a rabbit-gloved hand and found that the persistent trouble that had tormented him was finally gone.

’Although these Mayan Gods aren’t as powerful as I imagined and just want to avoid trouble,’ he thought, ’they’ve clearly got a few tricks up their sleeves.’

"Leave my altar, outsider! I will say it again: your affairs have nothing to do with us! I’m giving you two days to return to your godless world! Otherwise, I will erase all of you!"

After delivering this harsh ultimatum, the Moon God vanished completely, as if determined to maintain her neutrality to the very end. Before she left, she shot a vicious glare at Ahava for bringing this trouble to her doorstep.

With a THUD, Ahava dropped to his knees, his face a mask of despair. "It’s over, it’s all over! Ishchel is going to hate me! I can’t believe I brought a man who would threaten her all the way to the moon."

"Sorry, we’ll have to deal with your problems later. I have to go save them."

Having finally resolved his immediate problem, Zhang Wenda stuffed all the sparks from the altar that represented his soul into his rabbit suit. Then, his body transformed into a bolt of lightning, and he shot off in the direction the others had gone.

Now free from his biggest worry, Zhang Wenda, who was already incredibly fast, pushed his speed to its absolute limit by fully activating his Red Core.

As he sprinted, he kicked up a plume of lunar dust so high that the people of the Maya Republic below could clearly see a thin line gradually etching its way across the moon’s surface.

After sprinting across the lunar surface for a short time, Zhang Wenda suddenly spotted the black crows in the sky. He wasn’t far now.

As he rapidly closed the distance, he saw Hu Maomao with her hands raised high, desperately holding on by mind-controlling a fraction of the crows. Beside her, Song Jianguo’s Black Cat had been nearly punctured and deflated. The situation was critical.

A sharp scythe shot out from his rabbit-gloved hand. Zhang Wenda then took out that vial of death, held it in his mouth, and coated the blade. He became a cold, gleaming afterimage as he plunged into the flock of crows and began a massacre.

Every crow Zhang Wenda struck stiffened instantly and fell. For a moment, it was as if a black rain had started to fall around him, the bodies of the dead crows dropping like raindrops.

The next second, Zhang Wenda reached the center of the swarm, planting himself beside Song Jianguo and Hu Maomao. "Don’t be afraid! I’m here to save you!"

Hu Maomao stared at Zhang Wenda in shock. "What are you doing?"

"I came back to save you!" Zhang Wenda declared, his eyes fixed firmly on the now-thinned flock of black crows.

"The trouble with Kopan is dealt with?"

"Completely and totally solved!" Zhang Wenda stated firmly.

Hearing this, Hu Maomao flew straight down and smacked Zhang Wenda across the back of the head. "You think you’re invincible just because you solved one problem?" she demanded furiously. "You dealt with the Kopan mess, but you’re still no match for Tang Xingxiong! You ran back in here just to get yourself killed!"

After her outburst, a frantic Hu Maomao looked to the sky. "Xingxiong! Do we really have to do this? Do you have to drag the younger generation into our past? You already killed Biaozi, wasn’t that enough?"

"Don’t you dare mention him to me!" Tang Xingxiong’s voice boomed, filled with rage.

Immediately after, Tang Xingxiong’s humanoid form materialized in the air. She roared at Hu Maomao, "Stop living in the past! We can’t go back! We can never, ever go back!"

"Now, we are enemies! Mortal enemies who will fight to the death, do you understand, Maomao? It’s either you or me. There is no other choice!"

As she spoke, a Double Fish Jade Pendant was tossed high into the air. As the Jade Pendant fell back into her palm, the black crows in the sky began to multiply rapidly. In just over ten seconds, the ranks of crows that Zhang Wenda had just culled were completely restored.

As the crows blotted out the sky, something began to writhe and squirm within the encroaching darkness. The situation seemed hopeless.

"Kid, I was almost disappointed you got away. I didn’t expect you to come back just to die. You didn’t inherit any of your uncle’s cunning, did you?"

"Is that so? I wouldn’t be too sure about that."

But faced with this turn of events, Zhang Wenda showed no sign of despair. Staring intently at the crows above, he spoke. "Auntie, I didn’t come here to die! I told you before, if I said I had a way to deal with her, then I have a way!"

With that, as everyone watched, Zhang Wenda pulled something from his suit. It was none other than Kopan’s Sacrificial Knife, the very one just pulled from his chest.

Then, still under their stunned gazes, Zhang Wenda violently plunged the Sacrificial Knife right back into his own chest.

But his mindset this time was completely different from the last. "Kopan! Get up and get to work!"
